Clean and tidy care home. My auntie feels safe here. The receptionist is a breath of fresh air, always welcoming and friendly. The unit manager and carers are very responsive and any concerns I have raised have been dealt with efficiently and effectively. The deputy home manger is also friendly and
responsive. I would have given 5 stars had the home manager been more communicative and actually spoke when you entered the home.

Unfortunately my lovely Dad ended up on Balmoral unit after a fall. He stayed there for 6 weeks and he seemed happy. He is now on Clarence unit permanently and appears to be quite settled and we feel that have made the right decision.
I have 2 gripes
1. The phone system at the weekend is dire.
You cannot get through at all. I have sent an email to the deputy manager of the home stating my dissatisfaction over a week ago and still not received a response. this in my opinion is unacceptable. As you can imagine it's extremely frustrating not to be able to find out how my Dad is.
2. More importantly there is a distinct lack of staff most of the time. For example my Dad needed the toilet and there was no one available to take him, this happens regularly. I have had to go and look for members of staff. This is extremely worrying as he is very frail and prone to falls.
On a positive note Michelle the receptionist is very helpful and polite.
Reply from Jodi O'Hagan, Business Manager at Athorpe LodgeThank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We are pleased to hear that your Dad settled well and is now feeling comfortable and settled on Clarence. It means a great deal to us that you feel you made the right decision in choosing our home for his care. We are very sorry to read about your concerns regarding the phone system. This is not the level of communication we aim to provide, and we understand how distressing it can be when you are unable to get timely updates about your loved one. We will be reviewing this matter internally to ensure improvements are made. Regarding staffing availability, safety, dignity and wellbeing of our residents are our highest priorities, and your comments have been taken very seriously. We will be looking into this to ensure appropriate support is always available. We would welcome the opportunity to speak with you directly to discuss your concerns further. . Please feel free to contact the Home Home Manager at your convenience.

Mum was made to feel "at home" from the moment that she arrived. She settled in well and with the support and care of the team there has thrived. Everyone refers to Mum by her name and all seem to know her personality well, which is great to see. The fact that we are also known and greeted by name too,
just makes it feel like a lovely place to be. The care is good and our Mum feels safe and happy in the environment. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Athorpe Lodge.
Reply from Jodi O'Hagan, Business Manager at Athorpe LodgeThank you so much for your kind words. It good to hear that you feel your mum has thrived from the care and support she has received from the staff at Athorpe.

My mum has been at Athorpe for two and a half years after a short hospital stay. She really enjoys being part of the Athorpe family and has established lots of positive relationsships with both staff and residents alike.
She is very well cared for and as her needs change her care adapts accordingly.
As her daughter I have peace of mind that she is happy and well cared for and as a family we get to enjoy quality family time with her.
Athorpe is a very welcoming environment from the minute you enter reception and are met with a friendly smile, to the amazing carers, cleaners, cooks and office staff.
As a family we are very happy we chose Athorpe for our mum.

Making the decision to put my darling father into long time care has been the hardest thing I've had to do. But Athorpe Lodge have been incredibly supportive and kind! My dad loves it here. The meals are delicious, they encourage family participation at every turn. I've been able to eat with dad, making
a difference to his appetite. The food is perfection and healthy, favourite snacks are encouraged, tea/coffee/beverages on tap.
But the staff..you are incredible! So caring, you're on hand at the drop of a hat. Nothing is too much trouble. Staff levels are excellent! Huge special mentions to Louise, Sam, Jo and Michelle on reception who've been my support over the last few days! I'm eternally grateful, but above all else, I know my dad is safe, happy and in the best of hands. Thank you so very much!! I'm not over exaggerating when I say it's like a huge family!

18 months ago, we spent a long time looking at, and visiting, many care homes for Mum and Dad. We are so glad that we chose Athorpe lodge. Right from the start, the welcome that they received when we moved them in was so genuine and made them feel instantly at home. The care home bought them a double
bed so they could continue to be together day and night and they had a room decorated as a private lounge for them. Nothing felt too much trouble.
Sadly, Dad died 6 weeks after moving in, but the staff at the home were incredibly kind and caring to all of us as a family. Mum has continued living happily at Athorpe lodge since then and and it is lovely that the staff there continue to chat with Mum about Dad. The food is good and plentiful and Mum also enjoys helping herself to the snacks and fruit whenever she fancies anything outside mealtimes. The staff are dedicated and have a lovely manner with all the clients. It is such a relief to know that Mum is so safe and well cared for.

