View Full Details of Astley HallConsidering that this was so expensive- nearly £4000 for 2 weeks - it fell far below expectations. More like an expensive but failing hotel I did not feel safe in my room as inmates kept bursting in. I didn't feel that this was taken very seriously ("they won't do any harm" ) Even the food was poor and no sign of a proper menu.. Being a vegetarian seemed to be a problem. No proper orange juice. Care was good although intermittent. Activity leaders were not trained.
Astley Hall is a lovely bright care home but more importantly the staff are very supportive and kind to my relative - always with a smile from the minute you are greeted at reception through to the management team. The nurses informed me on a regular basis of my relatives decline/changes in behaviour with dementia and any medication updates the doctors had advised. This was very important due to the distance I could not visit as often as I liked. Although my relative did not wish most of the time to become involved in daily entertainment or activities- the staff would always encourage but not force anyone to participate. Which was a shame as there always seemed to be something different going on! A bonus to the facilities the residents have access to a hairdresser/chiropodist possibly more. As you enter the reception there is a lovely bistro area which is a great place for my relative to leave their room/tv lounge (as lovely as they are) sit with family, friends and other residents.
I looked at a few homes before my dad had to go into care but this one offered light, modern and clean accommodation. The temperature is perfect for elderly people who feel the cold. The staff, especially the nursing staff are lovely. Yes, voices are a little raised but only so the residents can hear them! My father has had some minor health issues and I was kept fully notified and they were dealt with swiftly. Prices seem comparable with other similar homes. My only complaint is that don't seem to offer trips out for the more mobile residents
The management of the facility exhibited significant shortcomings, characterized by delayed responses that often spanned several days. Additionally, certain team members displayed a lack of professionalism, speaking condescendingly to residents and occasionally raising their voices, which contributed to an uncomfortable atmosphere. Beyond the exorbitant costs associated with care, the quality of service provided to my father was notably subpar. Following a serious fall that necessitated a hospital stay, it became evident that his basic needs were not being met; his clothing was unclean, and he was not given adequate personal hygiene care. This experience raises serious concerns about the overall standards of care and the treatment of residents within the facility.
Lovely home, caring people. My mother is very happy here. Wonderful facilities and very clean. Activities much better now there are more than one activity person. Would recommend and comparatively very good value.
We were highly satisfied with the care and support Mum received while she was a resident,at Astley Hall. All her visitors were made very welcome.Mum loved to join in with the activities especially quizzes and singing.she also enjoyed her meals .Everyone who worked at Astley would stop and have a chat with Mum which she loved.
As a family we have been very pleased with the level of care provided to our mother over the last 2 1/2 years. She has now entered the final stage of dementia and we are happy with how sensitively this has been managed. Thank you very much. I would not hesitate to recommend Astly Hall to anyone.
Staff very caring. Excellent service on all fronts. Well looked after. Kept up to date with all her needs.
Mum went in for respite care during the refitting of her bathroom. She settled well, although very reluctantly and would never admit this! All staff treated mum with respect and were always approachable. She refers to the friends she made during her stay and we hope to visit soon. Thank you all who made this unsettling time calmer.
Overall Dad has settled quite well. Dad has had 2 falls since being in the home and I also found him in soiled clothes on one occasion. There are also sometimes issues with his hearing aids no batteries or not in and dad is really deaf without them. Dad has also lost his dentures, trousers and cardigans all were named except dentures! The staff are approachable and Dad seems comfortable around the staff. The room is clean and comfortable. Possible more stimulation for the residents. Maybe singing, music.
The staff at Astley Hall are all extremely dedicated and caring. The care given is usually of a very high standard, with only minor, but extremely frustrating slip-ups. Mum uses hearing aids and whilst the personal care staff are very good at getting mum's aids fitted into her ears (mum has arthritis in her hands and is unable to do this herself) they do on occasion forget to turn them on! The staff have made mum transition into care home living a very calm and easy process, and Mum is busy making some new friends.
I had the most wonderful experience when visiting my dear friend who is currently a resident at the stunning Astley Hall Care Home. From the very moment I walked through the door, the staff were so friendly and welcoming. It was the most warm and caring atmosphere. The relaxed, comfortable relationship between staff and residents is evident and it is obvious how well loved and cared for my dear friend is. My dear friend is very happy in her home and has made so many special friends. I am really looking forward to visiting again soon. Oh, and I must add, the food is exceptional too!
Clean and friendly care home. Staff seem contented and are mindful of the resident's needs. Activities I've observed are well thought out and encourage reluctant residents to participate but without undue pressure.
Mum has been at Astley Hall since November and she's gradually settling in. We had a lovely Christmas Day lunch together and the staff were wonderful. The tables were decorated and the food was plentiful. It was a nice atmosphere. There was plenty of live entertainment over the holiday period and Mum enjoyed that too. The staff are always welcoming and are very kind to the residents. Sometimes my mum is anxious and stressed with her dementia and they handle it very well and also let me know how she is. She had lived with me for 8 years prior to moving to Astley so it is sometimes difficult for her to adjust to residential care and I can only thank them all for helping her. She is always clean and tidy, as is her room.
Food poor, not enough, especially for the amount of fees that we pay, does not live up to the photo in the brochure that is advertised.
One staff member in particular is so lovely when I arrive at the care home. Always smiling and welcoming. Always busy and works hard to make everyone’s visit a happy one. Makes a lovely cuppa for you and is happy to help. Thank you.
Since my mother has been at Astley Hall Care home she has been treated with respect and kindness. She is always clean and looks very comfortable. The staff are very friendly and welcoming when you arrive. The nursing staff are great and always give me an update on how my mum is. The food always looks great as well.
Astley Hall is a modern, light and very clean care home. The rooms are lovely and the Bistro/bar area is a great place to enjoy a coffee and to meet other residents and family. The staff are very caring, kind and understanding. The residents are well looked after and family and friends are encouraged to join in with the many lovely activities organised at the home. Thank you Astley Hall for everything you do.
If there was a score for the service, care and attention to the residents by all the staff at Astley Hall it would be 11/10! Always a cheery smile and a welcome from all and it is clear to see the residents are happy and well cared for. Since my mum has been at Astley suffering from dementia and other associated complex medical issues, she is much calmer and more settled. Astley Hall is spotless, fresh and modern in all areas and the residents want for nothing. They have regular activities for them and they have the option to join or not. They also have a beautiful large garden and patio that is well used by residents and staff for other activities and enjoyment during the good weather months. Astley Hall actively encourages relatives and family friends to be involved with the residents and ensure plenty of drinks, snacks and the odd drink is available. Definitely recommended and worth every penny for the peace of mind and comfort of our loved ones.
Astley Hall stands out. It is a warm, friendly and caring home which gives outstanding care to Mum. I love visiting. I am welcomed warmly and enjoy spending time with carers and residents alike. A special feature is the Brasserie where Mum and I can sit and have a chat in a light airy space. We can have a drink or order an afternoon tea. This feels like a treat and builds happy memories for all of us.
