My wife was admitted in March 2024 for end of life care and although she was bedbound all staff were very kind and supportive both to her and myself. It helped us get through a very traumatic time. A friend of mine is also currently at Calway House and is always happy, well cared for and settled. All staff seem genuinely fond of her and spend time with her. I always find the atmosphere calm and caring.
My stepmum went into Calway House, Spruce, in January 2023 as she could no longer care for herself, she had beginnings of dementia and her mobility was poor. The staff were very caring and mum made lots of friends, everyone seems to know her. Earlier this month, due to her extremely poor mobility and progressing dementia, she had a fall and fractured her knee ending up in a plaster cast. She spent 5 days in hospital which accelerated her dementia/confusion however she had a lovely welcome back to Calway House by all the staff, although she is now in Nursing Care. She has a lovely room overlooking the garden, and although it is taking her time to get used to a different room, the care has been wonderful. We know she is safe and well looked after in their care. Rooms and premises are always clean and tidy. We are kept up to date if any problems arise or changes in medication or her care.
Very happy with the care mum is receiving at Calway House. Mum has settled in well. The staff are very caring towards mum, always kind and patient. We are welcomed when we visit and staff happy to answer any questions or discuss any issues. The home is always clean and well maintained. The outdoor space is a real bonus and mum loves sitting in the garden. They are very receptive to suggestions. I recently commented to the manager that the main door was difficult to navigate with mum in her wheelchair due to a slightly raised threshold. The manager came to look at it with me and said she would request an opinion from their maintenance team. Within about 4 weeks, the threshold now has a small ramp on it which makes wheeling the wheel chair over so much easier and more comfortable for mum. Thank you for listening and taking action.
My first experience of Calway House was for my father in 2020. He was elderly and admitted after a hospital stay. He recovered so well at Calway that he was able to transfer to residential. He died in 2020 - only of old age. His care at Calway was outstanding. Currently, my Aunt is in Calway House. She was very ill upon arrival and was only expected to live for two months. Her recovery has been dramatic. This is due to the care and kindness of all the staff. We as a family cannot thank everyone enough.
Perceptive & supportive response from very first enquiry for 2 older people for whom managing daily life at home, one caring for the other, had become too challenging. Refreshing 'want to help' attitude in a broader overstretched social care environment. More than once have felt relief that what I thought might present a hurdle has felt so easy. Thorough assessment, efficient admission processes, clear communication throughout. Felt able to trust the obvious skill of nursing, and activities staff from day one. Warm and welcoming ethos seen from staff in all roles. More commendable in light of how demanding this work is, and the challenges presented during settling in period. Thoughtfulness demonstrated in so many ways. Thank you
My mother has been a resident at Calway House since November 2022 and as a family we have been extremely happy with the care she receives. All staff really do an impeccable job of looking after her; understanding her complex needs, advocating for her, looking after her, keeping her safe and happy. We always feel welcome when we visit and included in her care. It was not an easy decision to accept that mum needed to move into full time care but we genuinely could not have asked for a better care home for her, and on top of that knowing that my dad can still feel such an integral part of her life despite not living with her. We are incredibly grateful for the support we have received and every staff member is brilliant. I would also mention that the care home manager clearly cares a great deal about her residents.
Exactly the care we wanted showing kindness and compassion
My mother has been staying at Calway House having respite care after a stay in hospital. She had heard good reports from friends in her church about Calway House and so we chose this setting. On her release from hospital, she was really quite unwell and had lost a considerable amount of weight. She was assessed comprehensively by the care home in the hospital so her care could be tailored to her needs on arrival. I have visited her 2-3 times a week during her time at Calway and have always been impressed by the welcome from all staff members and the care of residents I have seen. All staff seem to do a variety of jobs and just work together to make sure things are done, this includes admin and management who interact and mix with residents. The food is a good standard and always presented well, with residents being encouraged to eat together as a shared experience. Twelve weeks after leaving the hospital my mum is now well enough to try moving home.
December 2023 both my parents came into your care as they could no longer live independently! Dad was transferred to the dementia unit in April 2024, whick was more catering for him. Mum and dad met up most meal times which was lovely. All care staff friendly and helpful. Mum passed away in July 2024 and dad January 2025. My brother and I have been very happy with the care given. Regular updates monthly and call if any problems, e.g falls, changes of medication. Rooms always clean and tidy and so were the premises.
I helped settled my dad into Calway House and then returned to my home in Australia. It has been lovely to return this Christmas and see how settled he is. Even though his dementia continues to advance and he can no longer communicate clearly, it is obvious that he is happy, content and settled in Calway. The carers and staff are all positive, helpful and very supportive of both him and my mum, who visits everyday. Everything is clean, he is well looked after and above all safe and his smile is still as lovely as ever! My thanks to everyone involved in his care.
I was anxious to come here, and it proved to be as good as you'd expected. The staff are very good, kind and considerate. The food is excellent and I enjoy the entertainment. I am very happy here.
I cannot fault the kindness, thoughtfulness, and quality of care that my wife (and me!) experienced during the time she was at Calway. It was a tearful departure!
From the very first meeting and welcoming from the manager, we have been impressed and happy in the knowledge that Dad is safe and well cared for at Calway House. The staff and communication are excellent and the home is always clean. We would have no hesitation in recommending Calway to others.
My father was taken into Calway after a fall on 1st December 2023. Calway have been fantastic, kind, thoughtful, accommodating and extremely helpful. My mum went into Calway and I've had no worries having my dad now live there. I wouldn't want him anywhere else. He's looked after extremely well and he's very happy there and settled in brilliantly, couldn't have wished for a smoother transition from home to a care home environment.
Was excellent caring for my husband. The building is bright and airy and feels active. The staff are all unfailingly kind, patient and caring. The food is good and there are plenty of activities. I would recommend Calway House to anyone and feel very grateful for their care.
My sister lived at Calway House from 2015 until 2023. All the staff there were very kind to her and in the last years took care of her every need. As the nearest family member, I was welcomed to Calway House at any time. The staff are very professional and they are warm, friendly and engaged with their work.
The love and care my mother has received over the past five years has been outstanding. The staff are kind and supportive, especially during the end of life care. I know my mum was very happy and considered this her home.
There are no words to express our gratitude to all the staff at Calway House for looking after our uncle, so much love and care they gave to him. We will always be grateful to them all and for looking after the family until his passing.
Dad went into Calway House Care Home in December 2021 with a broken pelvis. The colleagues there helped Dad through his injury and over the months enabled his rehabilitation. He lived a really content life and when old age finally came for Dad, the staff in Calway were incredible. Rather than have him go into a faceless, unpleasant hospital, they nursed him in his own room. The care and love they had for Dad was incredible. We couldn’t have found a better place for Dad for his last eighteen months of life and we honestly can’t find the words to thank the staff for the care and dignity they showed Dad in the days leading to his passing.
My mother has been a resident at Calway House Care Home since December 2022. She is settled, safe and happy. The care staff are amazing, kind, sensitive and caring but also have fun with Mum! The whole team, from management to the housekeeper, are all very supportive to the family and care plans are updated with the family every month. The care home endorses a homely environment and is very aware of individual needs. I have been able to put Mum's own furniture in her room which makes it very homely and familiar for her. I cannot thank Calway House enough.
