View Full Details of Whittington House Nursing HomeI find that Wittington Care Home is very warm and cosy, like walking into your own home every one, from carers, nurses, receptionists, cleaners, chefs, crafters, volunteers, maintenance, gardeners, and hairdressers, are all extremely helpful, friendly and approachable. I would recommend people I know to go there.
The whole team at Whittington House made my beloved Nan's last years very special. She was looked after wonderfully in every way. I felt at ease as soon as she moved in and that's down to the amazing staff. She was cared for mentally, medically, physically and most importantly emotionally. I would like to say a special thank you to Monika and Sarah as you were her favourite even with the dementia she knew you both and loved spending time with you.
Comfortable room. Room plus bathroom modern . Security re entry and exit affective . Staff reaction to the fire alarm was poor. Food quality varied Staff friendly
Staff always keep me updated on my friend's progress or any medical reviews. She is happy in the home and likes most of the staff. Food sometimes a problem as she has difficulty in chewing, and sometimes there isn't a suitable alternative. For example; last visit I asked if she could have scrambled eggs but not available as ? No staff to cook.
Mum has been in the care of Whittington House since April 2025. As I live in North Yorkshire I have great reassurance that mum is being well cared for and is happy. The activity schedule is put together thoughtfully and mum often attends and enjoys the social aspect of the care delivered. The weekly menu is varied, meals and cakes all freshly prepared on the premises which mum says are always delicious. From the beginning the carers have been attentive, smiling, helpful and so very kind. As a daughter I am kept informed of any changes to mums condition, changes to medication and am given regular updates. Communication is first class. Whittington House has been a godsend to mum and her family. It is excellent, and I thank everyone.
My Mum has been a resident at Whittington House for 6 months now and has settled in well, with the help of the kind, caring staff. We are generally very happy with Mum's care and also with the impressive range of meals that are on offer every day, but there are just a couple of niggling things that I would like to mention. The website for Whittington is very striking and we were impressed with the furnishings however these are very sad and aged and the general maintenance is poor, dusty air vents, broken furniture, dingy paintwork in places and most annoying, curtains hanging off rails and even a cornflake and old tape on the ceiling of the day room which has been there for at least as long as Mum has been a resident. Carers can often be found in the Day Room sitting amongst residents, focused on their phones instead of making conversation and encouraging the residents to chat. I would ideally like to see more investment in the Home considering the above average monthly costs
Mum has been a full time resident at Whittington House for over a year having previously attended several times for respite care. She is very settled and happy there. Her room is good with a huge window looking onto the surrounding trees which she likes. The staff are always happy to talk and take time with her. I always feel welcome when visiting and have joined in with activities. It is lovely to know that she is well looked after and has plenty of company and activities to pass the days. The office staff are very helpful and efficient too.
I always receive a warm welcome when I visit my wife and all the carers know my name. All the staff do a good job. They keep me informed about my wife's wellbeing. I have no complaints or suggestions for improvement. Car parking can be an isssue at times as can gaining access to the building at weekends.
On admission we informed the staff present of mum's needs, but we have found that these are not always regularly carried out. We also feel that the room could be vacuumed more regularly. We have found all the staff very welcoming and caring.
My wife who is resident and suffers from advanced Alzheimer's (she's non mobile and non verbal) was admitted to Whittington House Cheltenham in May 2024. Whereas I'm somewhat resigned to her condition being unlikely to improve radically, I have been really encouraged by her response to the excellent care she has received: she invariably greets staff and fellow residents with a smile and some staff appear to recognise some of the facial expressions she uses to communicate. I am able on a daily basis to take her to her room where I can try various means of eliciting responses/ recognition from her. Eg music (she was a professional musician), photos and familiar scenes/ images from her past. She is always clean and usually dressed appropriately. She appears to eat very well and any issues I've had are invariably answered/ dealt with promptly. All in all our joint experience at Whittington has been of a high standard.
