We have been really impressed with the home to home feel that mum has received at Athorpe . The friendly welcome at reception makes you feel at ease and Michelle is so lovely and caring nothing is ever too much trouble. Mum really likes all the staff and they know mum very well now. All carers are professional and want the best for their residents.
I would highly recommend Athorpe to other families. Many thanks

I cannot speak highly enough of Marina and the entire team at Beechy Knoll for the care, kindness and compassion shown to my nan during her time there. Following a hospital stay, we were worried and overwhelmed, but Marina made what could have been a stressful transition feel straightforward and reassuring. From our first conversation, we knew my nan was in safe hands. The care provided went far beyond our expectations. My nan was treated with dignity, warmth and genuine affection. She was not just cared for, she was truly known, valued and respected as an individual. This gave our family priceless peace of mind during a very emotional time. Beechy Knoll feels more like a luxury hotel than a care home, with beautiful surroundings and exceptional standards throughout. However, what makes it truly special is the atmosphere of warmth, compassion and family that Marina and her team have created. We will always be grateful for the support kindness and humanity shown to nan and our family.

Dad went into Athorpe Lodge for rehabilitation after falling and ended up having a hip replacement. The care and treatment he received there was excellent.
A special shout-out to Peter on the Balmoral unit who not only cared for dad but was so understanding and considerate. The world needs more Peters. A mention also to Michelle on reception who always greeted with a smile and took the time to ask how we as a family are doing. She is a credit to Athorpe lodge.
↩Reply from sara leigh, Home Manager at Athorpe Lodge
Thank you for sharing your family's experience with us. It was an absolute privilege to care for your dad during his rehabilitation. Hearing how much Peter's dedicated care and Michelle's warm greetings meant to you truly highlights what Athorpe Lodge is all about. We wish your dad the absolute best on his health journey.

Following a fall at home, my mother was admitted to the Hampton Wing and will likely be staying for a few weeks while she recovers sufficient strength to move back home. During her stay the staff have been absolutely brilliant, yesterday was mum's 100th Birthday and Gemma and her team made sure it was a memorable day!!!!! The arranged party was just what mum needed, and the singer they hired actually got mum singing and toe tapping!! Can't thank Gemma and her team enough for helping mum through her recovery. Mum feels comfortable and safe at Athorpe, however, her ultimate goal is to return to the home she has lived in for over 70 years.

Overall Experience
My Mum has just spent 2 weeks in respite care at Beechy Knoll Care Home. From the first general enquiry with Marina the Manager of Beechy Knoll, we were met with kindness, guidance and reassurance that my Mum would have her needs met (she has Alzheimer's), this wàs further confirmed when Mum was assessed at our home prior to being admitted. The home is set in lovely grounds near to local amenities and transport. When I took Mum for her stay, the staff greeted her as though she was a member of their "family", she was given a tour of the home, along with a good Yorkshire brew with biscuits, before being shown to her room, which was beautiful and had everything she would need. During Mum's stay she made friends and was encouraged to join in with games and crafts (something I couldn't get her to do at home!!) it was like a mini holiday for her and a welcoming rest for myself and my husband. The care, food and facilities were excellent and I can't thank the staff enough!!

We couldn't be happier with the care my nan has received at this care home. She has dementia, and it gives our family great peace of mind knowing she is safe, well looked after, and treated with kindness and respect every day. The staff are absolutely brilliant-always welcoming, friendly, and incredibly helpful. They genuinely care about the residents and are always happy to answer any questions or offer support. The food is lovely, with a good variety of meals, and the rooms are always spotlessly clean and tidy. The home has a warm, caring atmosphere that makes it feel like a real home. We would highly recommend this care home to anyone looking for high-quality care for a loved one. Thank you to all the wonderful staff for everything you do.

Moving a loved one into a care home is a heart wrenching process. The staff at this care home are so lovely, from the moment we first visited, they really cared for us all through the process. The staff took the time to get to know my nan, ensuring her needs, preferences, and routines are respected. They allowed us to personalise her bedroom, which has really helped my nan settle into a new environment, surrounded by her home comforts. The team are always responsive and attentive, addressing any concerns or changing needs promptly and with genuine compassion. Communication has been excellent, providing reassurance that my Nan is receiving the highest standard of care. There is a great variety of nutritious and appetising meals to suit different tastes and dietary requirements. The staff always encourage residents to get involved in social activities and the communal spaces are lovely.
It's comforting to know my nan is safe and receiving quality care from lovely people.

Overall Experience
Following a lengthy stay in hospital mum became a resident in Beechy Knoll in January. Her confidence was low, had lost a lot of weight and had difficulty walking. Since living here her confidence and general appearance has blossomed and her independence with walking has massivley improved. This is due to the excellent staff who encourage and cannot do enough for mum. The activities are varied and cater for all abilities - mum is busy every afternoon. The food provided is also of a very high standard. The management are accessible, approachable and friendly and have been hugely supportive with form filling and helping mum to settle in. I cannot rate this home highly enough. Even our relatives have commented on the lovely home and staff.

My mum has been at Beechy Knoll for two months. During that time, she has been treated with respect, dignity, kindness and friendship. It has been a life-changing event for mum, but she has been encouraged and supported by the excellent staff to help her integrate into the home community. I, along with my sister, have been able to discuss any concerns or worries with the staff who have been excellent in sorting any issues. Mum says the staff and talks highly of them, that is all we need to hear. Thank you.

Clean and tidy care home. My auntie feels safe here. The receptionist is a breath of fresh air, always welcoming and friendly. Unfortunately my lovely Dad ended up on Balmoral unit after a fall. He stayed there for 6 weeks and he seemed happy. He is now on Clarence unit permanently and appears to be quite settled and we feel that have made the right decision.
I have 2 gripes
1. The phone system at the weekend is dire. You cannot get through at all. I have sent an email to the deputy manager of the home stating my dissatisfaction over a week ago and still not received a response. this in my opinion is unacceptable. As you can imagine it's extremely frustrating not to be able to find out how my Dad is.
2. More importantly there is a distinct lack of staff most of the time. For example my Dad needed the toilet and there was no one available to take him, this happens regularly. I have had to go and look for members of staff. This is extremely worrying as he is very frail and prone to falls.
On a positive note Michelle the receptionist is very helpful and polite.

Mum was made to feel "at home" from the moment that she arrived. She settled in well and with the support and care of the team there has thrived. Everyone refers to Mum by her name and all seem to know her personality well, which is great to see. My mum has been at Athorpe for two and a half years after a short hospital stay. She really enjoys being part of the Athorpe family and has established lots of positive relationsships with both staff and residents alike. She is very well cared for and as her needs change her care adapts accordingly. As her daughter I have peace of mind that she is happy and well cared for and as a family we get to enjoy quality family time with her. Athorpe is a very welcoming environment from the minute you enter reception and are met with a friendly smile, to the amazing carers, cleaners, cooks and office staff.
As a family we are very happy we chose Athorpe for our mum.
