View Full Details of Torrwood Care CentreMy husband has recently passed away after living in Torrwood since October 2024. The care he received particularly at the last week of his life was very good. However I feel a lack of activities and stimulation contributed to his deterioration! The music also was reduced to one day and by this time of sitting doing nothing attributed to his decline. On visiting regularly it was clearly evident that there were staff shortages and the care standards had dropped. Also outings and even garden activities didn't happen. I wouldn't recommend this carehome because of the lack of stimulation and the shortage of specialist nursing type chairs for end of life was evident with residents spending all day in bed! I purchased a chair for my husband for the last few weeks of his life otherwise he would have been in bed for the majority of the time he had left! Also night checks are 2 hourly which is concerning when someone is at the end of life. I stayed with my husband all night so he would not be left on his own to die! Some residents do not have family so care staff should be available but with lack of staff this is not happening. I have been a support leader before I retired and can say I gave 100% care to ensure residents had the care they deserved.
My mother, who is 97 and has dementia, was moved to Torrwood Care in April 2025. I have nothing but praise for this lovely place. The staff are amazing and the manager is a credit to the place, always so helpful and friendly. Mum has significantly improved since being there, her room is lovely, and her care is exceptional. I cannot thank them enough.
I absolutely love being a resident at Torrwood Care Centre, the staff have made me so happy, they are always so professional, they helped me settle in, feel at home, and always have a smile and we laugh together, nothing is too much for them, I am blessed to be here, and to know I am in safe and caring hands, in a beautiful setting, I couldn't wish for more.
Facilities were clean. Staff were professional and respectful. Meals were good. Medical care was excellent.
We were very pleased with the overall level of friendliness and caring displayed by all the staff.
My mother has been in Torrwood for respite care. I have been very impressed with the care she has received to date and we are considering making this a permanent move.
The care home gives an intimate feeling with a relaxed atmosphere. Staff are kindly, considerate, caring and are willing to spend time with relatives. Accommodation is comfortable with opportunities for residents to personalise their rooms. The food is excellent, as is the diet with a wide choice of menus. Medical care is of a very high standard with access to district nurses and doctors as required.
The job you do caring for people with dementia is extremely difficult but it is always performed with great professionalism and, as soon as one member of staff comes into personal contact with my wife with enormous kindness and gentleness. Thank you so much. This is not always easy as my wife was brought up as a single child to be very independent - so this continues now. She always thinks 'I can do it myself!'. So I am grateful and pleased that over the last months, her care plan has been revised so that a member of staff helps her to bed and then helps her wash and dress each morning. This is very good as her dementia has increased. I have no complaints whatsoever and she accepts it.
Excellent communication re updates to our father's evolving health condition. Staff are always friendly and pleasant when visiting and happy to take time to share updates. The senior nurses whom I have dealt with have been exemplary.
Following the sad death of a good friend, I feel it important to write and express my gratitude to all of the staff at Torrwood for the professional, kind, and sympathetic way in which he was cared for during his time as a resident in this excellent home. The facilities are clean, well-maintained, warm, and comfortable and I know he was very content to be living there. Thank you to all of the staff for your professionalism, kindness, and hard work and for providing such an essential service to those who need your help so much.
The home was infected by Norovirus. Despite the extra needs of all the residents in the section where my mother lives, no one succumbed to the disease, though my Mum, was considered to be on end-of-life care. I was called in on 5th December with her grandchildren. She was placed on a ripple mattress on 6th December because she was not changing position at all, lying in bed and not stirring much. Incontinent. I could get her to drink sporadically using a straw but no food. While in bed the care staff were turning her every 4 hours. This was a huge commitment amongst caring for the other residents and so much better for Mum than her going to the hospital. On the 11th of December, she had some custard. By the 15th she was eating small amounts of soft food. And making more sense. On 18th December she had some roast lamb and vegetables. Thanks to the care from all the staff, organised by the senior carers, my Mum is alive and even walking a little!
Overall there is excellent care provided, can't fault any of the team. Rooms could be updated; painting, carpets, windows have been broken for some time, but I believe it's being sorted. A few extra staff might help at busy times.
A very caring environment with residents at the centre of everything and staff working hard to help make each day the residents' best possible. There is a limit to the quality of life that Mum can achieve because of her dementia but within those limits, she is as happy as she could be.
All staff give exceptional care and I feel that my mother is safe and well cared for. Very happy with the care the staff give and the communication we receive. Always welcoming and open for visits. I feel they know my mother very well.
The staff here are efficient but also combine dedication in providing loving care for all their residents. The building is kept clean and tidy. The food is good and wholesome. Visitors are made welcome.
Our experience for Mum has been poor so far. We feel Mum is often treated as if she has dementia. The bells seem to ring for a long time before being answered. Some of Mum's items have lost, including her false teeth. Consistency of staff, lots of agency and overall poor management of the home has been our impression.
For my dear husband of 47 years to have spent his last weeks at Torrwood, South Horrington made our family's grief more bearable. From the manager down to nursing staff, carers, admin staff, cleaners, kitchen staff, laundry staff - every one without exception looked after him so well and were so supportive to me and my family. Thanks to you all.
From initial viewing to Mum becoming a resident, everything has been excellent. Home from home. Amazing atmosphere!
We visited my aunt a couple of times last April when we were in the area (we live in South Buckinghamshire). We were invited to Torrwood Care Centre to celebrate her 97th birthday with her family and friends on 2nd January. What a lucky lady to be a resident in such a wonderful, caring environment. Everyone is so welcoming and friendly. The care my aunt receives is total. We were provided with a large room for the birthday celebration. Having dealt with care homes for both our late mothers, my husband and I feel experienced enough to say that Torrwood is definitely one of the best!
From the moment you walk through the door at Torrwood Care Centre, you are met with a very warm welcome from every single member of staff. Everyone is so friendly, efficient, professional, caring and kind and nothing is too much trouble. Dedication from nurses and carers has also led to a huge improvement in a very serious pressure sore mum acquired in hospital. We wouldn't want mum to be anywhere else. Thank you all for caring for mum and for looking after the wider family too.
