This wonderful care home has truly put my faith back to 'there is fantastic care homes out there', as before in the past, doing our homework and visiting, prior to putting my dad, who has dementia and Alzheimer's, we were promised the earth, but now know complete lies and all about profit and definitely
not care, but seriously, everyone, including residents were so happy and definitely very, very well cared for at Boars. Was so nice for us too, not to worry about my dad in care and they totally deserve a brilliant review. Would visit and Dad was always immaculate, even on the first day. I said he loves his handkerchief, next day neatly folded into a fab design in his top pocket! All the staff, you are truly amazing, and I do hope it independently stays, how it is. Dad will definitely be back, and it smells fabulous (no air fresheners). Again, a very big thank you for looking after Dad for just over three weeks and treating him like a king and little things, like letting him lay in when he wanted and extra cake. Credit to you all.
Reply from Ryan Wicks, Care Manager at Boars Tye HouseThank you for your lovely review. We loved having Dad stay with us. He was such a gentleman. We were sad to see him go back home. If you need anything, our door is always open and we are always only a call away. See you soon!

My mum has been in the home for just over two years. Had to move her here because of her dementia. The staff are lovely and caring but she has had quite a few things go missing since being here. Mainly her jewellery which cannot be replaced and more recently a pair of glasses costing £149.00 (which
actually have her name engraved on them). Last week I had to do her feet, as her toenails were so long they were cutting into her feet. It turns out that no one in the home has seen a Chiropodist since 10th November 2021. That is not good for elderly people!
Reply from Yvonne Smith, Office manager at Boars Tye HouseThank you for your feedback. We have an open-door policy and encourage all family members to speak to us at any time, to resolve any issues they may have within a timely manner. We encourage family members to keep all of their loved ones' valuables in their possession, rather than bringing them into the home. As I am sure you understand, that sometimes residents misplace items, or they are wearing them when they have a hospital visit, where they can also be misplaced. Chiropodist visits were booked in December 2021 and in February 2022, but of course, residents do have the right to refuse to see the chiropodist, if they don't want to see them.

I cannot express how wonderful all the care staff are at Boars Tye. My dad was given the best care at all points of his time here which was a great comfort to him and myself during the last days of his life. I cannot thank them enough.

My husband has been a resident of Boars Tye since November 2019. From the moment I went to view the home I knew it was the right one. My children and I wanted somewhere that would feel like home and that is exactly what we found. The home has an exceptional team of staff who are simply phenomenal at
their jobs. The home is welcoming, homely and certainly doesn’t have a clinical feel about it which I think is so important. Nothing is too much trouble for any member of staff. All food is prepared and cooked on the premises and the weekly menus are great, lots of choices. The home is set in beautiful gardens with a recently built beautiful summer house for visiting. It also has a bright and airy conservatory at the back of the property overlooking the back garden which in the summer has hanging baskets and tubs full of flowers. On birthdays each resident gets a present and a birthday cake which is lovely. It is evident that the staff love their jobs and have a great team spirit between them.

Both my parents had dementia and we had to move them here as Dad was wandering at night (brought home twice in the back of a police car). Right from the outset, the care shown to Mum and Dad was outstanding, kind but also very professional. Sadly my parents recently passed away, Dad in May and Mum in
June; during this sad and stressful time, Boars Tye Residential Home Ltd did all that was possible to ensure that Mum and Dad were cared for with respect and dignity. Indeed, the care given went beyond mere care, it was love. I was able to come and go any time of day or night so as to be able to spend time with Mum and Dad in their last days. Boars Tye also cared for me, insisting on feeding me, even after I had refused anything and making sure that I was okay. I know that if in the future I ever need residential care for myself I should want to come to Boars Tye.
Reply from Ryan Wicks, Care Manager at Boars Tye HouseIt was an absolute pleasure having your mum and dad stay with us, Tony. They will be greatly missed. Please make sure you come and visit us for a cuppa!

In a thankless world, the staff at this residential care home really do put the emphasis on care. I can honestly say that I was amazed at the quality of care shown to the residents who because of their aliments and age are naturally challenging. I can't praise the team highly enough. The premises were
kept immaculate which given that they are a converted farmhouse is no mean feat! Thank you, everyone, at Boars Tye for taking such good care of my mother.

If I knew how caring the staff was, I would have looked at Dad coming here sooner. This is not just a job for everyone that works here. They really do care and made my Dad feel so special and loved. The home-cooked meals so tasty and Dad not being made to do things. He loved that if he wanted to go
and have a sleep, then he could. Really made me feel that he was in good hands and took so much pressure from me and made sure he was looked after in every way possible.

