View Full Details of Moorlands Lodge Care Home - Avery CollectionVery caring staff, friendly staff generally. Mum was happy and comfortable. So glad she died feeling loved, looked after. So many little touches, like putting her teddy with her.
I was impressed from the very first day I saw the place. But what makes a care home good are the people who work there. I can honestly say that the care home staff are excellent they are very caring people and if asked to do something they will do this with a smile and kind words. I think when the time comes for you to go into a home it can be very daunting a big change in your life but they make the process easy. But something else that I think is important you are very vulnerable at this stage in your life and I feel safe living here.
During my stay for 1 week of respite care: - A lovely atmosphere provided. All members of staff were friendly, helpful and efficient. There were a number of choices of activities one could join in throughout the day, e.g. music, quizzes, scrabble, general talks.... to mention just a few.
My father recently needed 3 weeks in hospital, his return to Moorlands has been handled brilliantly. The extraordinarily dedicated team have all gone above and beyond their duties and it's important to say how much we appreciate it. We were offered strong support whilst he was actually in hospital keeping in touch with the hospital medic to medic when our family received very contradictory and confusing feedback from the ward nurses. Dad has been diligently observed since his return, Moorlands doing everything in their power to restore as much dignity as possible. Staff have also provided sagely counsel helping establish a different kind of relationship with my father since he has been back, as he is in a much reduced and vulnerable state. Invaluable wisdom and warmth was offered at a difficult time when the dynamic as father and daughter altered dramatically. I will always remember the kindness and patience. Thank you.
On meeting the original CEO I was very impressed. She was a nurse and had worked in care. We then were introduced to one or two managing members, who had no delivery experience, couldn't project their voices and had not the courtesy to stand up to address us. Since then we have not met anyone from Avery although we see strangers walking around, they do not speak to us. We feel part of a business and not a care home.
We had a lovely visit to the summer fete and BBQ. My Godmother was able to have the whole family visit and enjoy some quality time together in the gardens. The staff were particularly helpful and supportive to us all. We also appreciate being able to be shown around and look at the facilities. It was so much nicer than we had been expecting.
Mum is very happy at Moorlands. She feels safe, comfortable, very well looked after and finds the staff to be wonderful. The whole facility is very clean, her apartment and common spaces are lovely. She enjoys many of the activities and overall her experience of moving into Moorlands has been very positive. There is room for improvement in the food provision - it's inconsistent and Mum struggles sometimes with the quality and with the provision of vegetables. Some meals are excellent so it can be done! It's probably partly down to having to use agency chefs too often - we get the sense that there is pressure on the catering budget which is affecting the standard overall. The other issue that Mum finds is that there are a lot more people in the home who are suffering from dementia but are not on the dementia wing. She has got used to it and it's fine but it surprised her initially. The experience has been overwhelmingly positive both for her and for her family, she has no regrets about making the move and we are very happy that she is enjoying life there to the full.
Since my mother-in-law arrived at Moorlands, last June (2023) the staff have gone over and above to help her settle in and make her feel at home. Leaving your home of 30 years as a recent widow is a difficult time and the staff were sensitive to this adjustment and have made her and the family very welcome.
Moorlands is an excellent residence for my mother. Her apartment is light, spacious, and well looked after by the cleaners. The general areas are always clean and bright. The staff are friendly and caring and there are many activities offered. I am always impressed how all the staff know every Resident’s name. The food offers an excellent choice and if there is nothing my mother likes on the daily menu there are other options available. My only negative comment is regarding communication with my mother when she is unwell. There have been times when she thought she was seeing the GP and did not. I understand the time constraints for the GP, but it would be good if my mother was kept informed. There has been, on occasions, a significant amount of time before anyone comes if my mother presses her bell. When the emergency bell is pressed however, the carers come running. My overall feeling, however, is that I can see nowhere better for my mother, and I would recommend it highly.
My father had an extensive myocardial infarction in the middle of the night, 6 weeks ago. The care home staff on duty managed the emergency immediately and professionally. Since coming home from hospital my father has had a difficult time both physically, mentally and medically. The care home staff, at every level, have worked very closely with our family to help us all deal with the challenges and solutions in a kind, caring and professional manner.
The Moorlands staff are all extremely helpful and caring and do all they can to ensure residents are happy and well cared for. Recently they all bent over backwards to ensure a milestone birthday was celebrated in style.
