Staff are always welcoming, friendly and accomodating. Brother recently had to go to hospital, where he was treated appallingly. After one week of returning to the Hawthorns, he was back to his normal self prior to his hospital stay.

Mum has settled into Hawthorns well. The room is light and airey with a view through trees to outside. It is clean, warm and cozy. The staff are delightful and go above and beyond to look after mum and get to know her. They all know mum by name which makes it friendly and homely.

Since dad moved in to Hawthorns he has been looked after very well. The carers get to know how dad responds to what they want him to do and know how to get him to do things without being distressing for him. The food is excellent, the home is clean and all staff are very friendly and keep you updated
on Dad's health if needed when we're not there.
Reply from Mawuli Mensa, Home Manager at The Hawthorns Care HomeThank you so much for your kind feedback. Were really pleased to hear your dad is settling in well and that our teams care, communication, and support are making a positive difference. Your words mean a lot to us.

I believe The Hawthorns to be the best place for my mother who has dementia. The staff always treat her with respect and encourage my mother to meet her activities of daily living eg. encourage eating, drinking and supporting her with dementia.
Reply from Mawuli Mensa, Home Manager at The Hawthorns Care HomeThank you for your kind feedback. We are very pleased to hear that your mother feels well supported at The Hawthorns. Our team is committed to providing respectful, person centred care, and it is wonderful to know that this is reflected in your mother's daily experience. It was hard to find a suitable care home to meet my husband's complex care needs after he fell from a ladder incurring a head injury which led to him spending a year in hospital and NHS rehab. He has been a resident in The Hawthorns for over a year where I find the atmosphere is very friendly and welcoming
and the manager and staff are very approachable and helpful. I have been impressed by the carers abilities in managing my husband's challenging behaviours. It is very reassuring to see him being so well cared for.
Reply from Mawuli Mensa, Home Manager at The Hawthorns Care HomeThank you for sharing your experience. It's our privilege to look after him, and we truly appreciate your kind words.

I think this is an excellent care home. The home is kept very clean. The food is excellent and the menu is varied. Most of the carers are veyr good but some could be more helpful and compassionate. Overall it is a very good home. The one big complaint I have is my brother-in-law's clothing goes missing,
including his soft top socks. Sometimes never to be found again, even though they are all clearly marked with his name and room number.
Reply from Mawuli Mensa, Home Manager at The Hawthorns Care HomeThank you very much for your kind words, i will certainly share this with the team, can i also reassure you your brother inlaw's wife states that there are no missing items.

Mum has been a resident here for 4 years, she had a fall last week and spent 4 nights in hospital, she has dementia and it was very distressing for her being in hospital. When she returned to hawthorns care home she was met by the wonderful manager and immediately smiled at him.
She hadn't smiled for
five days. This meant the world to us as a family as she was finally somewhere where she felt safe. Every single one of the staff at Hawthorns are amazing and do an incredibly tough job with kindness and sensitivity.
We are so very lucky that mum lives there amongst amazing caring people.
Thank you so much for everything you do at Hawthorns...we appreciate you..xxx

Care homes get a lot of negativity but my experience of the Hawthorns care home, has been superb. My Father was admitted, with vascular dementia, in July 2024. From the minute he arrived the management and entire staff, put our mind at ease that we had made the correct choice.
The Team showed empathy,
compassion, humour and patience with my Dad but were equally respectful can thoroughly caring throughout. My Dad passed away this month. The care the team showed to my Dad and myself was immeasurable and I will be forever grateful.
Thank you to the entire team at the Hawthorns for what you did for my dear Dad and for looking out for me and my family also.

My father was only at Hawthorns for seven weeks but in that short time we saw the exemplary care you have for every resident. Your staff are all so warm, welcoming, and full of compassion. My father was treated with dignity and all our family were welcomed, usually with a cup of tea too. Your staff
are quick to respond to all requests and full of smiles too, you made a very difficult time, easier to bear. We always knew Dad was safe with you, you answered our questions immediately and with kindness. Thank you so much.

