Athorpe Lodge

Making the decision to put my darling father into long time care has been the hardest thing I've had to do. But Athorpe Lodge have been incredibly supportive and kind! My dad loves it here. The meals are delicious, they encourage family participation at every turn. I've been able to eat with dad, making a difference to his appetite. The food is perfection and healthy, favourite snacks are encouraged, tea/coffee/beverages on tap.

But the staff..you are incredible! So caring, you're on hand at the drop of a hat. Nothing is too much trouble. Staff levels are excellent! Huge special mentions to Louise, Sam, Jo and Michelle on reception who've been my support over the last few days! I'm eternally grateful, but above all else, I know my dad is safe, happy and in the best of hands. Thank you so very much!! I'm not over exaggerating when I say it's like a huge family!

Sadly, Dad died 6 weeks after moving in, but the staff at the home were incredibly kind and caring to all of us as a family. Mum has continued living happily at Athorpe lodge since then and and it is lovely that the staff there continue to chat with Mum about Dad. The food is good and plentiful and Mum also enjoys helping herself to the snacks and fruit whenever she fancies anything outside mealtimes. The staff are dedicated and have a lovely manner with all the clients. It is such a relief to know that Mum is so safe and well cared for.

Lovely care home. Person centred care. Fantastic staff. My mum took time to settle the staff are so patient and kind. Ensure residents socialise and maintain daily routines. Food Lovely, home made and plentiful. Only criticism would be more activities such as music and a good old sing along. Clean, warm and safe. Excellent from our families perspective.

Me and my partner have been look after really well they are attentive and caring.....friendly staff who go beyond to help us in any way ....highly recommend for others ....the physio workers are great ...my partner is going home soon and these people here needs a medals

Our experience as a family with a relative in Athorpe Lodge was a very positive one. I don't think dad would have come home if he hadn't had the care and physiotherapy that he got at Athorpe Lodge. We cannot thank the staff enough for all they did for him, and that goes for the cleaners, the carers, the physios and everyone in between; they were all amazing. My parents are both 92, and although my mom wasn't a patient, the respect and care they were both shown was second to none. I would fully recommend Athorpe to anyone who needs a safe place for their parent or relative to be looked after. I can't think of a negative word to say about my dad's experience in Athorpe. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.

My brother has been a permanent resident at Athorpe for nine months and his complex needs have been met in a kind and compassionate way. The staff throughout the home have been brilliant from the start. I can't fault their attitude or commitment and would recommend Athorpe Lodge to anyone looking for a similar level of care for a loved one.

I’ve been visiting weekly since October 2022 and have had no issues at all. I put satisfactory for food as I wish they would provide whole meal bread not white and a greater variety of cereal. But it’s a minor grumble when overall I find it excellent and I’m very picky.

My stepfather is now a permanent resident here. I cannot fault the care he receives and the attitude of the staff. They are friendly, conscientious and care for all his needs. We definitely made the right decision when choosing Athorpe Lodge.

My mum has been at Athorpe Lodge for nearly a year and the staff are lovely and caring and willing to have a joke with her, the care she gets is brilliant. She has ups and downs and the staff are always on hand to talk with her and comfort her. Mum has a great sense of humour and has the staff laughing often which boosts Mum no end many thanks for being so kind to her really is very much appreciated.

My dad had a short stay at Athorpe Lodge. We could not have wished for a more caring, compassionate, professional and sensitive setting. Staff were just wonderful- I can't praise them enough for the way they cared for my dad and the facilities, rooms, communal areas were lovely too.

My mum has been in Athorpe Lodge for a year now on Clarence Ward. I am so happy with the care she receives. 2 members of staff, in particular, are so helpful (even face timing on Christmas Day to speak to mum, as I live two and a half hours away). The staff go beyond the call of duty and mum is very happy.

My mum has been on the Balmoral section of Athorpe Lodge and the treatment and care mum has received has been outstanding. The staff are amazing, they are very friendly and nothing is too much trouble for them. If you or any member of your family is in need of this type of service then look no further than Athorpe Lodge. It is our first dealing with anything like this and I'm glad my mum has been treated with dignity and respect. The food in Athorpe is plenty and very tasty. My mum is one of the world's pickiest eaters, she has eaten pretty much everything that has been cooked and actually put weight on whilst being in Athorpe, very happy about that. Thank you to all the staff at Athorpe, you have all been amazing, very much appreciated.

It has taken me a while to write this review, which I do apologise for. My Dad came to Athorpe Lodge for rehabilitation in June and he absolutely loved it. Unfortunately, his health wasn't that great and his rehabilitation had to be stopped and he became a resident in July due to his deteriorating health. Can I just say how marvellous the staff are on both the rehabilitation section and the nursing section. I was kept fully informed of how my Dad was and the staff were so friendly. He always had a smile for them, the care was brilliant and the food looked lovely and there was always plenty. His room was spotless, it was like a hotel room and the views from the windows were brilliant. Yes, the hot days of July were a bit of a task to control but the efforts of the staff never wavered. Thank you so much for making my Dad's last few weeks on earth one of the most kind, patient and attentive. You are all a credit to the service.

Just a quick message of thanks to the staff of Athorpe Lodge who take wonderful care of my Mum-in-law. She has made great progress since becoming a resident and that is testimony enough to the support, care, and attention she receives from the Athorpe Lodge staff. We as a family recently attended the Queen's Platinum Jubilee garden party organised by the staff. We had a wonderful time, we all thoroughly enjoyed it and cherished the opportunity to roll back the clock and celebrate with our loved one at a social event. Judging by the reaction of all the people attending they shared the same sentiment. Keep the events coming to Athorpe Lodge and thank you from all the family.

My mum has been in Athorpe Lodge for over four years. The standard of care given by the staff in Athorpe has been excellent throughout this time. Covid was obviously difficult for everyone and they performed very well. I have no hesitation in recommending them.

I visit my mum who is a service user. From reception through to the staff on the unit all the staff I have encountered are wonderful. They genuinely care for the residents. I have got to know the receptionist and trust her and because I trust her it makes me also trust the other staff through association. I also have got to know the lovely and dedicated care team on my mum’s ward, these people are wonderful, so caring and I can honestly say that they love the residents in their care. The management team are always available and they are all very approachable. I am very happy that my mum is somewhere where she is clearly loved and cared for.

My husband was admitted here 3-weeks ago for rehabilitation. I can honestly say that the care and support from everyone have been amazing, from the carers, nurses, physio and even the receptionist. I couldn't have a better place for his recovery, definitely recommend Athorpe Lodge.

My Dad moved in here in August 2020, first on the hospital unit and then permanently from October 2020. This home is beautiful, the staff are amazing and they do a phenomenal job in looking after their service users. They keep my Dad safe and well looked after. The receptionist and admin team are friendly, warm and welcoming. I love visiting there. Dad has made heaps of new friends and loves it there.
