St Cross Grange Care Home, 140 St Cross Road, Winchester, SO23 9RJ
View Full Details of St Cross Grange Care HomeHaving spent four weeks in hospital it was an absolute joy to come to St Cross Grane. It felt like coming home to family. Everyone was so welcoming and friendly.
From the moment we walked through the door, we were greeted with smiles, help and care. All departments go above and beyond to make St Cross Grange feel like home. My husband and I came here for a short break and were so happy we extended it for two extra weeks.
We originally booked my mother into St. Cross for respite a year ago while we were on holiday, she really enjoyed the company and security so much, that she asked if she could stay! Which came as a welcome surprise to me and the family. She still enjoys a certain amount of independence, choosing what and where she eats, what activities she takes part in etc. There's always a warm and friendly welcome from all of the staff when we visit and I'm pleased to say mum is still very happy a year on. All credit to the staff and management at St Cross Grange.
My Dad was a resident for 6 months and was receiving end of life care. I visited approximately 30 homes in the process of finding somewhere for both of my parents, so I have a good idea of what's available. I have direct experience of another care home in Winchester, and the contrast is stark. St Cross is beautifully decorated and has zero atmosphere . Housekeeping and carers are wonderful. Reception ignore your arrival more often than they look up and say hello. The food sounds great on paper, but is overcooked. More specifically it did not meet my Dad's needs. The team appeared to be doing something about it only for me to have to repeat the same conversation mutliple times. The leadership and lack of focus is what lets this place down, and the utter lack of empathy. Within an hour of being told of my Dad's death the nurse was chasing me about funeral plans at the direction of the General Manager. Incredibly insensitive treatment and I would not recommend this for your loved ones.
Staff are polite. The food is excellent with a brilliant chef. I have enjoyed my short stay.
My mum came to St Cross Grange for end of life care. The admission process was straightforward and arranged promptly. She was made to feel at home immediately. Both my mum and her many visitors enjoyed the welcoming and calm atmosphere that prevails throughout the home. She felt very well cared for, day and night ( night time cups of tea were very welcome!)She loved the food and the staff who took such trouble preparing it for residents. The catering staff also went out of their way to accommodate the dietary requirements of her visitors. The turn around time for laundry amazed her-usually returned the same day, and always with a smile and a chat from the domestic staff. She felt safe in the knowledge that when medical problems arose appropriate advice was sort and acted upon promptly. As family we too were made to feel welcome and part of the St Cross Grange community. I know my mum would have no hesitation in recommending this home.
The staff whether care staff, nurses, cleaners, catering staff and management are kind, caring, helpful and very understanding of my husband's deteriorating condition. They are also very considerate of my position as a wife and look after my interests as well. Since new management took over the home has become a happy place for residents and families.
The improvement in Dad has been amazing since his arrival from hospital last year. The manager and her staff are always so professional & attentive. Nothing is too much trouble and they always go above & beyond with the care of our father.
I visited a number of care homes over a period of time before my wife came into St Cross, initially for respite care at the end of May, but has recently become a resident. The home was extensively refitted last year and reopened in August, and looks and feels like a high-quality hotel. But it is the care that is important, and I am very happy and reassured that she is in good hands. Management and staff are all really empathetic, proactive and supportive. For example, I get an unsolicited update on how my wife is on the day, the moment I walk into reception. There is a family atmosphere within the home - across, residents, their family members and staff. Although it is early days, I feel confident she is in the right place.
They did a wonderful job looking after my father. Excellent, truly caring staff and a lovely quiet place. Always kept clean and tidy and reassuring to visitors. It made a very difficult time easier; thank you.
My mother initially came to St Cross for respite care but is very happy and content and is now a permanent resident. She feels very well cared for, she enjoys the food, loves the fact her washing is done, she really likes the staff and also enjoys the company of others. From her family's point of view, the whole experience at St Cross has been exemplary. We can visit at any time (and do!) and everyone is welcoming and helpful. Communications have been excellent and it has been a weight off our minds to know my mother is safe; she has improved immeasurably since living at St Cross in all respects, physically & mentally. We would recommend St Cross to anyone seeking care for themselves or a relative.
After a few initial teething troubles this home has turned into just that- a lively, comfortable home from home. The staff are truly amazing, the facilities and activities really outstanding. The general ambiance is kind, supportive and comfortable.
Excellent all round, no complaints at all. My mum is very happy and well looked after by everyone.
Always very well received at reception. The whole establishment is magnificent, particularly in terms of furnishing. Overall presentation, cleanliness and facilities, very attentive, delightful and caring staff.
My husband has been at The Grange for several months and has settled in very well. He is very well looked after and cared for. Lovely care team. The ship is being well "steered" by its new captain. Thank you!
The staff and care they give my mother is second to none. She is treated with kindness, and respect and given every opportunity to be in control of her care and life at St Cross. The nursing care has been excellent and she is in far better health, (dealing with numerous physical problems) since she has been at St Cross. The rooms, dining area, and surroundings are beautifully kept, a calm and relaxing environment to live in. With her physical problems, the one thing my mother can enjoy in life is her food, and she has been thrilled with the meals, not one complaint! Delicious meals, with loads of choices and variations. I can finally relax in the knowledge my mum is in a safe, caring, and happy environment. Huge thanks and appreciation to all the fabulous staff.
My mother went to St Cross Grange for respite after a fall at home. She is 95 and living alone has been increasingly difficult for her. After 3 weeks in respite, mum has decided she would like to live at St Cross permanently. When I asked her, are you sure, she replied, I feel safe, cared for and they like me here. I'm no longer lonely. The food is delicious. I am more active and I've made friends. This is my life now. My brother and I are so happy. Thank you to all the staff at St Cross Grange!
My father is extremely well looked after. The staff are amazing and are always very welcoming when we visit.
We moved our Mother to The Grange in mid-June for a month of respite care. From the moment we arrived we have been welcomed and every request has been fulfilled. The staff, from management to the 24-hour nursing, carers, activities, domestic and cleaning, are all wonderful and have made an effort to get to know our Mother. They always have time for her, are warm and very caring, and always do something extra that makes a difference. The food served is excellent, always cooked fresh, and different for each meal and each day. Even the cakes are homemade. Having undergone a thorough refurbishment the facilities and feel of the place are top-notch. The activities offered keep our Mother stimulated and happy. After a few weeks we decided to keep our Mother here permanently, so satisfied the family is with all aspects of her care. She has blossomed, and we are confident, however conflicting it can be moving to a care home, that The Grange will be looking after her very well.
