Thank you so much
My Dad has been a resident at Abercorn for several months now. I live in England so have only been able to visit a few times, however my Mum visits daily. I know Rowena (the manager) from old, and I am not just saying this - she is such a genuine and caring nurse - she always wants rhe best for her staff and most importantly her residents. My Dad's room is small, however he has enough space to live comfortably. The staff are very attentive, and I cannot fault Rowell or Von for the activities - my Dad (and Mum) loves a lunch out! He was admitted to Abercorn with a pressure injury to his bottom and his heel, which have now healed thanks to Rowena and her Team! I am looking forward to Visiting Dad in December and going out for some lunch with him and Mum! Thank you Rowena and your team in Strathmore unit.
The care given by the staff is exemplary. One occasion recently, however, I believe merited further comment. A relatively new carer was attending to a resident who had fallen. The carer was on her own in the lounge at the time. As I approached, I saw the carer realise my husband was trying to stand up (he is a falls risk). She took the decisive action to rush to my husband's aid. When I thanked her, her response was "the one who had fallen was safe on the floor and so I needed to attend to the other" In my opinion, she showed excellent awareness and decision making, and she is a welcome addition to an already good team.
Very happy with the level of service. The office staff were extremely helpful during the initial setup for my parent. The nursing staff have been outstanding in caring for my mum. Regular updates on caring needs via phone calls by the nursing team are very reassuring.
My sister moved into Abercorn House on the 26th of November 2024. she had spent 15 weeks in hospital, not allowed out of bed. The staff now walk her with help to the toilet, dining room, she sits in the dining room and feeds herself. She has been to the pantomime, has been shopping. I am allowed to take her to church and to her hairdresser. It is the best she has been for years.
Putting my husband into care because of advanced dementia was a very traumatic time for our family and me. My only contact with residential care was many years ago, visiting an elderly neighbour in a home. However, my fears were groundless. From the beginning, he was treated with kindness, dignity, patience and good humour. The staff are always pleasant and helpful. They do a job which I could never do. Abercorn House is clean, very warm and comfortable and the food looks appetising and nutritious. Dementia is a terrible affliction, however, I know that my husband is getting the best of care.
I was my friend's primary carer for decades. She has a progressive neurological condition and unfortunately, it became very difficult to care for her at home. This was compounded by a dire lack of community care and myself becoming ill. However, after a month in temporary care, she was accepted and transferred to her permanent placement in Abercorn House. She receives high-quality care and prompt medical attention as required. The manager, assistant manager and all staff present as being kind and approachable. The care home has a very pleasant atmosphere. My experience with staff has been extremely positive. They present as being friendly, helpful and competent. I would have no hesitation in recommending Abercorn House to others.
My aunt went straight from the hospital to Abercorn House Care Home and was very well looked after from the start she has settled in very well and enjoys going on outings as she wasn't able to do this at home. I live down south and I phone every 2 days to talk to my aunt and have never had any issues. The staff are lovely and friendly and my aunt likes to have a laugh with them. Overall I am very pleased with the care my aunt gets and when I visit it has a homely feel.
The staff are excellent and can't do enough for you. It is very clean, with excellent menu choices. Always a friendly atmosphere.

The chefs are outstanding with the wonderful cuisine they provide, more like a hotel, they are just the best. I feel so thankful as my Mum gets the best care and attention, love, respect, dignity, and kindness. The nursing staff are magnificent and outstanding and can't thank them enough for all they do too. Activities Coordinators work and plan such wonderful daily activities, outside day trips, and anything to make the Residents happy. I know my Mum is so well looked after and best for her needs thank you so much.

We have been treated really well during the time our brother has been very unwell the staff have been very kind and considerate we appreciate this very much. Thanks to all the staff in Abercorn you are a great team.
We are so happy with Abercorn House, and the staff go above and beyond with the residents. The staff always seem happy at work, and we've never noticed any agency staff there, which we feel is a good sign. We are so pleased that we chose Abercorn. Dad seems happy too.
The reason I chose Abercorn House Care Home was the size and the amount of residents in the home. It's not too busy which suits my mother's needs. The staff are very friendly, and approachable and put my mum at ease. My mother enjoys the company of the staff, the entertainment and activities suit her needs as she is a sociable person. Very pleased with my decision for my mother to live here.
The level of care given to Mum is second to none. The staff are a tour de force when it comes to looking after their residents. Communication is excellent. No matter when I go, Mum looks well-dressed and cared for. She is treated with love and respect.
Staff are very attentive, nothing is a problem, there are plenty of activities planned each week for the residents and residents are encouraged to be involved. There are plenty of options on mealtime menus for all tastes.
Very pleased with the care my mum receives in Abercorn House Care Home. The carers are professional, conscientious and caring, they respond positively to all enquiries made. All staff are excellent. The sensory room is a great idea, new kitchen, wall painting, new furnishings. Work in progress. The only concern is that the car park be upgraded.
A lovely place for Dad to reside. The staff are friendly and professional, always available and helpful. There is a really vibrant and active atmosphere around the place, mainly driven by the wonderful activities staff. The residents are well looked after in care and entertainment. The rooms are spacious and kept clean. Overall we are very satisfied with Dad's care and he has improved immensely since he has been here.
My dad has been in the home for over 12 years. The care the staff provide is exceptional and any issues I have had and raised have been dealt with swiftly and a resolution has been found. The care manager is approachable and also very accommodating with any requests we have made. Five stars from me.
The care has declined since COVID and is taking a long time to recover. My mum never gets a visit from the home manager which she did in the past. The cleanliness of her room needs to be improved, the bed is not made properly, tea cups, dinner dishes are left for hours. Dirty pads lying on the toilet floor, the carpet was not hoovered and the curtains were opened unevenly. Her mobility is decreasing and I feel she’s just being left on her own and not given enough physio. She has fallen a few times and lay on the floor for too long and I don’t feel staff take it seriously enough. My mum needs a female career to help with hygiene etc. An instant two weeks ago when my mum didn’t get a bath as there wasn’t enough female staff. That needs managed better and my mum also doesn’t need to be told by the nurse that her daughter reported them for not bathing her. There are a few carers who are excellent and my mum speaks very highly of them but with the size of the home and volume of staff they should all be excellent.
