My mum recently stayed at The Downes for 2 weeks. We were impressed by the effort made by the manager and staff to get to know Mum and understand her needs prior to her visit. There appeared to be lots of staff, all of whom seemed very attentive, warm and friendly. There seemed to be lots of activities available, including a weekly programme. There was good communication from staff, keeping us updated on Mum's settling and progress.
From the first moment I entered the building 17 months ago it had such a homely feel. The staff treat the residents with respect and kindness. Nothing is too much trouble and I sleep easy knowing my partner is safe and has dignity.
My husband came to the Downes in July 2024. In all that time, I have experienced great kindness towards my husband and myself - nothing is too much trouble, and each time I visit, everyone has been most helpful. The meals are very good - lots of variety - I was welcomed to share and excellent Christmas lunch with my husband, and this made what could have been a very lonely time into a positive and special occasion (this being the first time in 60 years we have lived apart) His room is really lovely, everything is kept spotlessly clean and tidy, in fact I am extremely grateful that he can live there at the Downes, looked after by very loving and caring staff.
The staff are always friendly, nothing is too much trouble. The home is always clean and tidy. Amazing outside area.
My Aunty has thrived in The Downs, trips out, baking, art and lots more. The staff are all lovely and caring and the food is wonderful. The Downs is set in beautiful grounds and even a simple trip around the gardens is most enjoyable.
Mum blossomed in The Downes. She loved the activities, the company and the positive attitude of the staff. In the afternoons she was always to be found in the lounge, sitting amongst her friends. Everyone was kind and compassionate and she appreciated the care that she received. Whilst she was there she told me that she wasn't lonely any more and that she was happy. The Downes has a wonderful, relaxed atmosphere and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to anyone seeking care for their loved ones.
My mum moved into The Downes in November, she's been happy and the staff couldn't have been better. She's now at end of life and the care has been more than we could ask for.
Very positive experience, the staff were all helpful and the care was superb. Mum had to be admitted as an emergency after a fall and both the manager and the care staff stepped up to the mark. I would not hesitate to recommend The Downes.
Compassionate intelligent care. My father has blossomed and come back to life since being at The Downes. Dignity, respect and acceptance of individuality are at the core of their practice. The home is a home. It's bright, smiling and filled with laughter. The care team are exceptional and management has a deep understanding of how honorable it is to reach this point in life.
The building is imposing but it is not a fortress. When you ring the doorbell, someone always comes to let you in. The staff are always visible, helpful and often fully involved with the residents. The manager's door is invariably open and in a key position and the dogs also can see everything that is going on. The gardens! Where to start? Are simply amazing and kept beautifully, especially the lawns. I visit frequently and my mother has blossomed during her time there. The is always a sense of peace, order and understanding. It is a stress-free environment in a stressful world.
I greatly appreciate the effort taken by the care staff in rehabilitating my mother as she slowly recovers from a recent illness. Activities (rated satisfactory) have, of course, been curtailed during the past two years because of the pandemic.
Wonderful place. Feels like home - not a home. Staff helpful and attentive. Could not ask for better care.
The best care at all times. Everybody happy with a smile to share. A lot of people happy in their work. It sounds too gushing, but it's all true. A good second home for anyone. Never a dull moment. One happy person.
I have always been given great kindness by everyone and would recommend to anyone looking for a home.
Although my mother only moved here five weeks ago, she was treated with great care and respect, and we greatly appreciated the time and support given to us all during her end of life care. We only wish she could have experienced more of this lovely home. Many thanks to all the staff.
I find the nursing here is a very good standard. They are always very helpful with everything you ask them. Nothing is too much for them.
I am so pleased that when Mum had a fall and broke her hip and shoulder; that she was sent to The Downes when she came out of the hospital. Thankfully there was a space, so Mum was allowed to stay there after her recovery. I really feel that Mum is making a full recovery and she is bright and more bubbly when we ring her or get to see her. We are all looking forward to seeing her again soon once this awful Covid is back under control. The staff are great and always helpful, nothing is too much trouble. If you need a well-run care home for your loved one, I would recommend you try and get them into The Downes.
We have found all the staff and managers at The Downes to be extremely caring. They care for relatives as well as residents making the transition to a care home as pain-free as possible. As well as physical care they try to provide a variety of activities inside and outside to care for residents wellbeing.
I have found in the 2 years my mum has been there the care has been of a high standard with attentive staff and management. During Lockdown skype was put in place very quickly which has been a godsend. On the whole and excellent care home.
The home is spotless. The staff are very caring. My aunt is very happy there. I have no worries.
