View Full Details of Barchester Mount Vale Care HomeThe staff at Mount Vale are very caring but the home definitely has insufficient staff mainly because some of the residents with dementia on the the 1st floor need a lot of care and attention. I usually visit in an afternoon and it is often impossible to find help if my husband needs to be cleaned or changed. I sometimes do it myself but at 87 years old I find it difficult and sometimes staff have to stay in the lounge "on watch" as residents can't be left safely. An extra member of staff would really help. Sometimes it is obvious my husband hasn't had a shave for 3 days. I am grateful for all that the staff do but considering the cost of care it would be nice if he had a more frequent shave and perhaps his pad could be checked now + again
My sister moved in just last week 2-7 2025 and the change in her is incredible - from day 1 the staff have been nothing but amazing - extremely friendly, couldn't do enough for us, very supportive - I went to visit her at the weekend, she's bedbound, in her last home she was always just dressed in a nightie 24/7, she said with a smile on her face "Look what I'm wearing", pulled the quilt back and she was fully dressed, wonderful, we went to visit her today and for the 1st time in years she'd had a shower, was sat in her wheelchair waiting to go to the hairdressers. The family cannot thank the staff enough.
My wife has been in Mount Vale for 3 years. During that time I have visited her most days. To my great surprise she settled in straightaway & has remained very settled ever since. This is a tribute to the love & care given her by the staff. I couldn't hope for a better place for her.
Excellent care with many themed days with staff wearing costumes to entertain residents Patience of staff and care quality outstanding the home is run like a happy family. The dedicated high quality staff and pleasant building ambience makes this home outstanding
What an excellent care home Mount Vale Care Home is. My wife is looked after in an excellent manner and I am delighted to say so in this report.
Mum has settled in really well. The care home staff were very empathetic from the first phone call, to looking round and settling mum into the home. The care and compassion they have shown for the whole family has been excellent throughout this process. Mum now has the space to move around freely and she is always pleased to see and interact with the care home staff.
The care here is dedicated, professional and dynamic. The staff are motivated, energetic and aware of every patient's requirements. This is an impressive environment in many respects. The food is very good as is the standard of care. The fabric of the building is very sound and the decoration is very good.
The dementia care is of a very high standard. The staff take the trouble to connect with the residents and are both kind and empathetic. All the staff work very hard to meet the needs of their residents and families. When the undertaker collected my father, he said in 25 years, he had never seen such a level of respect and dignity from staff at a care home. The nurse who was in charge was a brilliant nurse.
Following a difficult month in hospital last July (2024), Mum moved to Barchester Mount Vale Care Home in August (2024). The management and staff managed the move professionally and were supportive and welcoming. We particularly valued their efficiency and kindness at this difficult time. Some of the staff remembered Dad living there in 2019 and this helped to ease Mum into her new home. The staff are so friendly and kind, regularly encouraging Mum to join in with the many and varied activities on offer (daily). She loves having her hair done in the on-site salon and enjoys the home-cooked food (especially the wonderful homemade soups which she often comments positively about). The facilities are good but what makes Mount Vale special is the the kindness of the staff. We are all very happy with Mum's first six months at Mount Vale.
Our mother has received exemplary care at Barchester Mount Vale Care Home. Before going to Mount Vale, she was anxious and often upset. She is now calm and relaxed, not taking any medication, and always appears well turned-out and well cared for. The staff are fantastic, always smiling and welcoming. It's a pleasure going into Mount Vale. We also feel so relaxed and peaceful when we visit.
I feel that the care home manager listened to our feelings about my Father's needs. She acted promptly and with sensitivity. The care workers and nurses make a real effort to get to know the residents and relate to their individual needs.
I have been very impressed by the care my husband has received at Barchester Mount Vale Care Home and how well the staff have been in keeping me informed about his condition and health needs. The staff are very caring and friendly and I would particularly add praise for the entertainment manager who provides a very mixed and appropriate programme for all the residents. I look forward to seeing some changes in use of the common rooms which I hope will be addressed by the new management, particularly not using the coffee bar for activities,
The home is great. With new management in place, it should be able to move to excellent. The majority of the staff worked their socks off, treating residents with dignity and respect and a level of care that they would treat their own grandparents and parents with. The Activities Department team are excellent. The programme they deliver is extensive and varied and enables residents, especially on Memory Lane, to be active and stimulated.
I have visited a few care homes in the last ten years and this one stands out from the rest for all the right reasons. It's like checking into a luxury hotel. There are activities for the residents in comfortable and luxurious surroundings, menu choices for breakfast, lunch and dinner and the accommodation is outstanding. If you have a relative who is potentially going into care, I recommend Barchester Mount Vale Care Home every time. The staff are caring, considerate and helpful. I haven't seen a member of staff leave since my mother-in-law has been a resident. This shows how Barchester looks after not only its residents but also its employees. Kind regards.
My gramps, until very recently, was a resident at Barchester Mount Vale Care Home in Northallerton. The whole team showed nothing but empathy and love to my gramps and to my grandma who visited the home daily.
Mount Vale has been the home for mum for 2 years. The staff are amazing nothing is too small or large they can't handle. Food and entertainment are always 5-star. New management has been in place for months now and it is a breath of fresh air that has been needed. Very happy and would recommend it highly.
We were recently able to move my father-in-law from a different home in the area, and have been struck by how much better cared for her is at Mount Vale. He is settled, clean and tidy, and the staff are so good at chatting with him that he seems to be regaining his interest in life and his sense of humour! The room and communal areas are well-kept and always clean. The only one of the family that is slightly disappointed is the dog, as she can no longer pick up bits of biscuits that have been dropped.
Shortly after my sister's husband had died she moved into Mount Vale Care Home on Easter Saturday of this year. All the staff, office, management, activities, the nurses, kitchen staff, have all been so helpful and understanding. Her room is delightful, overlooking the garden. My cousin and I were invited to join everyone for a Coronation party on the afternoon of 5th May. Mount Vale was decorated to a very high standard, even the "stone dog" wore red, white and blue! The kitchen staff provided amazing party food for us all, even fit for the King and Queen. Thank you.
My mum was a resident at Mount Vale for almost 3 years in Memory Lane. Our family have nothing but praise for the manager and her team. The standard of care is exemplary, and all the staff ( nursing, carers, housekeeping, and admin) are a credit to Mount Vale. The care home itself is beautifully decorated and we always found Mum's room and en-suite to be clean and tidy. The resident's meals and snacks are also of a high standard. There are plenty of activities going on in the home for those wanting to join in. Mum was always treated extremely well and it is obvious that all the staff have taken the time to get to know each of the residents. We as a family have always been made to feel welcome during visits. During Mum's final days, the staff treated both Mum and our family with the utmost care, respect, dignity and sincerity and a couple even attended her funeral.
My dear mum stayed here for twenty months. She was treated with the greatest love and care possible by the very hard-working staff. On numerous visits, I found everyone welcoming to us and supportive towards residents. Their dedication and devotion under sometimes challenging situations (Covid regulations, staff recruitment issues) are to be respected. Mount Vale Care Home was clean, light and airy and there were activities when possible.- again impacted by Covid/ staffing issues. Mum loved to walk in the garden every day, weather permitting and this was facilitated. I have visited family and friends in ten care homes over the years and Mount Vale Care Home consistently stands out as the best by far. During Mum's last days, all the staff again were exemplary and treated Mum with the greatest kindness and respect, which in turn, made this time more bearable for my daughter who has a very special bond with her grandma, my family and myself. Thank you.
