What a wonderful place! My Mother moved into The Clough at the end of Feb 2026 and she is very happy there. She has a lovely big room with fantastic views of the large garden. The building and facilities are very well maintained. The care staff are all welcoming, friendly, supportive and show a real interest in the residents wellbeing. My Mother is always complimenting the staff and how much she likes living there. The food looks great from my observations and Mum is enjoying it. There are constant special events and activities, in fact she has a better social life than me.

My mum is happy and that's all that matters. Just concern on cleaning of room and smell in bedroom. Laundry not returning her items and on numerous occasions we have seen other residents in mum's clothes. Personal items ( bed throws) gone missing. Great activities since the return of the events coordinator.

I must compliment the manager and her staff for the way they look after my dad and other residents.
They always are approachable and friendly whilst ensuring the wellbeing of the individuals is maintained.
There is a 'family' atmosphere at The Clough which speaks volumes for the work that goes on to ensure everyone is looked after and appear to be in such a happy environment.

Keep up the good work

Best residential care home in Bolton. Great staff and my mum is very happy there. Could not have picked a better place for my mum to be looked after. She says the food is very good and I believe her. Plus they have plenty of activities going on.

My grandad is at The Clough. The team are fantastic and the manager is lovely. Any problems we can just speak with her. The staff are very caring and it is noticeable that the manager has an eye for detail, which reflects in the tidiness of the home. There is a new deputy and she seems really nice too. I like that there is always staff presence.

All in all a five-star rating from me.

All in all the staff are brilliant and do a good job of looking after the residents there’s only one thing that lets the home down and that’s the lift it’s constantly breaking and means some residents get stuck up in their bedroom and it’s happening on a regular basis the owner of the building seriously needs to invest in a new reliable lift as it isn’t fair on the residents or the carers but other than that it’s a lovely home and I can’t fault the staff.

Reply from Lynne Mellor, Manager at The Clough
Thank you for your review, we appreciate and value all feedback. We are very sorry to hear about your concern regarding the lift. We have been very lucky with the consistent runnings of the lift.

However as you have highlighted, there have been some minor problems and unfortunately with most...

My dad recently moved into The Clough Care Home, from the first day he was made to feel at home. The staff are caring, friendly and also always available to discuss Dad’s needs. Every visit to Dad also includes an update from the staff on how Dad is settling in.

Overall Experience
Our friend and neighbour were discharged from the hospital into The Clough. Our regular visits showed her to be well looked after and the general facilities to be very good. We saw the quality of food being served and tasted a celebratory event buffet. They were excellent.
Our friend experienced end-of-life care that could not have been any better. Staff were kind, caring and compassionate.
We were also visiting another friend at a different home which couldn't be compared with The Clough.
Hence he was moved there. From needing a hoist in and out of a chair, The Clough staff worked to enable him to stand and walk aided by a Zimmer. That's dedication for you.

Hence, from our experience, we recommend The Clough. It is set in nice surroundings, with gardens, a patio and a conservatory. Judging by what we have experienced, residents are treated as people and not commodities.

My mum moved to The Clough on 20/10/2022. She has settled really well, never having experienced any care setting previously. Mum was at home prior to admission to the hospital on 05/09/20222. I visited The Clough, spoke with the manager and knew this was the right place for Mum. The staff are so caring, dedicated and motivate the residents to be the best they can be. It is 100% a great home.

The Clough has looked after my granny for the past six months.
I have nothing but great words for the team at The Clough.
This is a care home where you walk in and feel a happy atmosphere. There are numerous rooms i.e. the busy room and the quiet room. This gives my granny the opportunity to choose where she is seated depending on how she is feeling that day.
Staff are always very busy but always have a smile (sometimes with their eyes if they are wearing face masks) for you. They will always offer us a cup of tea and a biscuit.
The manager is lovely and often comes and asks us how we are and if everything is ok.
We just know my granny is safe and looked after and we thank the whole team for this.

Also, the Christmas party was fantastic and we all enjoyed it. Thank you, you are all angels.

My mother has only been here for a few days, however, so far it has been a very positive experience. All the staff have been welcoming and helpful. The room is very nice and clean. It seems like there are plenty of activities to keep the residents occupied.

The staff have been great with Mum, in very trying circumstances. Still issues with hearing aids and glasses, but Mum not helping the situation at all. The social worker will be very helpful in being the bridge between family and staff.

My dad has been in this care home for about one month now and each time I visit, the staff are very friendly and always interactive with all of the residents. My dad is being well cared for at The Clough and has already managed to do a bit of walking on a frame. The meals are good and there's a good variety. So far, I'm very pleased with the care and attention that Dad is receiving.

My Dad stayed at the Clough this year for 3 months whilst he was having work done on his house. I found the Clough to be a lovely home and the staff were brilliant with him. Management was very approachable and often called to reassure me as I was worried. Turns out he loved it and he looked really good and well when we brought him back home. Thank you to The Clough.

Claire Ashcroft
Claire AshcroftJob Title:Care Home ManagerJoined: 2025

I started my career as a carer in a residential home and quickly progressed to a senior carer role. In 2012, I decided to focus my development on domiciliary care, where for the next 9 years I progressed through the company, from care co-ordinator, to head of client experience, and then deputy manager and here, I obtained my Level 5 Diploma in Adult Social Care.

I was appointed the registered manager of a home care company and enjoyed that experience and pressure, but in 2023, I had a career pivot into quality and compliance.

I enjoyed the different challenges presented in that role, but I really missed the interaction and the human touch I would regularly have in my previous roles, working day in, day out with the residents. With that, I decided to apply to be a manager at The Clough, and it’s one of the best decisions I have made in my career. I feel back at home.
