Clean and tidy care home. My auntie feels safe here. The receptionist is a breath of fresh air, always welcoming and friendly. The unit manager and carers are very responsive and any concerns I have raised have been dealt with efficiently and effectively. The deputy home manger is also friendly and
responsive. I would have given 5 stars had the home manager been more communicative and actually spoke when you entered the home.

Unfortunately my lovely Dad ended up on Balmoral unit after a fall. He stayed there for 6 weeks and he seemed happy. He is now on Clarence unit permanently and appears to be quite settled and we feel that have made the right decision.
I have 2 gripes
1. The phone system at the weekend is
dire. You cannot get through at all. I have sent an email to the deputy manager of the home stating my dissatisfaction over a week ago and still not received a response. this in my opinion is unacceptable. As you can imagine it's extremely frustrating not to be able to find out how my Dad is.
2. More importantly there is a distinct lack of staff most of the time. For example my Dad needed the toilet and there was no one available to take him, this happens regularly. I have had to go and look for members of staff. This is extremely worrying as he is very frail and prone to falls.
On a positive note Michelle the receptionist is very helpful and polite.

Mum was made to feel "at home" from the moment that she arrived. She settled in well and with the support and care of the team there has thrived. Everyone refers to Mum by her name and all seem to know her personality well, which is great to see. The fact that we are also known and greeted by name
too, just makes it feel like a lovely place to be. The care is good and our Mum feels safe and happy in the environment. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Athorpe Lodge.

Mum was at the home first two weeks of January for respite and the staff were caring and professional, they took time to reassure us at a time that was quite distressing for us. She is now on the Therapy unit and the level of support and care she is being given is excellent

My mum has been at Athorpe for two and a half years after a short hospital stay. She really enjoys being part of the Athorpe family and has established lots of positive relationsships with both staff and residents alike.
She is very well cared for and as her needs change her care adapts
accordingly. As her daughter I have peace of mind that she is happy and well cared for and as a family we get to enjoy quality family time with her.
Athorpe is a very welcoming environment from the minute you enter reception and are met with a friendly smile, to the amazing carers, cleaners, cooks and office staff.
As a family we are very happy we chose Athorpe for our mum.

Making the decision to put my darling father into long time care has been the hardest thing I've had to do. But Athorpe Lodge have been incredibly supportive and kind! My dad loves it here. The meals are delicious, they encourage family participation at every turn. I've been able to eat with dad,
making a difference to his appetite. The food is perfection and healthy, favourite snacks are encouraged, tea/coffee/beverages on tap.
But the staff..you are incredible! So caring, you're on hand at the drop of a hat. Nothing is too much trouble. Staff levels are excellent! Huge special mentions to Louise, Sam, Jo and Michelle on reception who've been my support over the last few days! I'm eternally grateful, but above all else, I know my dad is safe, happy and in the best of hands. Thank you so very much!! I'm not over exaggerating when I say it's like a huge family!

18 months ago, we spent a long time looking at, and visiting, many care homes for Mum and Dad. We are so glad that we chose Athorpe lodge. Right from the start, the welcome that they received when we moved them in was so genuine and made them feel instantly at home. The care home bought them a
double bed so they could continue to be together day and night and they had a room decorated as a private lounge for them. Nothing felt too much trouble.
Sadly, Dad died 6 weeks after moving in, but the staff at the home were incredibly kind and caring to all of us as a family. Mum has continued living happily at Athorpe lodge since then and and it is lovely that the staff there continue to chat with Mum about Dad. The food is good and plentiful and Mum also enjoys helping herself to the snacks and fruit whenever she fancies anything outside mealtimes. The staff are dedicated and have a lovely manner with all the clients. It is such a relief to know that Mum is so safe and well cared for.

Lovely care home. Person centred care. Fantastic staff. My mum took time to settle the staff are so patient and kind. Ensure residents socialise and maintain daily routines. Food Lovely, home made and plentiful. Only criticism would be more activities such as music and a good old sing along.
Clean, warm and safe. Excellent from our families perspective.

Our experience as a family with a relative in Athorpe Lodge was a very positive one. I don't think dad would have come home if he hadn't had the care and physiotherapy that he got at Athorpe Lodge. We cannot thank the staff enough for all they did for him, and that goes for the cleaners, the carers,
the physios and everyone in between; they were all amazing. My parents are both 92, and although my mom wasn't a patient, the respect and care they were both shown was second to none. I would fully recommend Athorpe to anyone who needs a safe place for their parent or relative to be looked after. I can't think of a negative word to say about my dad's experience in Athorpe. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.

The staff are caring, and compassionate and go above and beyond to help.
As well as supporting my mum the staff were a huge support to me too.
The food was excellent, and the bedrooms were of a high
standard and decorated beautifully.
Sadly my mum passed away on the 22nd of November 2023, but I know she was very happy at Athorpe.
I just want to say a huge thank you to 6 members of staff in particular and the other staff for looking after my mum and me.
I will be forever grateful for everything you did for my mum and dad.
I would recommend Athorpe 100%.

My brother has been a permanent resident at Athorpe for nine months and his complex needs have been met in a kind and compassionate way. The staff throughout the home have been brilliant from the start. I can't fault their attitude or commitment and would recommend Athorpe Lodge to anyone looking
for a similar level of care for a loved one.

I visit at all times including weekends. Staff are always pleasant professional and happy to help. Clients all appear comfortable and settled.
Dignity and respect are important to me and the care of a dearly beloved friend is my highest priority, the home appears to have the balance just right.
Also trying to encourage a little independence.
I’ve been visiting weekly since October 2022 and have had no issues at all. I put satisfactory for food as I wish they would provide whole meal bread not white and a greater variety of cereal. But it’s a minor grumble when overall I find it excellent and I’m very picky.

My mum has been in Athorpe Lodge for a year now on Clarence Ward. I am so happy with the care she receives. 2 members of staff, in particular, are so helpful (even face timing on Christmas Day to speak to mum, as I live two and a half hours away). The staff go beyond the call of duty and mum is very
happy.
