View Full Details of The Old VicarageHaving made my first review in September 2023 as my mum began her stay at The Old Vicarage, I'm sadly making my final review as mum has now passed away. I cannot praise the staff highly enough for their dedication and compassion in mum's final weeks. What I failed to realise that this care and compassion isn't just for the resident but encompasses the whole family. I'm in total awe of these amazing people and the work they do. This isn't a job to them but a vocation. Anyone considering a care home for a loved one should have no reservations in choosing The Old Vicarge.
We are so grateful for the care and affection our mum received from the amazing team at the Old Vicarage. She lived there for the last two years of her life as her Alzheimer's worsened and she needed more and more support. From day one, we saw a high level of professionalism from themanager, and the rest of the team, but on top of good training, we saw good people who genuinely care for those living there. This care extended to us too, from helping us deal with the worry of having a parent move into a care home to ensuring we were supported (and had tea & biscuits!) as our mum reached the end of her life.
A truly superb care home with wonderful staff. The manager and her team are so attentive, caring and professional. The rooms are good and well-cleaned. Dad has dementia and he is well looked after. We are always informed on any status and kept informed of everything. The staff from all departments really do work together as a team, which is reflected in the care that all residents receive. There are a lot of activities and days out for the residents and a lovely garden to be in weather permitting.
My whole experience of the team at the Old Vicarage has been positive from the moment my mother visited them. We recently undertook a periodic review of her care and I was amazed at the detailed records and knowledge they have of every aspect of mums care. The whole team are caring, diligent and professional in all their dealings with the residents. I could not be happier.
An absolutely fantastic care home, with an excellent team of staff who run it. My first impression of The Old Vicarage team was incredibly positive when I visited them to set up respite care for my mother. I had looked at other places that day that had made my heart sink. They were professional, warm and informed. The home itself is lovely - clean, bright, lovely communal areas, and a choice of really nice rooms which meant that I could choose the one I thought was most appropriate for my mother. All of the residents I saw as I was shown around looked well cared for and relaxed. The Old Vicarage has not disappointed me. I cannot thank the team enough for their hard work, diligence and kindness - they are exceptional. This home is well-run in all aspects, from laundry and meals, to medical and care needs that are set up swiftly and delivered effectively. You can feel the care that goes into the residents here, and I would not hesitate to recommend The Old Vicarage team.
A friendly care home, all the staff went way beyond to help with my father's needs, a spotless place, excellent food choices and plenty of entertainment and days out to suit everyone. A personal touch outside his room about his past life and hobbies so a good talking point to stimulate conversation, having only stayed a month for recuperation he was able to come home but he was happy and well looked after whilst he was there and if needs be we wouldn't hesitate to go back again, thank you to everyone.
My mother has now been at the Old Vicarage since mid-June, and in that time she has received nothing but exceptional care from all the staff. Unfortunately, my mum has not been well in the last few weeks, but the care home have kept me updated and informed almost on a daily basis. My mother now receives good doctor/nursing care and is steadily improving. The staff at The Old Vicarage are all very caring and treat my mother with dignity and respect. My mother feels well looked after and "safe", which is all that can be asked. The staff have a great sense of humour and always make me welcome every time l visit. Excellent care home!
Dad spent his last few weeks at The Old Vicarage. The care that both he and we, his family, receives was outstanding. The staff were compassionate, respectful and attentive, and really did go the extra mile. They treated us and the other residents with dignity, and recognised each person as an individual, encouraging their worth. This was true of all staff - from the management to seniors, care workers activity coordinators, house keeping, kitchen staff etc. We cannot recommend The Old Vicarage highly enough.
My Dad was admitted to The Old Vicarage originally for respite, with a view to long-term care, but became unwell and received end-of-life care there. The staff from the manager to the care staff, activities coordinators and housekeeping team provided excellent care during his stay. He was treated with respect and dignity and the whole family were treated with kindness and compassion. The support we were given made it easier to cope with a very sad situation.
My Mum and Dad have both moved to The Old Vicarage Care Home as both have mobility issues and dementia, which are accelerating and making it no longer possible to care for them at home. My brother and myself did some research and we visited The Old Vicarage and other homes. The staff at Old Vicarage and our view of the care of residents in a lovely bright big home with garden, made such a great impression straightaway, and the comparison to the other homes was a sharp contrast. We arranged for an assessment which was undertaken in a compassionate way at home. A smooth transition to living in Old Vicarage was made possible by the attentive caring staff and the professional management team. My parents have soon settled into lovely bright rooms, good food, great and varied entertainment from visits to eating out, and involvement with the Olympics, personal trainer visits and no longer living a lonely boring life. Crucially there are noticeably enough staff, all attentive and friendly.
My mum has been in The Old Vicarage over a year now. She absolutely loves it, I have seen a massive improvement in her, she looks so well and cared for in this lovely place. All staff are amazing, nothing is too much trouble for any of them. They all work so hard, carers, cleaners, laundry, handyman, activities, they are all fantastic. Management are so approachable, any problems they deal with it in a professional manner. I'm so glad we chose The Old Vicarage for my mum, I can go home after visiting her and know that she's in good hands.
