My son went to this day centre for years. Pros - excellent staff. From the friendly administrator to the support workers who are friendly and efficient in their jobs. Cons - management can do with improvement. My son went to 2 day centres at the same time, another agency who managed to provide my
son with 1 - 1 support and provided the same service as the rest of the service users. However, Academy House did not manage to achieve this. They could not manage without 2 - 1 support and he had a shorter day than some of the service users. I never worked out why. Support workers can benefit from additional training to help the service users reach their full potential. I felt as if the more communication a service user had, the better service they received. The more able service users had longer hours at the centre and seemed to be more out and about in the community. Future goals should include providing similar support to all service users regardless of their disability.
