We visited Anne today. The staff were kind and caring and went out of their way to find me a chair. Anne's room was cleaned and tidy. Anne is very content here and we are happy with her care.
I am very happy with the care Nan is recieving, she is happy and settled and looks so well and healthy considering she has dementia.
Care homes get a lot of negativity but my experience of the Hawthorns care home, has been superb. My Father was admitted, with vascular dementia, in July 2024. From the minute he arrived the management and entire staff, put our mind at ease that we had made the correct choice. The Team showed empathy, compassion, humour and patience with my Dad but were equally respectful can thoroughly caring throughout. My Dad passed away this month. The care the team showed to my Dad and myself was immeasurable and I will be forever grateful. Thank you to the entire team at the Hawthorns for what you did for my dear Dad and for looking out for me and my family also. Steve
My father was only at Hawthorns for seven weeks but in that short time we saw the exemplary care you have for every resident. Your staff are all so warm, welcoming, and full of compassion. My father was treated with dignity and all our family were welcomed, usually with a cup of tea too. Your staff are quick to respond to all requests and full of smiles too, you made a very difficult time, easier to bear. We always knew Dad was safe with you, you answered our questions immediately and with kindness. Thank you so much.
Id like people to know the dedication to care the staff showed my loved one, was second to none. Nothing was to much trouble, and everyone i spoke to was so kind and caring. Thank you so much for all the support and all your empathy and care your kind staff showed.
I found the care home to be most welcoming, not only to the resident, but also their family and friends as well. They always try to be supportive to both the resident and family. I don't claim to say they are perfect, what is, but above all else they are very caring. Once you walk through the doors of The Hawthorns, you become part of one big family. I am convinced the home provided my relative with 2 extra happy years than she would have had
When The Hawthorns was suggested as a home for Mum, I had my doubts. However the hospital staff suggested I visit the home and talk with the manager, who was very welcoming, talked through my concerns and showed me round the home. I felt so much happier for Mum to move to The Hawthorns, having made the visit. My overall impression is that there are lots of staff - I never felt I was wandering the corridors looking for someone to ask questions or talk to, and they were unfailingly cheerful and positive. Mum spent 5 months at The Hawthorns, sadly passing away recently, but the care, patience, love and respect all the staff gave her was exemplary. She was consistently treated with great dignity and it made all the difference. The end-of-life care was gentle and supportive, both for Mum and for us - and we were able to stay with her for her final few days, which means the world. I cannot begin to thank the staff enough for the care they gave Mum at this difficult stage of her life.
When we were given The Hawthorns care/nursing home for my husband we were not happy as had been told not to go there. My Admiral nurse suggested myself & family just turn up to view the home. The Manager welcomed us into his office and we chatted about my husbands needs then shown the room he would be using , we immediately felt good about the home. My husband spent 4 months in the home and I cannot speak highly enough on the care and kindness given to him. My husband sadly passed away in the home and the nursing staff contacted us at midnight to say that he was poorly , we sat with him while the staff brought in recliner chairs for our comfort offering refreshments. The entertainment is first class including at Easter when they had 5 duck eggs which hatched and then brought into each room in the incubator for residents to see the ducklings All the staff in this home should be really proud of the way they look after the residents who can be very difficult due to their dementia
Finding the right home for your mother can be very daunting as you want the very best for your loved one. All I can say we as a family have made the right decision. The manager and the staff from day one have been wonderful helping her settle into her new home and addressing mum's needs. Mum has advanced dementia but the staff continue to involve her in her care, activities and choices. We as a family are always made to feel welcome and able to discuss any concerns. The Hawthorns is a friendly, caring and a very clean environment. There is a fantastic entertainment team encouraging residents to participate in activities, listening to live music and organising tea and coffee mornings. There is always staff present to support residents and from observation the food always looks good and different choices available. I cannot say how pleased we are to have found the Hawthorns.
Sadly, my mum passed away two weeks ago (at Hawthorns) having lived there for the last 4 years. Mum had dementia and I found choosing a care home for her, incredibly stressful, as I had no experience of the care system and you hear so much, in the media, that is negative. I need not have worried. Hawthorns soon became our second home and the staff, our extended family. Mum was happy there and she was cared for with kindness and compassion. As a family, we have so many wonderful, precious, memories of Mum's time at Hawthorns. The manager's door was always open and if we ever had any concerns (rarely!) we could always speak to him, or his team. During the last few days of Mum's life, the manager, his deputy and the staff could not have been kinder. Mum was treated with dignity and such incredible care and, as a family, we felt loved and supported, as the team gently guided us through those last few days. We will be forever thankful to them all.
