Mum and Dad came to live at the Laurels early
December and both settled better than we thought they ever would.
Sadly we lost Dad on new year's eve .
The support mum and my family received was so much appreciated at such a difficult time for us all.
Mum has done so well coping without Dad will
the the support from every member of staff not just the carers but everyone who works there, they are so kind and helpful and take time to help and have a chat with mum .I visit often and I always feel very welcome. They keep me well informed at all times .
They provide lots of activities for the residents , there is always something for the residents to do.
It's been extremely hard for me personally to let someone else look after and care for my mum and Dad. But I know my mum is in very safe hands and I am so grateful to them all .
Reply from Michele Jackson, Manager at The LaurelsThank you for the lovely review, it was a pleasure to be able to look after your father for the short period of time he was with the home.

Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5
Following a lengthy stay in hospital mum became a resident in Beechy Knoll in January. Her confidence was low, had lost a lot of weight and had difficulty walking. Since living here her confidence and general appearance has blossomed and her independence with walking has massivley improved. This is
due to the excellent staff who encourage and cannot do enough for mum. The activities are varied and cater for all abilities - mum is busy every afternoon. The food provided is also of a very high standard. The management are accessible, approachable and friendly and have been hugely supportive with form filling and helping mum to settle in. I cannot rate this home highly enough. Even our relatives have commented on the lovely home and staff.

Mum has been residing at Brantley Manor for over two years. Brantley benefits from having lovely kind, caring staff who take good care of mum. The food looks lovely and is provided in a light bright dining room, there is also a sunny conservatory. The home is always nice and warm and the housekeeping
team keep the home clean. Because Brantley is a smaller home with fewer residents than some places, the staff know residents likes and dislikes and there is a family feel.

My husband went to the Old Rectory in February 2025. He was not in the best of health at the time and he was quite difficult to deal with initially and I was really worried about him. I didn't want to leave him there but the staff assured me he would settle in time, which he did and became settled and
happy, healthy, improved rapidly. The staff at the Old Rectory were wonderful, not only with residents but giving support to bereaved families really really caring. Management is very very good.
Reply from Michaela Pye, TBC at Old RectoryThank you so much for your kind and thoughtful words. It truly means a great deal to us. It was an absolute privilege to care for your husband; he was such a special gentleman and will always hold a place in our hearts. We feel very fortunate to have known him, and also to have built such a lovely relationship with you, and your girls. Being part of his journey and supporting your family during that time was an honour for our whole team.

Wonderful friendly staff. I haven't met any member of staff that doesn't have a warm welcoming smile on their face. The nature in which they look after the residents is second to none. There is always someone close enough to give a helping hand if needed.
The activities that are organized are for
not only the residents but also visitors who wish to join in and they are outstanding. They organize singing and dancing, exercises and various table activities. Painting, drawing and crayoning, also bingo, dominoes and various other games all to keep the residents happy, occupied and amused.
The food also looks delicious with much variety.
The care home is very clean and tidy and well looked after.
The laundry facilities are excellent and clean pressed clothes returned to the residence on a daily basis.

Clean and tidy care home. My auntie feels safe here. The receptionist is a breath of fresh air, always welcoming and friendly. The unit manager and carers are very responsive and any concerns I have raised have been dealt with efficiently and effectively. The deputy home manger is also friendly and

Unfortunately my lovely Dad ended up on Balmoral unit after a fall. He stayed there for 6 weeks and he seemed happy. He is now on Clarence unit permanently and appears to be quite settled and we feel that have made the right decision.

I have 2 gripes

1. The phone system at the weekend is dire.

You cannot get through at all. I have sent an email to the deputy manager of the home stating my dissatisfaction over a week ago and still not received a response. this in my opinion is unacceptable. As you can imagine it's extremely frustrating not to be able to find out how my Dad is.

2. More importantly there is a distinct lack of staff most of the time. For example my Dad needed the toilet and there was no one available to take him, this happens regularly. I have had to go and look for members of staff. This is extremely worrying as he is very frail and prone to falls.
On a positive note Michelle the receptionist is very helpful and polite.

Reply from Jodi O'Hagan, Business Manager at Athorpe LodgeThank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We are pleased to hear that your Dad settled well and is now feeling comfortable and settled on Clarence. Mum was made to feel "at home" from the moment that she arrived. She settled in well and with the support and care of the team there has thrived. Everyone refers to Mum by her name and all seem to know her personality well, which is great to see. The fact that we are also known and greeted by name too,
just makes it feel like a lovely place to be. The care is good and our Mum feels safe and happy in the environment. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Athorpe Lodge.
