View Full Details of Barchester Harper Fields2 weeks in June, overall I was very contented and well looked after, as I was only booked for 2 weeks I wasn't concerned too much re any problems. I noticed that mealtimes ran much smoother when there were sufficient staff on duty, frequently short staffed some breakfast times. The food wasn't always to my taste but I tried to eat everything and certainly haven't been hungry.
Nice welcome for my husband for respite care. was really easy, as I thought he might be awkward. apparently he was really good, and since coming home not stopped talking about it.
Overall, we find the standard of care very good and the staff are helpful, friendly and caring. Some staff members, in particular, go above and beyond to resolve queries regarding residents' care and health and to encourage them to take part in activities.
We asked for dad to be admitted to Harper Fields as he was vunerable at home due to a series of falls. He feels much safer and settled here. The staff are so warm and friendly. Dad is happier here than he has been in a long time.
I am so very happy with the care my father in law has been given. He feels safe and happy here.
My mum has received excellent, kind care & attention since moving into Harper Feilds. Earlier this year, her medical & mental needs have been promptly & effectively attended to. Both the nursing & care team are very professional & friendly and have made her and our family very at home and welcome.
My wife has Alzheimer's and has now been in Harper Fields for four weeks. I cannot fault anything; she is definitely more content there than she was at home and is looked after by wonderful caring staff who have also been very supporting to me. The staff treat everyone with respect and kindness. I have no complaints there. The whole process of admitting my wife (who does not have awareness of her condition) was handled with great understanding. Also, the carers help when visiting, particularly when saying goodbye can be stressful. I have no doubts that my wife is being looked after in the best possible way.
We needed dementia care and nursing care for our frail relative with complex needs. Even though she was only there a few weeks our experience was very positive. All of the staff are polite, professional, helpful, kind and well trained. As a doctor for many years I was sooo impressed. The care has made what was a difficult time for us as pleasant and peaceful as it could be. A big shout out for the chaplain who offers spiritual support to those who want it. She is so kind. The home is welcoming, clean and lots of activities going on. A real community
My partner spent a week @ Harpers Fields - I was very worried as it was our first ever experience of respite. I really didn't need to as, she was welcomed warmly and so much respect - with her likes and needs a top priority. He room and the home overall was spotless, staff visible - doing their best to keep it so. Food was lovely. Plenty of choice - healthy options too. I was pleased to see a variety of activities. Staff were so kind and caring. I felt I was leaving her in good hands. We would use this place again as I have peace of mind.
My father went onto palliative caring in hospital + we needed to find a suitable nursing home for him. From the moment we walked through the door of Harper Fields we felt welcome + that a) they could cater for his needs + b) that he would be well looked after. The staff went to great lengths to facilitate his discharge + welcomed us all when he arrived. Sadly his stay was very short but we had total confidence that the nursing team could meet his needs - + they did. Thank you. It meant the world.
My mother was still poorly on arrival to Harper Fields. The care from the Nurses care manager, carers, Ancilliary staff then and subsequently, have improved my mothers quality of life. The staff treat everyone as an individual, with respect and patience. The personal care and hygiene is a credit to the staff. Even on the busiest of days the Residents are calm and give time. Attention to detail is excellent.
I spent 3 weeks at Harper Fields recuperating from a fall and surgery. The staff were absolutely excellent, kind and caring - nothing was too much trouble for them. The room was comfortable, but there was an ongoing problem with no hot water in the bathroom which was not resolved during my stay. The food was very disappointing - bland and lacking in variation. This was a shame given how excellent and dedicated the staff are.
Wonderful care is being provided for my mother who feels very happy and content here at Barchester Harper Fields.
I always find the staff very friendly and helpful. The nurses and care assistants are very patient with my dad and they keep us well informed about how he has been. The facilities are excellent and the whole home is always kept very clean and tidy.
My husband has become very calm since moving into Barchester Harper Fields. The activities, he won't join in group work. It is nice to know he is well cared for and in a safe place.
My mum has been at Barchester Harper Fields for just under two months. She has settled in well. The place is lovely and well-kept. The staff are amazing and are very attentive. I am really pleased she is in a place that feels homely, clean and has everything she needs and is looked after by such wonderful, caring people.
New decorations are very nice. My mum enjoys the spa bath. I feel that the menu is very repetitive and vegetarian choices are poor. I would question the nutritional value of items such as "courgette gratin" and ratatouille, alongside mushroom stroganoff or mixed vegetable casserole. The entertainment, even taking into account the lack of an entertainment leader, has been very poor. Walks around the grounds is dependent on the weather and numbers limited. There are not many occasions when wheelchair users are taken out. Room visits and pamper sessions are also restricted by staff availability and resources.
Mum came to Barchester Harper Fields as respite care. She has terminal cancer and was finding it hard to cope at home on her own. She found it hard to adjust at first but did adjust and began to get involved in care home life. Mum is not too keen on the food as it has deteriorated since she came here, she only likes a soft diet and there is inconsistency in the quality. Communication has been patchy at times and Mum's care has been affected by this. I do feel Mum is safe and on the whole, well looked after. Consistency with staff has also been an issue.
Exceeds my expectations as a care home since coming here in March 2024. Staff, generally, are very good however sometimes communication is not the best. Sometimes, I feel my care is rushed (shower, personal care) but realise everyone is under pressure, sometimes short-staffed.
My mum has lived here for over three years now and been well cared for throughout. The staff are always friendly and attentive.