My mother moved to Moorlands in February 2024. It has been an excellent move for her. The staff are consistently kind, friendly and helpful and Mum is well cared for. As soon as you enter Moorlands Lodge, you know it is a welcoming and well-run environment. My mother is about to have her 95th birthday and my family are organising a gathering for her in the nursing home- and have found that nothing is too much trouble and they are happy to help ensure the occasion is as nice as could possibly be.
November 2023 marked 1 year of residence for my mother. Having visited 7 local residential homes in 2022 before choosing Moorlands Lodge we were struck by how different the atmosphere is in the home. Other homes gave the impression of a lack of interaction between residents and an aura of lassitude. Moorlands Lodge is lovely and welcoming, the staff are friendly and cheerful and the residents make friends and have regular group activities. Add to these aspects the quality of the apartments and the variety of rooms and facilities in the group/public areas and you have a first-class home. My mother once said she would never allow herself to be “put in a home” but she now has more friends than for years and beautiful accommodation.
I am very pleased with the care and service provided for my father. The staff are very friendly to him and myself. I find coming into Moorlands very welcoming and so nice to have other areas to sit in, rather than just his apartment, also good to chat with other residents and to be able to make drinks. The good thing about Moorlands is that my father has all his own furniture around him, so feels more comfortable, for us also to be a reminder of my parent's home! The activities are really good and stimulating, he enjoys going to French and outings, plus all the music that is on offer. The food on offer looks very appetising, although I cannot comment recently, as have not eaten with him for a while, but good to see the choice he can make.
My aunt recently moved into Moorlands Avery Care last December and while this was daunting for her with lots of changes and different routines, she soon quickly adapted to her new environment her room is quite spacious and her outlook is lovely. The home has welcomed her into a new life! She joins in with most activities and enjoys having her hair done occasionally in-house which is fantastic. She enjoys her meals and meeting other residents which have made her feel very welcomed. The staff are very friendly and supportive there’s always a friendly person in reception to greet you when we visit. I would certainly recommend this home to anyone who is considering joining.
My Mum has been at Moorlands Lodge Care Home for the past 18 months. The general facilities and appearance of Moorlands always feel very homely. She has been well looked after and cared for by the wide range of staff. She loves her room and her own company and has largely stayed in her room. However, she does take advantage of and enjoys several of the many activities that are on offer. On the whole, she is happy with the food and range of choices on the daily menu. I know that she is safe and supported and I can always talk to a member of staff about any concerns I have about my Mum. I was particularly impressed in the lead up to, and including the Christmas period by the many special activities that were laid on such as the Christmas Fair and the visit of 2 real reindeer! Overall, I feel very happy that Mum is at Moorlands Lodge.
My mother has been a resident here now for 2 months. The staff have an excellent rapport with the residents and go out of their way to be helpful and supportive. Residents are treated with care and good humour, with their likes and dislikes respected where at all possible. Mum is treated like the individual that she is which was so important to me and her apartment feels like a smaller version of her own home. There is also never a lack of interesting activities if you wish to get involved and plenty of variety to cater for everyone. I am very comfortable with her living at Moorlands and feel as though some of my day-to-day worries for her have been lifted. It is nice to be able to try and have some sort of mother/daughter relationship again.
My mother-in-law has been at Moorlands for 9 months and we cannot rate it highly enough. Having viewed several other care homes in the local area, we knew as soon as we saw Moorlands that we had found the right place. It has a wonderful welcoming feeling - all the staff from the receptionists, the managers, nurses, carers, cleaners, entertainment staff and maintenance team are so friendly and helpful and the care and kindness they give to my mother-in-law is exceptional. Her apartment is spacious and bright and has everything that she requires. There is plenty of room for her to have the furniture and possessions she wanted to bring from her own house so it feels like home from home which made the challenge of the move so much easier. We would not hesitate to recommend Moorlands Lodge. In a time when there are so many negative stories around care homes, Moorlands Lodge has exceeded our expectations on every level and we could not be more satisfied or grateful for the care given.
An excellent home that has given my mother a new lease of life.
My mother moved in here about six months ago and it has improved the quality of her life immeasurably. The things she enjoys most are the entertainment program. The staff are interested and engaging. She loves the food which is excellent quality. Her suite of rooms with a selection of furniture from her home feels like home. Sometimes it's tough to call her because she is rarely in her room. Top marks to the management and staff, well done!