Always very communicative, Always let us know what's going on. Lovely care home and staff. Very reassuring to know mum is safe and well. We can visit when we like and are always very warmly welcomed by the member of staff on reception.
The environment is very pleasant, with lounge areas and dining rooms being smart for a care home. One has confidence in the staff who seem efficient, caring and who work as a team. My husband is bed-bound, and he is checked regularly. The food is good and varied. I visit almost daily, but I can be confident that my husband is in safe hands if I go away for a few days.
Whilst the staff are very pleasant the care is extremely variable at times, the room is not always clean and the cost each year increases by a large percentage leaving us with excessive monthly care bills. Would not recommend.
I was here for 2 weeks to recover after a hip replacement op, and learning ti walk again. All the staff were very patient, cheerful and encouraging. The food was in abundance beautifully presented and appetising. My room was light and bright with a wet room ensuite. I chose this place as my neighbour recommended it to me as she was here 2 years prior after the same hip replacement and I remember visiting her at the time.
Excellent care from all staff. The home and the food were all good. Only slight criticism is that we didn't always receive updated information , but this is probably due to not being able to access relatives information online system as it was being shut down prior to changing systems.
Whittington House is amazing and I can't recommend enough! They have an holistic and person-centred approach towards their residents and I've noticed a real change in my mother's physical and mental health since arriving at Whittington. We have had hiccups or teething problems if you will, however, the staff are all willing to listen and work with us as a family to resolve any issues. The manager is really lovely and very approachable, she genuinely listens to your concerns and quite clearly does her job with a passion. The nurses and care staff work in a very high standard and the food is very nutritional as my mother is finally putting on weight. The admin team and reception are only too happy to help with anything that might arise. I work in a nursing home myself and I genuinely can't recommend this nursing home enough. Thank you Whittington House and thank you to each and every person who works in the home.
All residents' water should be changed daily, however, this isn't the case as on most occasions when we visit it is at least one or two days old on the sticker - or the sticker has been removed. We have complained on numerous occasions but unfortunately, the situation isn't resolved.
I am constantly and consistently impressed with the offer at Whittington House. My relative has been here for about a year now and I wasn't sure how well they would settle having been incredibly independent before becoming resident. I didn't need to worry. Everything from the transition in to accommodating personal items, including some furniture and a lovely room that was entirely appropriate to the current and changing needs. Accommodating of all visitors, made to feel welcome in person or if contacting over the phone. I feel that concerns or comments are taken very seriously and the care by the named nurse for my relative is very comforting. The amount and variety of activities on offer is incredible and I feel that residents are actively encouraged and supported to engage.
My mum decided she could no longer look after herself at home, ordering shopping and cooking/preparing meals had started to overwhelm her. We looked at a number of homes within the area, closer to her family. Whittington House is purpose-built, with good-sized rooms, each having its own individual character and view. Each floor, there are 4, has its own lounge and restaurant area, although residents if they are able, can use any floor. There is a cinema room, and several different lounges, with activities each day for the residents to participate in. It did take Mum a while to settle in, just getting used to new surroundings having been in her own flat for over 15 years. 6 months in Whittington House she is in her words 'very happy' and is delighted someone else now does the shopping and cooking. She is able to have a varied menu each day and can choose from 3 options for each meal. I now have my mum-daughter relationship back where I can visit her for coffee and a meal.
Dad was at Whittington House for the last two years of his life and received very good care. The home is well-managed and has a great team of conscientious, caring staff who make it a happy place to be. Dad had Alzheimer’s and was at constant risk of falling and so needed one-to-one care during the daycare to keep him safe. He had some excellent carers who went above and beyond to look after Dad’s health and wellbeing, taking a genuine interest in him and making a real effort to entertain him with things that he enjoyed. He was always treated with dignity and respect and we could relax knowing that he was in good hands. The building is a pleasant, clean and fresh environment. It has light and spacious rooms with big windows overlooking the woods, and the simple layout and wide corridors are easy for an older person to navigate. Big thanks to the Whittington team for everything.
