View Full Details of Westbourne Care HomeAs my mum has been at Westbourne for over 4 years this is my second review. My mum has always been and still is really happy there. Westbourne is like one big happy family with a great atmosphere, the staff are really friendly, happy, work hard and always willing to have a chat. They care for the residents with dignity and compassion. Any issues I have with my mum are dealt with promptly. All the meals are good with plenty of variety and choice. The activities lady is fantastic with all the residents. There is always lots of different activities going on and the residents and staff have so much fun. The staff love dressing up for different events, which the residents really enjoy. In the summer they went on trips to Weston super mare, a wildlife park and various others. I would not hesitate in recommending this care home for anyone looking for a place for their loved one.
My mother was very happy at Westbourne, and did not want to leave. In the 18 months she was there, she was well looked after by the staff who did their best to look after her in difficult circumstances.
We have always found Westbourne very caring of our family member. The staff are always polite and very helpful. Our family member is always clean, as is her room, and there is always a calm atmosphere in the home. The activities are just what our family member likes.
My Dad is cared for at Westbourne. He is happy and settled and he gets on well with the carers. They show him genuine care and kindness and help to accommodate his individual needs. I would recommend Westbourne to any family.
Very happy with the care given to my mother over the last 12 months. We're always very warmly welcomed and the staff are very understanding and informative. I very much feel all our needs are met but also that you're happy to listen to us if needed.
We removed Mum from Westbourne at the end of October 2025 due to being unhappy with the care she was receiving. For the 18months or so that Mum was a resident, there seemed to be problem after problem. Initially, furniture was dumped not far from Mum's window & we had to nag to get it removed. She was never properly assessed for a DoLS (deprivation of liberty safeguard) despite my constant request, as I knew Mum didn't have 'full capacity'. Mum's personal care was pretty shocking. I constantly found dirty underwear in her drawers. Her toenails were left to grow so long, that Mum struggled to get shoes on. Staff turnover was horrendous. The new manageress lasted five weeks in the summer! Communication was awful. The phone would ring & ring and emails quite often unanswered - even at head office level. The home even had the audacity to report me to the authorities saying I removed Mum against her will! We have POA & have always had Mum's best interest at heart.
I wanted to go into respite care to give my husband a break from being my full time carer. I wasn't sure where I should go or what I should do. Through the council I was placed at Westbourne Care Home. I can only say positive things bout Westbourne Care. They have made me feel really comfortable and at ease. They have helped me with washing, dressing, getting in and out of bed. Also having nice meals. All of the staff have been really friendly and helpful. Would not hesitate to go back.
Mum is looked after very well and as no issues. She is very happy.
Very friendly, clean, with experience staff. Well run facility.
We were initially really worried about Mum going into residential care. At 90 years old, and having lived with us as part of our family for the last decade on our smallholding, we knew this would be a very hard move for us all. Mum had grown up on a farm and lived in the countryside all of her life but we could no longer cope with the lack of mobility that Mum was faced with and her inability to move without significant equipment and the support of two carers. Mum was with Westbourne for 5 months, and whilst her decline was sad to see due to many illnesses including blood cancer, we could never fault the care or compassion shown by the staff at Westbourne - it was first class. During the last couple of weeks, when Mum was moved to end of life, the support was outstanding and the staff made what was an incredibly hard time far easier to deal with due to their kindness, attention and dignity. I will never forget the commitment and love shown by the staff to Mum.
Very well-run care home. Professional, very clean. My mother is very happy to be well looked after all things considered after suffering a stroke in 2023. Friendly family-orientated home.
In a word, brilliant. The staff are kind, caring, knowledgeable and always available. In my professional capacity, I visit a lot of care homes to ensure quality, so recognise excellence - that's apparent at Westbourne. I didn't think I would ever need to be a "customer", but so very glad that I know Mum is safe and well cared for at Westbourne. Well done to everyone - I hope you soon reach Outstanding - you all deserve it!
Mum has been a resident at Westbourne for nearly three years now and I couldn’t ask for a nicer care home to look after her. It is a very special place, the staff are always welcoming and it gives me great peace of mind knowing she is safe, seeing that I live a distance away so am not able to visit as often as I would like. Mum is 96 and has Alzheimer’s so her moods are a bit up and down but all the staff are very kind and caring with her. She enjoys going for the occasional trip out, especially for fish and chips at the pub! It’s always good to see the photos of her and she genuinely looks happy and always neat and tidy. Thank you everyone at Westbourne.
I have nothing but praise and gratitude! Wonderful, patient and caring staff. It feels like a home, with an air of cheeriness and positivity - bright décor, pictures, photos and residents’ artwork on the walls. Mum spent her last 18 months thereafter her Alzheimer’s made it impossible for her to live independently. During that time several of the staff members obtained further qualifications, particularly in the area of treatment of dementia. Continued learning seems to be encouraged and celebrated. Mum was very happy at Westbourne. Always plenty of activities; music, dancing, art, animal visits and trips out. Mum felt pampered and had her hair and her nails done regularly. The food was varied, nutritious and interesting and mum was encouraged to eat and stay hydrated, even when she didn’t really want to. I’m so pleased we found Westbourne. It was definitely the right place for mum and we never once felt we’d made the wrong decision. I wholeheartedly give it a five-star review!
My cousin moved into Westbourne in July 2023. The staff all made him feel very welcome. He is very happy with his room. It is always clean and bright around the home and the staff are very caring and kind. The staff are always friendly, welcoming and available to chat to. We are very happy with the care provided here.
My husband and I are over the moon with my mum's care and the life she now leads at Westbourne Care Home. All our lives have changed dramatically since we found her a place there. It is the most exceptionally caring and loving family environment that you could ever hope for and this is down to the brilliant management and all the amazing staff that work there. It is difficult to put into words how highly we regard every aspect of life at Westbourne and how much it means to me that mum finds such affection, comfort and happiness there.
We recently lost our mum after 18 months, staying with her 'new family' at Westbourne. During that time she was so happy and the care and support from all the staff were just amazing. We felt the inevitable feelings of guilt when she first went into care but these feelings soon disappeared when we saw how happy she was - and her health improved greatly during that time. She was able to enjoy numerous activities and trips out with staff and other residents - and loved to get her hair and nails done. The genuine support from the staff in mum's final few weeks was incredible and I can't thank them enough - both for the support to mum and to me personally.
My mother has been living at Westbourne for over two years with Alzheimer’s. She needs help with every aspect of care. She can no longer talk, walk or feed herself. The wonderful staff at Westbourne always give her love, care and attention and they give us, her family, support and any advice we may need. If we ever have any concerns they quickly respond. As well as the special love they give to the residents they are committed to continually improving their knowledge and expertise, including care for people with dementia with all the complexity that brings; and it shows in the quality of care they provide. My review certainly wouldn’t be complete if I didn’t mention my heartfelt thanks to the dedicated staff who prepared the delicious and nutritious meals, and kept everything clean, hygienic and in good working order. It is all so very much appreciated. Westbourne truly is a caring and loving family.
Mum has been resident for 7 months now and refers to The Westbourne as 'home'. She is happy, and content and enjoys the meals! The staff and management are friendly, helpful, caring and conscientious without exception. There are frequent activities, which residents may join in with if they choose and outings to local amenities, such as the nearby country park. Overall, myself and all the family are very happy with the care and attention Mum receives and we are confident that she is being properly cared for at all times.
