View Full Details of Holyrood HouseMy mum came to Holyrood House after several weeks in hospital. She was poorly throughout her stay, often agitated and regularly falling. The staff on the 1st floor were patient and kind towards her without exception. After a very short time it felt like the staff knew my mum and they seemed to like her and they understood her needs. They adapted her bed and room to ensure she was safe and comfortable. When she was at the stage of end of life care they were very attentive and sensitive. The staff at Holyrood are heroes to me and should be paid a professional salary that acknowledges their skills in managing the complex needs of the elderly, sick and dying.
I cannot speak more highly of everyone on the staff at Holyrood, for the excellent, caring kind and considerate care they gave to my brother and our family. This wonderful team are a credit to their profession and a marvellous asset to the surrounding community of Knottingley. On behalf of my entire family thank you all from the bottom of our hearts.
Mum felt safe and well looked after. Staff were brilliant, she wished she could have stayed. Family would like to thank you all for her care. Regards
My friend moved in here 2 years ago, and I must admit I didn't think she would like it, but with the friendliness of the staff, she really enjoyed her time in the home.
The home is very well kept. Staff are amazing with lots of empathy. The care received is 100%. Well done, all you carers and management, keep up the good work. I would recommend Holyrood House to anyone looking for a home to home environment.
Thank you for looking after my mum and dad. They both passed away in April, but the staff were absolutely amazing. They all became very good friends, including some residents.
My mum & dad were both residents in Holyrood for just over 10 months. But sadly passed away. The way we were treated was amazing. My patents were looked after perfectly to the end. Since then, we have still been treated like best friends. It has helped us come to terms with our loss. The staff are all brilliant & amazing.
My dad stayed at Holyrood from April to July 2025 and we were very impressed, particularly with the office staff and the staff who took care of him. They are amazing, kind people who cared for him, and even took him out for a day trip. They chatted with him, made him cups of tea whenever they saw him and our family are extremely grateful to them. Its always a worrying time when a family member needs care away from the home but they put our minds at rest quickly. thank you
I make no apologies for the length of this review. When did could no longer manage physically at home he went to live at Holyrood House, the staff from the start were amazing - kind and lovely and after an initial adjustment period did settled in and Holyrood became his home. He enjoyed the company, toddling down to the lovely dining room where he had a window seat and say with another chap of similar age. The staff, although busy, always took time to say hello to him and make a fuss, and he in turn had flourished under their love and care. He put on weight and looked better than he had since mum died 5 years earlier .and we knew he was safe from harm there. The regular staff really are a happy and caring family for the residents, there is sometimes a need for agency staff, who may be perfectly fine but dad likes the regular staff best as they knew him.His room was lovely - bright and spacious. Dad died just after he he'd had a fuss made for his 88th birthday - surrounded in love.
Holyrood House is a caring and welcoming place to be. The residents are happy and settled the staff go above and beyond. My mum is happy and content here, and I have no concerns for her welfare at all.
Both my Grandma and Grandad were residents in Holyrood for 10 months. Unfortunately both passed away in April 2025, but the care they were given was excellent especially at the end of their life. They were both on the Dementia ward, the staff were very caring and treated them like family. We couldn't praise them enough. Thank you for looking after them so well.
The staff at Holyrood can't do enough for the residents here. There is such a genuine care for everyone they look after, something I'd never seen before in other homes. The residents adore the staff and you can see how much this impacts their quality of life. The carers go above and beyond to completely understand the needs of the residents (not just medical) but social and even their sense of humour. The enrichment activities they organise are always fantastic, rooms and social areas are immaculate and the food is fantastic. Particularly if your relative suffers from dementia I would highly recommend this fantastic home.
I have a friend, that is having a short stay here for a while, and I would like to have my say, and thank you so much for caring for my friend!
Visited my uncle on Tues 25th February He had been in Holyrood for 3 years He is settled happy and well looked after The staff are amazing brilliant at their job look after all the residents with so much care Admin staff friendly and so helpful the manager is helpful friendly to all residents and staff always happy to help with any thing you need to discuss with het she is a brilliant manager Thank you all so much for keeping my uncle so settled and happy
The staff have been amazing, from the management team to the care team, and have made what has been a very difficult decision for our family, to have my grandma move into a permanent residency here at Holyrood as easily and as smoothly as possible. At every stage, they have met our concerns with an understanding and empathy and especially towards my grandma who is the most important person to us. I would like to recognise 2 individuals on my grans level, they have been wonderful and have helped settle my grandma in so well, they are an asset to your team. The management and admin team have also been great towards us helping manage our feelings and worries whilst my grandma has been settling in, especially the assistant manager, by reassuring me and always there to help with this difficult transition.
I find the home satisfactory, but cleanliness could be improved, especially in residents rooms, stained sink and toilet. Also in need of decoration and curtains washing. Food is up and down, sometimes really good and then can be very poor. I presume this is due to staffing. Portion size is small, more fresh vegetables is needed, most of it is tinned. Entertainment is good, but same people go, they don't try to get others to go and when they do, it's last minute. I think staff should try to encourage residents to participate.
I feel my mums needs are met here. Thank you Holyrood House for looking after her. Staff are very caring, although she doesn't participate due to her Parkinson's there are plenty of activity's for clients.
The residence appeared a happy place for its residents, all staff attentive, very helpful and willing to assist. In being present on average for over a hour, my friend was much on her own, happy to be so but on occasions sat in the communal area that allowed her to be in company and have a friendly talk. Cleanliness was of an acceptable nature, at times some dust/debris was noticed under/near the bed and on the floor. I cannot specifically comment on food other to to say I witnessed a small choice being offered which was satisfactory to my friend. Office staff were always helpful but unavailable to talk to at weekends which was a little inconvenient. On an alarm call (e.g. pressure mat activated) staff did respond quickly. The rooms were appointed of a basic nature that was fit for purpose. It is regrettable that some clothing was lost. Overall, a pleasant place to be that catered for my friend's needs, having now left has stated she would be happy to return.
All staff seem to be very caring, especially maintenance men and cleaners. All rooms are spacious and clean. If my mum is not well she mentions it to a carer and is then seen by the nurse from the nearby doctors who calls regularly and any prescription is got quickly. They seem to have a good system for giving out medication at the correct time and dose. Activities are well thought out and are suited to most needs. There is always a good choice of food at meal times and the kitchen will try their best to sort something out if there is a problem.
Even at 85 years old and raised in a family of 3 daughters, I recognise I am not easy to help. Having been like all, independent for those years. However, the young lady assistor who brightens my life with her bright smile and willingness to assist immediately there is a call (from either resident or colleague) and often without provocation, I have recently learned her name. She is crammed with good intentions, in what could become a difficult situation in the hands of others, less observant. Where she gets the all power wish to jump to it, wherever she is stationed brings awe to the beholder.
