View Full Details of Penhurst Gardens Care HomeMy mother went into Penhurst Gardens for respite care. From the first enquiry to the day she left, staff were brilliant: supportive, kind, thoughtful, caring and efficient. We chose Penhurst Gardens because I had already heard very good comments from friends who had had family members living there. Even so, I had no idea that the experience would be so personalised and so good. Accommodation was attractive, peaceful and clean. Food was superb and tailored to my mother's needs. Staff were amazing at getting to know my mother without being intrusive and then making sure she had the environment she needed. Also, the setting of the care home is lovely: peaceful and surrounded by green space but also close to the centre of Chipping Norton. In all, a superb experience. Thank you so much!
I was only her for a short time. All staff were friendly and helpful. Would have liked a little more time of quiet - without so many people calling in especially to do with catering - taking orders etc. Did not find food suited me - would have liked more fresh ingredients - maybe local - less sauces - a lot of food served overcooked. I found 5 o'clock very early to eat dinner. Beautifully designed place - and nice views from windows - public rooms very nice.
My mother became a resident at the end of 2024 and from the start I knew she was going to be well looked after, safe and warm. Management has been wonderful. Really made Mum's transition very welcoming caring. Her room is comfortable and well furnished. She has everything she needs and the staff are fabulous. I have had no regrets about putting her here.
My parents needed to go into care urgently, the manager was amazing in her support to help them move in quickly. Since moving in my parents have been made really welcome and have transitioned into care far better than we could have hoped for, all as a direct result of the support given by all of the staff (and a special mention should go to the activities coordinator).
I experienced 1 week respite care at Penhurst after surgery. The staff were charming and considerate at all times I was particularly impressed with the respect they showed toward all residents. The food that the kitchen produced was excellent, offering a wide range of choice and healthy, well presented options. I can comfortably look forward to a future of possible residential care with confidence.
My visits to my sister I could not find fault with anything. Wonderful staff, so caring. I would recommend to any person who wants to be well looked after in their later years.
Very impressed with the level of care and attention to my mother-in-law. Staff goes out of their way to make her feel comfortable and to get to know her so they can provide tailor made care. Special mention to the amazing arts and crafts staff who helped her coming out of her shell.
I spent a week at Penhurst Gardens Care Home as a respite resident. Recovering from a hip replacement. There was no space upstairs so I was in the debenture ward which is clearly a different experience. The visit was very successful with staff dealing with medication and any help I required. Many thanks.
Lovely environment and lovely people! From first looking around Penhurst to Mum being admitted, the communication and care received from the manager has been excellent. The room is very nice and all the staff are friendly and polite. Mum will need encouragement to 'mix' and the staff are doing their best to help this happen. Thank you everyone.
We have been extremely pleased with the care, staff, and quality of food at Penhurst. My Mum has been very happy and content, feeling secure and cared for. Living in America, is is very important to me to have the peace that she is cared for. The staff does an excellent job at communicating Mum's issues or health changes.
As a first-time service user (respite care) this has been an interesting and pleasant experience. All staff, management, nurses, carers, kitchen and domestic were kind, friendly and cheerful. Any problems were met with patience and helpful suggestions. Food was good and versatile, some a little rich occasionally but there were always alternatives on offer. Fish and chips are very good. Activities good and staff kind and helpful also.
My father was given first-rate care throughout his stay. Staff were friendly and supportive from our pre-visit tour through to his arrival and during his respite stay for one week. He praised their attentiveness to his needs and was also impressed with the selection and quality of the meals. The furnishings and facilities are of a high standard, and the whole building and room were spotlessly clean.
Settled here, very comfortable and happy. The staff are a delight and no request is a trouble to them. The food is delicious every day.
My overall experience was good to very good but I was lonely due to seemingly a low number of residents. This also impacted my rating for activities. Staff seemed overworked but very helpful. The chef was very obliging with regard to my 'spices' allergy. Laundry service was very good.
My mother unfortunately suffered from terminal cancer and required more care than we could provide at home, hence we looked for a home that offered nursing care. On visiting Penhurst we were delighted to see that not only did it offer 24/7 nursing care but also has modern, bright and well-appointed rooms and facilities. My mum was delighted with her room, along with the entertainment on offer. The staff are however what makes the home so good, they are caring and professional but most importantly friendly, they got to know Mum and her them, making those awkward moments when accepting personal care easier. Mum had her favourites as you would expect, and she really enjoyed hearing about their lives and families. The nursing staff were also very attentive and ensured Mum was comfortable throughout. It's difficult to know what to put into a review of a nursing home for your mum, I think the only thing I can say is that if we were choosing again we would again choose Penhurst Gardens.
Our mother recently moved into your home, following a series of falls & a hospital stay after breaking her hip. She has always been a proud, independent lady & has struggled over the last few years to admit to health issues and allow anyone to help her. It has been a difficult time for everyone. It is so good that the team take the time to help & care for her. They are buoyant & kind. We are so grateful that she has this care around her & we as a family have good contact with the management team, who are patient (with us!) & supportive. Thank you.
Most of us have to make the decision of where, when, how much, and what sort of care is needed. For me, it was respite care for my father, a 96-year-old academic living on his own at home. Supported by my sister daily and myself, plus a nurse once a week, was inadequate. The loosing of his memory and general decline meant we needed to find something suited to his needs, three week's respite. Viewing Penhurst was most reassuring, followed by a casual lunch with my father, enabled us to see how he might fit in. Decision made, he started his respite, not easily as his confusion became an anxiety. The excellent care, commitment and heartfelt kindness of the staff made Dad 'safe' and in time eased him into their community. His medical needs improved and his general well-being, put him in good stead, ready to go home. Further respite care is booked with the hope that when ready he can leave his beloved home and become residential at Penhurst.
What an incredible welcome from the Penhurst team when our 90-year-old mother moved into her new room. One gentleman went above and beyond with flowers and a welcome card and took time out to settle Mum and reassure our family. This is a lovely, caring home with professional carers and a sense of calm. We are reassured that Mum is well looked after by kind people in a beautiful environment.
Helping Mum find a new home, where her needs could be supported, felt like an overwhelming task. From the moment of Mum’s arrival at Penhurst Gardens we were made to feel welcome. Each individual resident is treated with skill, kindness, sensitivity and respect and this ethos prevails throughout. As a relative, I have been supported in discovering how instead of struggling to ‘manage’ Mum’s Alzheimer's, I can relax and enjoy precious time with her instead. We celebrated New Year’s Eve together at the visitors and residents’ bar with great enjoyment. This is an exceptional care home where families can retain the sense of their own family, as well as being at the heart of a larger, caring ‘family’. Meals are first class and there is an imaginative programme of daily activities. I have watched my mum recover from an awful fall and succeed in regaining her self-confidence, as a result of the care she has received. We can’t believe that we have been lucky enough to find such a gem!
I have found on the whole the staff very friendly, helpful and supportive to both myself and my mother. Most staff have provided support at very emotional moments at difficult times which is very important to both Mum and I. They have respected and backed us up with outside support. The activities are very good to get everyone together.
