This is a small but exceedingly welcoming care home, with staff and management hardworking and friendly, with limitless patience. My wife entered the home in January and has been there for three months and our family is very pleased with the care given to her; nothing is too much trouble for them.
We
are all made very welcome whenever we visit, which is any time we wish, although we do try to call when it is not meal time.

If I ever need the same type of care, I would have no hesitation in going to the Woodlands.

My mother joined Woodlands Day Centre in Nov 2017.
I was looking for a facility where she could socialise and be stimulated while also providing respite for my husband and myself.
She has Alzheimer's Disease and so does not like change and was initially determined not to stay or take part in activities.
However,
she was soon won over by the staff who are incredible.
The atmosphere is cheerful and happy.
The staff are attentive and caring and have really got to know and understand my mother.
She is not intimidated as it is a small facility and she has developed friendships with the other attendees.
Now going to 'club' is her favourite topic.

My mum started using Woodlands day centre in September 2016 so that my dad who was her main carer could have a break. After attending the day centre 3 days a week for just over a year mum became a full-time resident. The manager and staff have been amazing with not only my mum but also my dad. We are
always made to feel so welcome when we visit and never rushed to leave.
Woodlands has a lovely atmosphere and family feel to it. Being a smaller care home has been great for my mum as she had begun to get distressed in large groups of people.

Woodlands Care Home Ltd was chosen for my friend who has advanced Alzheimer's because of its homely environment so unlike many of the rather cold faceless care I have visited.

The staff are excellent, seeming genuinely to care for their residents. The food is superb home-cooked and delicious.

The

garden with its sheltered seating area provides a change of scenery for residents and visitors alike.

Mum went into Woodlands Care Home from hospital after a fall in her own home. At first, it was for respite care but seeing mum settling in and being looked after so well and above all - happy, meant that I made it permanent. For the next few months, she joined in with activities provided to stimulate
her and lost her sense of loneliness. At the end, staff could not do enough for her, encouraging her to eat and drink and keeping her comfortable to the end.

Thank you Woodlands.

A wonderful, caring place to stay, everyone is treated as a friend and made to feel part of the community. There is plenty to do during the week as the activities keep everybody happy and engaged. My dad has made positive improvements since coming here, which he hadn't in a previous care home.

Unfortunately, my father only got to spend 3 weeks at Woodlands Care Home before he passed away. From the moment he arrived, he was welcomed in a most caring and understanding manner. The staff went out of their way to get to know him and our family in a friendly, warm and welcoming way. He particularly
enjoyed the food and also embraced relationships that staff quickly formed with him. As a family, we could visit at any time and the atmosphere at Woodlands would always be calm and caring. There was also lots of fun and laughter encouraged, especially during staff-led activities. We thank Woodlands for making the last 3 weeks of Dad's life so happy and comfortable for him.

The woodlands manager and staff made every effort to ensure my father settled in. They also provided my family and I with genuine, caring support. We could not be happier with the personal care and attention provided by this care home. We visit regularly and it is clear that the residents are relaxed
and well cared for. The staff are amazing they care for their residents as if they were their own family members. Evidence by the very enjoyable garden party in April.

My aunt came to the home from hospital. She was very unsteady on her feet and unable to do anything for herself. There was a remarkable change in the 3 months she stayed there. They were fantastic. Now she is back home and doing everything for herself. This could not have happened without them.

I thought I would find it difficult placing my mum in a care home for a week, but Woodlands made it easy. She felt so at home that she did not worry when we left. The staff were extremely good at making sure she was occupied, which she enjoyed, but they also made sure that she was cared for in the evenings
which is when she would get confused. In future, I would be very happy for her to go there for respite but also, if I needed for her to go to a care home full time, this would be the one I would choose. 5 stars to the manager and all his staff. Thank you.

My mum is 94 and suffering from dementia, when she was living at home on her own she had carers three times a day but she was not eating properly and her health was deteriorating. She has been in Woodlands Care Home for about a year and we can see a big improvement in her health and her confidence.
The staff encourage her to eat and be positive and also encourage her to be mobile, she does not seem so nervous now. The staff look after her very well, and as a family, we are very pleased that we have chosen the Woodlands Care Home.

A family business with the benefit of having only 19 rooms. There is a very welcoming atmosphere where nothing is too much trouble. The manager and staff are well connected, the manager having experienced the care home environment for many years due to his family connection. Without exception, the staff
show caring, conscientious, hard work as well as empathy with the residents and great team communication. Staff are professional and follow procedures in place, but also display initiative and are always on the lookout for ways to improve the resident's day. This is a place people want to be. Rooms, food choices, activities and amenities are all to a high standard. I have no hesitation in recommending Woodlands care home for elderly and dementia care.

My mother came into Woodlands care home in 2015. The home is really good, the staff are all very nice and caring. The home is always clean and the residents are also kept very clean and tidy. The manager is very good and extremely helpful. I cannot fault it all and would recommend to anybody. Food also
very good and you can come and go whenever you want to visit.

My 97 year old mother has been a resident for two years. All the carers are very devoted, caring and sensitive to mums needs. They manage to get her up wash and dress her everyday, which isn't easy, and she always seems happy with all the staff. Sometimes night staff doesn't dress her well or mess her
hair do by combing her hair flat. I regret there isn't any where quiet I can take my mum when I visit as she's very deaf, there is always a TV on, and our conversations are therefore public. They do however provide wonderful entertainment when a relative plays the piano to them.

Current Review Score: 9.6 (9.552)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.6 (9.552) out of 10 for Woodlands Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 5.0 out of 5 from 7 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.6 out of 5 from 7 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.952 for Woodlands Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (80 Excellents x 5) + (4 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 84 Ratings = 4.952
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.6 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Woodlands Care Home is based on 7 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 = 3.6
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 32 registered maximum number of service users is 6.4, which has been reached with 7 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Job Title: Proprietor/Registered Manager Joined: 2000

Woodlands Care home is a family-run business, in which I joined over 25 years ago and became Registered Manager in the year 2000. As my mother owned care homes, I spent my childhood in such environments, so I have spent more than 40 years fostering a passion to care for the elderly.

I completed my Level 5 qualification in Health and Social Care, and hold an NVQ in Business and Finance. This has held me in really good stead to nurture and grow the business to what it is today.

My proudest moment in care has come recently, having fully refurbished the care home. The renovation has been purpose-built for elderly residents with varying needs and furnished to a very high standard.