I found the care home to be most welcoming, not only to the resident, but also their family and friends as well. They always try to be supportive to both the resident and family. I don't claim to say they are perfect, what is, but above all else they are very caring. Once you walk through the doors
of The Hawthorns, you become part of one big family. I am convinced the home provided my relative with 2 extra happy years than she would have had

When The Hawthorns was suggested as a home for Mum, I had my doubts. However the hospital staff suggested I visit the home and talk with the manager, who was very welcoming, talked through my concerns and showed me round the home. I felt so much happier for Mum to move to The Hawthorns, having made
the visit.
My overall impression is that there are lots of staff - I never felt I was wandering the corridors looking for someone to ask questions or talk to, and they were unfailingly cheerful and positive.
Mum spent 5 months at The Hawthorns, sadly passing away recently, but the care, patience, love and respect all the staff gave her was exemplary. She was consistently treated with great dignity and it made all the difference.
The end-of-life care was gentle and supportive, both for Mum and for us - and we were able to stay with her for her final few days, which means the world.
I cannot begin to thank the staff enough for the care they gave Mum at this difficult stage of her life.

When we were given The Hawthorns care/nursing home for my husband we were not happy as had been told not to go there. My Admiral nurse suggested myself & family just turn up to view the home. The Manager welcomed us into his office and we chatted about my husbands needs then shown the room he would
be using , we immediately felt good about the home.
My husband spent 4 months in the home and I cannot speak highly enough on the care and kindness given to him.
My husband sadly passed away in the home and the nursing staff contacted us at midnight to say that he was poorly , we sat with him while the staff brought in recliner chairs for our comfort offering refreshments. The entertainment is first class including at Easter when they had 5 duck eggs which hatched and then brought into each room in the incubator for residents to see the ducklings
All the staff in this home should be really proud of the way they look after the residents who can be very difficult due to their dementia

Sadly, my mum passed away two weeks ago (at Hawthorns) having lived there for the last 4 years. Mum had dementia and I found choosing a care home for her, incredibly stressful, as I had no experience of the care system and you hear so much, in the media, that is negative.
I need not have worried. Hawthorns
soon became our second home and the staff, our extended family. Mum was happy there and she was cared for with kindness and compassion. As a family, we have so many wonderful, precious, memories of Mum's time at Hawthorns.
The manager's door was always open and if we ever had any concerns (rarely!) we could always speak to him, or his team.
During the last few days of Mum's life, the manager, his deputy and the staff could not have been kinder. Mum was treated with dignity and such incredible care and, as a family, we felt loved and supported, as the team gently guided us through those last few days.
We will be forever thankful to them all.
Reply from Mawuli Mensa, Home Manager at The Hawthorns Care HomeThank you for your kind words, which I've shared with the team. Your mum was a pleasure to care for, and we're so pleased you were happy with the support she received. Wishing you and your family all the best. Mawuli

My nan sadly passed away yesterday. Since COVID she had been suffering from dementia, had been in homes ever since and particularly spent her final years at The Hawthorns. I've questioned over the years what sort of life or living it is to be stuck in a home and never leave but The Hawthorns and all
its staff have thankfully made this seem OK. They have taken such phenomenal care of not just Nan but of all of our family the entire time. Nan was treated with such dignity and care, we felt like everyone at The Hawthorns had taken the time to get to know her and were clearly very fond of her. Every one of my family, from my parents down to our youngest children, was always made to feel extremely welcome and every member of staff has grown to feel like an extended family. This last week has been incredibly tough but the compassion and hospitality that we were shown made it all so much easier to deal with. I couldn't thank the staff highly enough and will miss them all dearly. Thank you.
Reply from Mawuli, Home Manager at The Hawthorns Care HomeThank you for your kind words. It was a privilege to care for your nan, and we're grateful to have been part of her journey. Your appreciation means a lot to our team, and we send our heartfelt condolences to you and your family.

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.9 (9.864) out of 10 for The Hawthorns Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 28 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 28 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.864 for The Hawthorns Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (283 Excellents x 5) + (38 Goods x 4) + (3 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 324 Ratings = 4.864
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for The Hawthorns Care Home is based on 28 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 74 registered maximum number of service users is 14.8, which has been reached with 28 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
