We visited Athorpe to see what it would be like for our Mum when and if the time arises for her to have a new home in a care home. Mum has dementia and my 87 yr Dad is her main carer. The visit reassured us that this place would a perfect place for her. Nice rooms, friendly staff and a no nonsense manager which I liked very much. If you're worried, like I was, then the best thing to do is go and look yourself. Not everything might suit but me and brother would happy for our Mum to be there, safe and well looked after.

Grace Jess Peter Terri Cat Soloman and many more (I forgot their names lol ) were great and helpful Rose and Liz the domestics were the same nothing was too much trouble for any of the staff. I was very nervous about coming to the Lodge but I feel so much better now and I cant thank them enough, Athorpe is set in beautiful grounds which are kept neat and tidy and it's so peaceful to sit outside on a nice day. And we cant forget Michelle on the reception who is so welcoming and friendly.

Athorpe Lodge is a lovely place in beautiful surroundings. Michelle on reception goes above and beyond to help and is very friendly. My husband was in for rehabilitation after a long spell in hospital. The staff have been very understanding with him and always reassuring him.

During her stay the staff have been absolutely brilliant, yesterday was mum's 100th Birthday and Gemma and her team made sure it was a memorable day!!!!! The arranged party was just what mum needed, and the singer they hired actually got mum singing and toe tapping!! Can't thank Gemma and her team enough for helping mum through her recovery. Mum feels comfortable and safe at Athorpe, however, her ultimate goal is to return to the home she has lived in for over 70 years.

I have 2 gripes
1. The phone system at the weekend is dire. You cannot get through at all. I have sent an email to the deputy manager of the home stating my dissatisfaction over a week ago and still not received a response. this in my opinion is unacceptable. As you can imagine it's extremely frustrating not to be able to find out how my Dad is.
2. More importantly there is a distinct lack of staff most of the time. For example my Dad needed the toilet and there was no one available to take him, this happens regularly. I have had to go and look for members of staff. This is extremely worrying as he is very frail and prone to falls.On a positive note Michelle the receptionist is very helpful and polite.

Mum was at the home first two weeks of January for respite and the staff were caring and professional, they took time to reassure us at a time that was quite distressing for us. She is now on the Therapy unit and the level of support and care she is being given is excellent