My nan sadly passed away yesterday. Since COVID she had been suffering from dementia, had been in homes ever since and particularly spent her final years at The Hawthorns. I've questioned over the years what sort of life or living it is to be stuck in a home and never leave but The Hawthorns and all its staff have thankfully made this seem OK. They have taken such phenomenal care of not just Nan but of all of our family the entire time. Nan was treated with such dignity and care, we felt like everyone at The Hawthorns had taken the time to get to know her and were clearly very fond of her. Every one of my family, from my parents down to our youngest children, was always made to feel extremely welcome and every member of staff has grown to feel like an extended family. This last week has been incredibly tough but the compassion and hospitality that we were shown made it all so much easier to deal with. I couldn't thank the staff highly enough and will miss them all dearly. Thank you.
My wife has been a resident in Hawthorne Care Home for approximately 6 months with dementia, her condition started approximately seven years ago but with the pandemic it worsened so unfortunately she had to be admitted to a care /nursing home. The staff have to put up with many challenges and they cope very well with my wife's. The care she receives from the staff is excellent, her communication is very difficult to understand but with the professionalism of the caring staff they manage very well. I find the management very professional, understanding, friendly and very obliging in any information you ask them. I as her husband don't like to see my wife in care but with the wonderful care, attention, and dignity that is provided by the whole of the staff I know that I have made the right choice.
My sister was very disturbed when she moved to The Hawthorns, by a hospital stay, and then coming to a new place. Her mental state made it difficult for her to be trusting, and she, at first, refused food, drink, and medications, and was unkind to staff. The staff have taken her fears and preferences on board and gradually gained her trust. Their patience is unending, and they know when to cajole and when to let her simmer down. Nursing my sister can't have been easy for them, and sometimes it must have been very concerning. Their liaison with the local GP is particularly good, as is their attention to her day-to-day health. In the last three weeks, she has calmed down amazingly. She is eating and drinking and accepting her meds. She is interacting well with staff, and taking much more interest in life, people, and events. Her paranoia has reduced massively. She was appreciative when lent a CD player (likes classical music), and a screen on which she can watch wildlife programmes.
My mum came to Hawthorns with significantly advanced dementia a bit over 4 years ago. Her condition has presented many challenges, she has been through the pandemic and seen staff and managers come and go, but the compassion and thoughtfulness of the care she has received from all over her time has been as consistent as I could have hoped for. Quality of her care was my first priority and as her son and attorney, I've found the friendliness, understanding of her condition and communication of all staff, particularly the nurses and attending GP and other medical professionals, resident-centred and excellent. I have never felt concern for my mum's safety, comfort or dignity and have always been able to talk with someone when I've needed to. Let's be clear nobody wants to find their loved ones with illness or other considerations that require the service they provide at Hawthorns despite their professionalism, but in the event, I can say I'm glad my mum was in their care until the end.
Dad arrived at Hawthorns after spending 5 weeks in hospital. The transition went well and I was kept updated with timings and days etc. Dad has a ground-floor room which is large and airy, we took his chair and a few extras to make him feel home from home. The staff from management, activity nurses and care team are all welcoming and approachable. I've been kept informed of everything that goes on behind the scenes too, which is a comfort to my family. The stress we all felt has definitely been lifted, especially for my mum who was caring for Dad. Dad always looks clean and well-dressed, and I feel his needs are being met. Staff go above and beyond keeping him safe, well and happy!
My mother came to the home in 2018 and was looked after beautifully the whole time she was living there. I found the home to be well run from the top down and the carers were kind and empathetic and treated Mum with dignity always. Nothing was ever too much trouble, if I had a concern it was acted upon swiftly and all the staff were very approachable. I never worried about Mum being in their care. They supported me too as it became difficult to see Mum deteriorate. They are wonderful, well trained carers and perform the most vital work at the end of a person's life. I thank them from my heart and would recommend this home for anyone thinking of placing their loved one into care.
My father moved into the care home on 8th July with some trepidation, however his worries were soon put aside. All the staff come to introduce themselves and welcome him the staff are friendly and cannot do enough for the people there. The choice of food on offer is very good and offer drinks throughout the day. Prior to moving into the home, we had several discussions with the Manager who was so kind and understanding, he let us get the room ready for my father prior to his arrival so my father had his own things around him which helped him settle. The manager and his staff could not be more caring, helpful and compassionate. This is a lovely care home with good-sized rooms and lovely residential and dining rooms. I would recommend this to anyone wanting care for a loved one as you can be assured they will be well looked after and cared for.
My dad came to Hawthorns in December 2023. He had Dementia and he took a little while to settle in. The staff are fantastic, always there to help residents and visitors. Dad was well looked after, they were always around if you needed help and always let our mum know any information that occurred. The entertainment people always made sure that the residents are stimulated and busy.
My mother-in-law has been at Hawthorns for quite a while now. The staff are very attentive to the residents, they look after them very well and are always happy to help. The Entertainment team try and keep the residents stimulated with varied activities and concerts. They also make a point of celebrating important days of the year including birthdays. They have some great coffee mornings too when residents, family and staff get together. The Management team are always available if required and very approachable. They take time to speak to the residents and it shows they know their individual personalities and needs. Any issues are also quickly resolved professionally. They always make us feel very welcome and update us on how she has been that day. We feel happy she is looked after when we are not there which is our main concern.
