  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.5 out of 5 from 8 positive Reviews in the last 12 months.

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating of all Reviews over all time. For each review the Care Home / service is rated Excellent, Good, Satisfactory, Poor or Very Poor on a number of areas eg Staff, Management etc. The Care Home receives points for each rating as follows: Excellent = 5. Good = 4. Satisfactory = 3. Poor = 2. Very Poor = 1. These points are added up and then divided by the total number of completed ratings to generate the average rating.

    The Average Rating of 4.542 for The Hawthorns Care Centre is calculated as follows: ( (59 Excellents x 5) + (31 Goods x 4) + (5 Satisfactorys x 3) + (1 Poors x 2) ) ÷ 96 Ratings = 4.542

    2. 1 point is available for reaching a target number of Positive Reviews based on 20% of the number of registered maximum number of service users. If the target is partially reached then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home with 50 registered maximum number of service users has a target of 10 Positive Reviews, if it has 10 or more Positive Reviews it will receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews will receive 0.7 points.

The 4.548 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for The Hawthorns Care Centre is based on 8 positive Reviews in the last 12 months and is calculated as follows:

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

It is now coming up to 2 years since my mother arrived at The Hawthorns. As yet, I have never had a reason to complain, due to the excellent response from management and staff to any concerns that I have.
All family members know that no 2 days are the same but the staff have to react to all eventualities which occur, promptly and with dignity. I visit mum 3 times a week and nearly always leave with a smile on my face. Long may it continue.

Thank you for taking the time to review our care home, all feedback is much appreciated.

My neighbour who was a widow stayed in The Hawthorns for over two years. Usually, I visited her twice a week in the early evening. Parking spaces were always available. The home and her ensuite room were most attractive, modern, clean, comfortable and well equipped. Staff members were invariably kind, caring and polite to visitors. I would certainly recommend this home to friends.

Many thanks for taking the time to review our home. Your comments will be cascaded to the staff team

The manager was extremely supportive when dad came a resident in August 2015. His Dementia had worsened and his care home at the time could no longer meet his needs.
Dad would become physically aggressive around personal care so the manager organised training so that staff knew how to cope with dad.
She also arranged for the doctor to prescribe appropriate medication.
Dad is very happy here and I am happy that he receives the care he needs. If there are problems (nowhere is perfect) they are taken seriously and dealt with speedily.

I am most impressed by the attitude of the staff. Yes, very professional but very informal and smiling application of their relationship with the patients.

Many thanks for taking the time to review our Home. The feedback is much appreciated and I will inform the staff team.

In general, I have found that the care that my mother has received has been excellent. All aspects of her care have been given with kindness and dignity. The meals are always nutritional and any request is catered for. The daily activities are always varied and every effort is made to make the experiences enjoyable and not condescending. Any medical problems are dealt with immediately. I have no worries about my mother's care. When I leave after a visit I can do so knowing that she is safe and well cared for.

Thank you for your comments. I will cascade to the team.

After 2 years at The Hawthorns, the consistently high standard of care and facilities has seen my mother’s anxious nature replaced with confidence. She looks better now than she did before she moved to The Hawthorns. Moreover, I benefit from the assurance of The Hawthorns close monitoring and reporting, and the knowledge that each health event that occurs is dealt with efficiency and kindness. The Home has become our second family and my mother enjoys all the comings and goings from the laundry, maintenance, activities, cleaning, doctor visits, cook visits, chiropody as well as the essential care – these are all done on a personal basis as each individual has got to know Mum. My mother's room has her pictures and small pieces of furniture from her home. She enjoys a spacious ensuite shower room and a high-quality adjustable bed. I cannot praise this purpose built home highly enough.

Thank you for your review. I will ensure your comments are cascaded to the staff team.

Mum is mostly happy with the service provided however there are two areas she is not happy with. The first is the quality of the food. We have complained on a number of occasions, the other is with regards to male carers. We have requested female carers only as mum does not want male carers helping with her personal hygiene/toileting needs. However, there have been occasions when male agency staff have been attending to her which makes her quite upset.

Jo Cuddy, Manager at The Hawthorns Care Centre responded to this review on 27 Feb 2017:

Thank you for your review, over the last 2 years your mum became a much loved and important part of our community. When a resident expresses preferences we endeavour to meet these. I am sorry on these occasions we didn’t. We do and will continue to act on any concerns that are bought to our attention.

My relation has lived in The Hawthorns for a year. I am very impressed by the level of care and attention to detail that this Home provides. The manager knows all the resident's names and their individual needs. Her positive attitude to providing the best care possible to all the residents is reflected in the way the staff treat them. I am always impressed that all staff greet you and are friendly and open. Day to day care is provided by a dedicated team with a mixture of nurses and care assistants. There are plenty of communal areas where residents can mix, read or watch TV. Activities offered to residents are varied and imaginative with, at least, separate activities in the morning and afternoon. The food offered is excellent, varied and cooked from scratch. There is always a choice for every meal and staff ensure that the residents choose food that is suitable for their medical and personal needs. Rooms and communal areas are always kept clean and odour free.