I contacted Boars Tye Residential home in March as my Mother cared for at home 24/7. Those carers came from abroad and wanted to return. I was able to place my Mum in this home, it is near where I live. Unfortunately, lockdown kicked in and I, sensibly, have not been able to visit. But contact by phone
has been helpful and weekly updates a bonus. Nothing is too complicated. We zoomed for her 101st Birthday. All excellent. Thank God.

We researched a number of care homes before settling on Boars Tye. There was something that stood out about the home from the moment we set foot inside. The empathy and care the staff displayed was of the highest standard. We were so pleased that our Father was able to spend seven happy months in the
company of such caring and enthusiastic people, perhaps our only regret was that he didn't get to spend longer there.
After a few weeks, it was clear his condition was improving with the company and the care he was experiencing, the Dementia had increasingly made him withdrawn, but seeing him more like his old self as the weeks went by was a delight. Clearly the training the staff receive made them well prepared for all the challenges Dementia and Alzheimers throws up. Meals were all home-cooked and delicious, Dad certainly put on weight in his time there. The rooms were kept spotless and the residents smartly dressed. Most importantly, Dad was happy. I have no hesitation in recommending Boars Tye.

My uncle was having home care which wasn't enough for him and resulted in him having a stay in hospital as he had become withdrawn and wasn't eating properly. Since he has been at Boars Tye his health has definitely improved, he enjoys the company and the lovely home-cooked food. He has told me he feels
safe and comfortable where he is and wishes he had moved in sooner.

Boars Tye House is very 'homely' and my father has soon settled in. Staff are professional and friendly. Any needs of my father have been taken care of swiftly. All areas are kept clean and safe and the freshly cooked food is amazing. The gardens are well kept. I am very happy with the care my father

Boars Tye is a wonderful residential home set within lovely gardens. My Dad has been a resident there since March 2019, during this time, the management and staff (team) have made the time and effort to really get to know him and to care for him in a way that recognises his individuality. The team have
been a great support to the family too.
I'm impressed by the low turnover of staff and the way in which the Management invests in regular staff training. My Dad loves the food, it's excellent home cooking and clearly has a great rapport with the team.

My mum has been a resident at this marvellous home since the beginning of July. She needed constant care following a mental breakdown so bad that she was unable to function on a daily basis. 5 weeks on she is a different person this I believe is totally down to the incredible care she has received from
the amazing hard working staff. Nothing is too much trouble for any staff member who all work together as a team. They are giving me my lovely mum back and for that, I am truly grateful. If I was able to give this home 10 stars it wouldn't be enough.

My mother has been at Boars Tye since early March 2019. All staff seem very happy in their work, therefore, creating a wonderful atmosphere for the residents and visitors alike. The kitchen provides nourishing meals and if not to the service users liking they will prepare what they ask for, nothing
seems to be too much trouble. All the staff seem to multi-task, including management, covering for illness or holidays. The training is on-going covering all aspects of care. Although my mother would, naturally rather be in her own home she realises that she needs care and is quite happy where she is, this to me is the most important thing as if mum's happy then I can relax knowing she is being well looked after.

Mum has been a resident since December last year as her dementia had sadly worsened. The Staff are lovely and Mum has become friends with them all.
The food is very good and home cooked (no microwave meals). Mum just says what she would like, nothing is too much trouble to prepare for her. I visit
3 or 4 times a week, often before I have sat down, my usual cup of coffee has been brought to me. My Dad has enjoyed meals with Mum at no extra bother to the staff, who always encourage him to do so. Her bedroom is pleasant and has everything she needs. The lounge is spacious and comfortable and staff are often sitting with residents, chatting about things they have enjoyed doing in the past and helping where needed with feeding and drinking. Even at busy times the staff and management make time for a smile and a wave and Mum always has a little smile and wave back. The home is nice, clean and comfortably warm with a pleasant view of the garden through the big windows in the lounge.

Current Review Score: 9.9 (9.910)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.9 (9.910) out of 10 for Boars Tye House is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 29 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 29 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.910 for Boars Tye House is calculated as follows: ( (307 Excellents x 5) + (26 Goods x 4) + (2 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 335 Ratings = 4.91
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Boars Tye House is based on 29 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 27 registered maximum number of service users is 5.4, which has been reached with 29 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
