Eleanor Palmer Trust is a nursing and residential care home situated on a quiet road, close to local shops and amenities, about half a mile from Barnet High Street. The modern, two-storey building has wheelchair access and is set in well-maintained, landscaped gardens.

Eleanor Palmer Trust provides safe, comfortable and bright accommodation for older people. Most of the single bed-sitting rooms have en-suite facilities, while all rooms have 24-hour nurse call systems and television, radio and telephone points, which can be used for internet access if required. The home encourages residents to bring some of their own possessions to create a home-from-home environment.

A large communal lounge with bay windows overlooks the garden allowing residents to enjoy conversations with each other, or take part in the various activities that are organised for them on a daily basis. For those who prefer their own company, quieter reading areas and places to watch TV or listen quietly to music are also available.

A summer house was built during the pandemic for residents to spend time with their friends and families, it also has heating and lighting. A newly refurbished patio is available for residents and their friends/families to spend time together.

Entertainment is an important part of life at the care home, with quizzes, bingo, art classes, Tai Chi, exercise classes, reminiscence evenings, singing, and so many more activities, plus accompanied day trips out are also organised for the residents. The care home also has its own minibus which is used for residents’ outings and essential medical appointments.

The focus is always on the 'resident' in Eleanor Palmer Trust.

My husband has been a resident in the care home for two years, and as a family, we are very pleased that we made the right decision. The home is clean, warm and comfortable. The management, nursing team and care team are excellent and joyed by 4 hard-working laundry and cleaning teams.
Food is varied
and tasty, with choices for residents who may need special diets.
Something is always happening in the lounge, either activities or entertainment. The atmosphere is cheerful and homely.

My mother has been living at Eleanor Palmer Trust nursing home since the autumn of 2025. We chose this home based on a referral recommendation that the quality of care was very high. Our experience so far has borne that out. The manager and staff were very caring and helpful about the process of
moving our Mum into the home, including settling up her room and then settling her in and overcoming her initial anxiety. I have been very impressed by the atmosphere and quality of care. The staff are friendly and attentive, and attuned to the residents' needs and wellbeing. They have a strong program of activities, and residents are able to join in or spend time in their room as desired. We can visit at any time, and whenever we have done so we have received a warm welcome, with team members very happy to address any questions we have about Mum's status and care. We are very happy that we were able to choose Eleanor Palmer Trust to support our Mum at this stage of her life.

My mother-in-law relocated to the Eleanor Palmer Trust Care home in September 2025 after over 50 years residing in her family home. Such a move initially provoked extreme feelings for mum and the family, but Cantelowes was very reassuring throughout the process. In several visits during the holiday
season, my wife and I observed that her mum is increasingly comfortable in her new surroundings both private room and common areas, after a few months. The staff is very attentive and caring at all times, and endeavors to engage with and cheer the residents while closely attending to their duties. The staff takes particular care in providing a stable and secure environment, avoiding unnecessary disruption to residents and allowing them ease in their everyday lives. The staff warmly welcomed our visits and provided valuable information on mum's ongoing health and comfort in the environment. 5 stars plus!

The care home is comfortable, warm and homely. I didn't want to go to any care home, but know I had to, and I'm glad my family chose this one. The carers are brilliant and very hardworking. The management are always ready to help with any problems and sort things out for you. The nursing staff are on
the ball with any medical problems. All the staff give 110 percent. Good food, varied menu and special menus if needed. Always something going on, activities, games, music, exercise and plenty of laughter.

We were naturally apprehensive about the transition when my mother-in-law needed to move into residential care. She had become increasingly vulnerable at home and was understandably resistant to the idea of leaving her familiar surroundings.
However, I'm pleased to say that she has settled in remarkably
well. The transformation has been wonderful to witness - she's noticeably calmer and less agitated than she was before. It's such a relief to see her receiving the round-the-clock care and attention she needs.
The staff work together seamlessly, providing consistent and reliable care that has given us complete peace of mind. Knowing that my mother-in-law is in such capable, caring hands has made all the difference to our family.
We're genuinely grateful for the supportive environment they've created, which has helped turn what could have been a difficult transition into a positive change.

My father has lived in Eleanor Palmer Trust Care home since Nov 2023. The move was a very difficult decision for him and the family, but the staff were very reassuring from the beginning. He is treated with genuine kindness, dignity and patience. The care home has welcomed my mother too, by inviting
her for meals and including them both on trips out.
The standard of care is excellent, and the home is clean and welcoming. I would highly recommend.

Before my grandad was in this care home he was bedbound but now he is walking. They are promoting his interests by paying chess with him. He is beautifully groomed, smiling, he enjoys the live music sessions and when he came back from an appointment he said he was glad to be home. Staff are all friendly,
caring and welcoming.

Our mum moved to Cantelowes this year, and we cannot speak highly enough of the entire experience. From the outset, the team gave us the time and space to prepare her room properly - allowing us to choose the decor and add personal touches that truly made it feel like home.
Every member of staff we've
encountered has been knowledgeable, professional, and genuinely caring. This is an incredibly difficult chapter for our whole family, but it brings us immense relief knowing that Mum is in the best possible place during the worst of times.
What stands out most is how much the staff truly care. It's not just a job to them - you can see it in their interactions, their patience, and their compassion. We're so grateful to have found Cantelowes and feel completely confident that Mum is receiving the amazing care she deserves.
We couldn't recommend this home more highly to anyone facing similar circumstances.