Lovely care home. Person centred care. Fantastic staff. My mum took time to settle the staff are so patient and kind. Ensure residents socialise and maintain daily routines. Food Lovely, home made and plentiful. Only criticism would be more activities such as music and a good old sing along. Clean,
warm and safe. Excellent from our families perspective.

At very short notice we had to place mom in respite care. Mum had never been to this care home before, the one she was used to was not available. This was an extremely anxious time for us. When I contacted the manager she was very eager to support me & offered a room for the dates required. Although
this was very thoughtful I was still very anxious because mum is from an Afro Caribbean background It was important that mums cultural needs would be met. I was so touched to observe the kindness and warmth shown to mum on her arrival. During a conversation with the manager I had told her how mums faith is very important to her. The manager had clearly remembered this & mums name tag included a picture of a preacher& gospel choir. This was a heartfelt personal touch to ensure mum felt comfortable & welcomed. This was the start of a fantastic respite placement for my mum that continued to the end including welcoming mums church congregation to the care home. This was very important to mum.
Reply from Marina Glaves, Resgistered Manager at Beechy KnollThank you for taking the time to complete this reveiw, it was a pleasure to welcome Mum and her Church friends and family into Beechy Knoll. It was warming to see how Mum was involved in activities and was very comfortable chatting to other residents and staff. It would be a pleasure to welcome Mum again should she need any further support.

It looks very Cosy, but can be noisy on occasions, with residents and staff shouting in corridors.
I think they have a lot to deal with and could do with more staff on.
The staff appear lovely and try to help you as much as they can.
The conservatory is a very relaxing warm and Cosy place to go for
a family meeting. Or even just for a place to recharge.
Reply from Marina Glaves, Resgistered Manager at Beechy KnollThank you for taking the time to write the review, it can become noisy at times when everyone is moving around in the corridor. The staff team are very committed to the residents and there are always staff on duty. Visitors are welcome to use the conservatory and the garden area, we also encourage families to join their loved ones for a meal in the conservatory.

We can never thank the manager and the staff at Beechy enough for the kindness and care they showed to my sister, and to us, her family, particularly towards the end of her life. She had suffered from increasingly severe dementia throughout her stay there but she was always made to feel special and
encouraged to join in the many activities and celebrations with such patience and care from the staff. The food was excellent and everyone was always well presented.
Thank you so much to you all.

Our experience as a family with a relative in Athorpe Lodge was a very positive one. I don't think dad would have come home if he hadn't had the care and physiotherapy that he got at Athorpe Lodge. We cannot thank the staff enough for all they did for him, and that goes for the cleaners, the carers,
the physios and everyone in between; they were all amazing. My parents are both 92, and although my mom wasn't a patient, the respect and care they were both shown was second to none. I would fully recommend Athorpe to anyone who needs a safe place for their parent or relative to be looked after. I can't think of a negative word to say about my dad's experience in Athorpe. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.

I have a mum and a sister in Beechy Knoll! I had no real prior experience of a care home setting and so, I honestly didn't know what to expect. Since day one, I can only say it has been amazing. I have turned up unannounced many times and the staff have always been amazing. My mum and sister are very
happy living here and I have no complaints whatsoever about anything.

My friend has lived in Beechy Knoll for a year. She is looked after by dedicated, caring staff who are always friendly to her, despite her sometimes challenging behaviour. I can't praise all the staff at Beechy Knoll highly enough. Nothing is too much trouble and they really care about their residents and even us relatives too!
My mum has been here for over two years and then my dad has been here just over a year.
I know they are so well cared for and looked after and
knowing they're together means such a lot.
Everywhere is spotlessly clean and the food is amazing.
There are activities for the residents which they love.
I would definitely recommend Beechy Knoll to anyone.