My Mum was welcomed into The Old Vicarage family after a fall at home. From day one, we have been delighted with every aspect of her care. The staff are warm, welcoming, and knowledgeable about my Mum's needs and preferences. They always endeavour to maintain mental stimulation with a wide variety of activities. It is lovely to see photographs of my Mum on the website enjoying events as diverse as bowling and baking! The monthly magazine gives details of the daily activities so we always know what she is up to! The food is delicious and plentiful and the weekly menu is displayed clearly. Drinks and snacks are readily available and the staff works creatively to keep the residents "fed and watered" with treats such as individually made smoothies. The mission statement of The Old Vicarage is; " A superb place to live or work" and this does not happen by chance. It is a result of the hard work and dedication of all staff and an excellent, perceptive management team who maintain excellent standards. My mum is thriving at The Old Vicarage.
My mother has been a resident of The Old Vicarage since January 2023, she enjoyed activities and days out whilst she was able to. Sadly, she was diagnosed with Alzheimer's/vascular dementia and her health began to deteriorate. In August/September 2023 she became bedridden for approximately 5 weeks and recovered until February 2024 when she passed away. Everyone from management, care staff, cleaners, kitchen, laundry, activities, and handyman treated her with love, care, and kindness. She passed away treated with dignity and respect.
My mum moved into The Old Vicarage at Clay Cross on the 25th of January 2024. We got to view the available rooms and were able to pick one that would suit Mum. Mum's care needs were met with the utmost respect and every need was catered for. All the staff go above and beyond. The food, entertainment, and plans for weeks in advance are superb. The menu was full of great choices. I do think that the tea/coffee, biscuit trolley never stops. Management is approachable and understanding and I can’t say enough, as are all the other staff. We viewed a few care homes in the area. Nothing matches The Old Vicarage's standard. You can make the room personal. Felt homely and we soon had pictures on the wall from home. Thanks.
My mother has mixed dementia and moved into The Old Vicarage last summer, aged 72, after a traumatic period of lost diagnosis, trying to care for her at home and at a different care home. From the second I visited The Old Vicarage, I knew it was where we had been searching for. There is always a friendly yet professional atmosphere and the staff are always welcoming and responsive at every level. Communications are clear and efficient and It has taken a great weight off my sister and my shoulders knowing that our mum is enjoying her life and being treated with compassion. The activities are amazing and provide the option of stimulation in a safe environment that my mother so desperately needed.
My mum had to leave her home after suffering water damage as a result of a storm. Mum had to spend twelve weeks in respite care until her property was habitable again. After staying for two weeks in emergency accommodation she then moved nearer to her home and stayed for ten weeks at The Old Vicarage Care Home at Clay Cross. To begin with, Mum was very apprehensive about her stay at the care home but after a few days, the staff encouraged Mum to join in the many activities that were on offer to the residents. Mum found all the staff to be very caring, with a positive attitude and they always had a smile on their face. Nothing was too much trouble. Mum is now back at home and she has made many friends, which includes staff members who have invited her to return for day visits. As a family, we would definitely recommend The Old Vicarage Care Home to anyone. Thank you for looking after Mum so well.
From the first time I went into The Old Vicarage, I was aware that the home was managed excellently. Having previously worked in the health care system, I could see there were procedures in place for everything. The staff are approachable and always willing to help. Anything I have asked for has been no trouble for them. The atmosphere in the home is lovely with a warm, happy feeling. The care from the staff is wonderful, they are attentive in every way. The activities are incredible with a complete diary of events for the residents. My sister doesn’t take part in the communal activities, she is given one-to-one and has been taken out several times. I can’t express how good it is to feel your loved ones are totally looked after when you are not there. It means I can sleep at night. The food looks great and drinks are available anytime. My sister's room is very nice and kept lovely and clean. Her laundry is done efficiently and she always looks nice. I can’t thank you all enough. Five stars from me.
I wish my dad had had more time to enjoy being at the Old Vicarage. From his assessment onwards, the staff bent over backwards to ensure that he had everything he needed for the move into their care home. He was happy from the moment he arrived and we both appreciated the caring, friendly and professional approach of all the staff. He relaxed when he arrived at the Old Vicarage because he knew he was in safe hands and he loved that the staff had time to chat and be attentive towards him. He loved the excellent food too! The atmosphere was homely and welcoming, with lots of staff about. The manager's door was always open, which I appreciated. I was so happy that my dad was at the Old Vicarage when he passed away, in the warmth of that 'family' environment. The staff helped me through all that with kindness and compassion. Thank you so much Old Vicarage, for everything!
My husband has been a resident in The Old Vicarage Clay Cross for 18 months until his death in June 2023. During the last three months, there has been a new manager. The place has been transformed 100% for the better in every department with a good team of staff working around her. My husband couldn't have been looked after with more love, kindness and affection by the staff which was conveyed also to me and my family. For this, I will be eternally grateful to them all.
The Old Vicarage is a warm and welcoming place. The people (residents) are well looked after, the staff do so much to keep them happy and entertained. The best old people's home I have been in.