My friend was taken in to Cantelowes House as an emergency in 2022 when she was suffering from serious dementia. Although this was the only option, it turns out to have been a blessing. She has been very happy here ever since. The staff are always so positive. I have absolute confidence in this home
as a safe place for anyone who needs care. I have always been able to talk to the care staff and management easily - almost always on demand. There is a varied amount of entertainment. I have seen my friend thoroughly enjoying the singing. The place has a good and open feel about it. The food seems to be excellent - it certainly was on the one occasion I stayed for lunch. They make sure that residents have opportunities to do things relevant to them - for my friend that is sewing.
When she had to go to hospital the care staff also attended and revisited during her short stay.
I have visited friends in other care homes and although they are also good, this one is especially good.

Our neighbour has been a resident at Cantelowes car over a year. She has settled well and has nothing but kind words for all the stuff.
During help with her personal care, a breast lump was found but this was properly dealt with and our neighbour a successful treatment for this.
She has a comfortable
room with an en-suite-shower.
She is encouraged to join the daily activities and is always pleased to have visitors, who are welcomed and encouraged.
We have found the staff to be nothing but kind and they always strive to improve the care they give.
We have regular updates on news and invitations to family and friends quarterly meetings.
The garden has been improved and it was wonderful to spend time in the shade during the hot summer months.
I would not hesitate to recommend.

After my father asked to move to a home I visited several of them to try to find the best one. Half of them were like big, soulless corporate hotels. Most of the rest were run down and miserable. The only one that stood out was Cantelowes House. Small enough to be personal and with good facilities,
the staff were thoughtful and considerate and took care of my father from his first day there to his last day. If you're looking for a place in a home and Cantelowes happens to have one available you should snap it up.

When our sister and mother-in-law moved to Cantelowes House my sister and I were so impressed with and grateful for the ethic of care that informed every decision and every action of the staff and management we met. I admit that before my return visit, I had an (unfounded) fear that I might find some
change. I didn't! Still the same attention to needs and responses to changing needs still the personal kindness on the phone or in-person to us as visitors. I am so grateful.

Cantelowes is a wonderful care and nursing home, where the staff consistently demonstrate compassion, dedication and professionalism. Each staff member has all the essential details about residents readily available on their phone which is incredibly reassuring for me as her son and as a retired GP
to check on my mother's well-being. Whenever I visit my mother, the staff greets me with a warm smile and treats me like a family member.

The current manager, is exceptional, ensuring smooth and efficient operations for staff, residents, and their families, with a strong emphasis on maintaining high standards of hygiene. My mother was transferred here from the hospital for end-of-life care at age 100, and she is now an impressive 102-this speaks volumes about the level of care provided at Cantelowes. The nursing home is excellent at coordinating with other agencies, such as social workers, arranging multidisciplinary meetings, and requesting visits from GPs or consultants.

My uncle has been a resident at Cantelowes House since the beginning of 2024.
He is 90 years of age and his care needs have escalated in the year prior to his arrival at the home. He has needed two emergency admissions into Barnet General in the past 14-month period and that has revealed his frailty.
As
a family, we researched Barnet for the best possible care home and that research has borne fruit. We could not be happier with the excellent standard of care my uncle has received. But even greater than our delight, is the happiness we see in my uncle who has been transformed by the care he's received.
We visit the home regularly and always receive a very warm welcome. We are offered refreshments by the care team who always have a smile for us.
My uncle has a lovely clean room and has settled so well into his new home.
We have witnessed such high-quality care, from the manager, clinical lead, all of the nurses, the chefs, the laundry team and the handyman. A huge thank you for what you do.

This wonderful home has now looked after two of my relatives in the last few years. From the cook to the ground staff and everyone in between, the home offers a warm and welcoming environment not just to its residents but to their visitors too.
There is always (appropriate) laughter and it is a happy
place where residents are valued and treated always as individuals.
At all times, I felt like they were caring for my Uncle in the very best possible way.
My mum was in a home in a different part of the country for 3 years and whilst it was a decent place, comparing it with this home would be like comparing a 2 bed flat with Buckingham Palace!
The other big indicator to me that this is a great place is the low staff turnover. The same friendly faces have been with the home for many years and this is clearly no accident. It also helps the residents and those visiting them to feel reassured that consistent care and attention is being given.
If I end up in a home, I hope it is here.

When looking for a care home in the area 'Cantelowes' ticked all the boxes. The activities are fantastic and delivered with sensitivity and enthusiasm. The carers are all caring and mum has settled in very well. The management team handyman, cooks and cleaning teams all do a great job, and if we have
any requests, everyone is obliging. Generally a wonderful 'Family Feel' care home.

My mum has recently moved into Cantelowes Nursing Home. She had previously spent 5 weeks in Hospice over Christmas due to end-of-life stages of heart failure. Over the past few weeks, mum has started to feel really lonely and isolated and made it her choice to go into a nursing Home. We actually didn't
look at any other homes, as I just knew that Cantelowes would be perfect for us all, and we definitely haven't been disappointed.

When my mum arrived she was welcomed by all members of the staff. The main thing that sticks with me, is that they welcomed her to the and the family, which was so nice to hear when someone so special to you will be in their capable hands. My mum has a beautiful room. The handyman went above and beyond to get mum's room exactly how she wanted it. The care home provides delicious home cooked meals with a great variety. The facilities are very clean and well-maintained. I highly recommend this nursing home, for your loved one needing additional care.

  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 22 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.918 for Eleanor Palmer Trust - Nursing & Residential Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (236 Excellents x 5) + (21 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 257 Ratings = 4.918
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Eleanor Palmer Trust - Nursing & Residential Care Home is based on 22 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 34 registered maximum number of service users is 6.8, which has been reached with 22 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
