My late partner received excellent care at Brook House. I was very impressed with all the staff. They were all very friendly, kind & caring. Nothing was too much trouble. The meals looked very appetizing

Mum was a resident for just over a year at Brook House and the care provided from arrival to her death was exceptional. She had always said that she never wanted to go into a home but it was necessary for her own safety. Her needs were well resourced and she formed close friendships with the care team which helped her feel more at home than she had in a long time. In the final months of her life, she lost the power of communication which caused her a great deal of frustration and distress. The team gave almost constant care and reassurance, providing better communication and understanding than I could - I was in awe of their compassion and humanity.

The team treated her with dignity and respect at all times and that is something that I will always treasure.

Before June this year, my mum, who has Vascular Dementia, was struggling immensely. She was a prisoner in her own home, scared to go out, and just barely existing. It was heartbreaking to see your loved one who had always been so strong, bubbly, and independent, deteriorate so quickly. She was not coping with being alone at home, she was scared and couldn't sleep. After much consideration, we decided that it was time for her to move into a care home, hoping she could "live" again. We had a shortlist of ten homes around the Essex area, which we narrowed down to four. From the very first phone call to Brook House, we knew we had made the right choice. The Deputy Manager, did not know my mum but took the time to ask about her and her needs and genuinely cared, which was truly priceless. The transformation in my mum since moving here has been nothing short of miraculous. She is now so full of life and looks ten years younger. She has made friends and participates in the activities.

My cousin is so well cared for and a popular resident. She has resided at Brook House for just over a year. On first entering the care home, she was frightened and disorientated, but has become calm and happy in her environment, always partaking in entertainment in house and lovely trips to choir in Halstead and the lunches out and the visits to nurseries.

My parents were finding it increasingly difficult to cope with being on their own at home. It was upsetting to see them scared and confused so we made the decision to find a care home which would suit their needs.

From our first meeting at Brook House, both the Manager and Deputy Manager have been so helpful. They totally understood our needs as well my parents and they went out of their way to find rooms which would suit my parents thus allowing them to carry on as if they were still in their own home.

The entire home is light and airy, spotlessly clean and a joy to be in. Every member of staff we have met has been happy in their work and very friendly and helpful.

The Manager and Deputy Manager have been incredibly supportive during recent weeks and have helped my Dad and myself through what has been a difficult time ....really over and above the call of duty. The Entertainments coordinator has been an absolute star getting my Dad to join in activities and keeping him busy.

My mum has been a resident for just over a year at Brook House.
When she first arrived she was confused and worried and scared. She was instantly met with a warm - reassuring face that help her to settle in.
Within a few days she was sleeping better, eating better and washing.
You could see she was relaxed with the staff and she felt comfortable.
All staff are welcoming and caring and you get a real family feel from everyone there.

My mum is safe and well looked after and because of this my mind is put at ease.

The overall care of my mother is outstanding. The staff go above and beyond duty of care. My mother was very poorly in December. We never expected her to make christmas. But shes doing well. Going out and joining in with others.

The manager keeps me well informed with changes, as I live 4 hours away from the home.

I cannot praise the manager and staff enough at Brook House. My father-in-law has been a resident for nearly two years now and throughout that time, he has had many challenges in his general health and well-being. These challenges have been met by the team with care, empathy and intelligence. As relatives, we have also felt supported and kept informed on a regular basis with any areas of concern and the staff are being creative with their ideas to resolve any issues. They are constantly reviewing procedures to change and improve on their already inclusive, caring and empowering work. They work well with other organisations to ensure the residents are enjoying the best care. I feel that my father is safe and secure at Brook House and that he is treated gently and with kindness at all times. The facility is always clean and tidy with friendly and helpful staff. It is pleasing to see that the residents have many trips out tailored to their needs and enjoyment. Highly recommended by us!

I am happy with Brook House's care for my father. Kind thoughtful, caring staff.

He has one-to-one staff. l do feel as though the care given could be better: more thoughtful, hygiene (hair washed smelling nice). I have asked for all my father's clothes that don't fit weeks ago, still waiting.

Reply from Patricia French, Registered Manager at Brook House

Good afternoon, thank you for submitting a review, your feedback greatly matters in improving our services. As you are aware, your father's care is provided by an external supplier and I have raised your concerns with them today and will be in contact directly to discuss. Thank you for your kind words about care staff and your five-star rating of management at Brook House. Kind regards, Patricia.

My mother moved to Brook House following on from my father passing in a home they were residing together, at which time (July 2024) we rapidly took the decision to move our mother with immediate effect. At the former home, she was very depressed (even prior to my father's passing) often saying she was living in a prison. She appeared very pale and totally unmotivated which we initially thought to be a decline in her condition however moving her to Brook House has proved we were wrong as since doing so, my mother has excelled virtually immediately. She is beautiful again in her appearance and blooming from within with a sparkle in her eyes, something we thought she had lost. The manager is a brilliant, hands-on manager, the senior and activity coordinator is amazing as is the deputy, also five members of staff, in particular, are outstanding and others too whom I do not yet know names. Outings and activities are outstanding too. At this time, after five months, I can honestly not yet fault Brook House.

I can't speak highly enough of Brook House Care Home and the team there, and I feel very fortunate that my mother was placed there. The staff have helped me through some difficult times, but it's the constant care and attention that I'm really grateful for. My mother is very well looked after and is treated with both affection and respect. And she's happy there; she's comfortable and settled. All the staff are friendly, helpful and approachable and it's a lovely building too, cleaned and maintained to a very high standard. Brook House has made this difficult time in my mother's life much easier and much more comfortable for her, and I'll always be grateful for that.

Mum has been at Brook House since August 2022. It's a well-decorated home, with fantastic staff. Mum is safe and very well looked after. The staff have made me feel very welcome, each time I visit and they are very approachable. The home has only been open, I believe, since June 2022, so there are not many residents, but I am sure if you are looking for a residential home for your loved ones, you won't be disappointed.

Charlotte CoeJob Title:Acting Care Home ManagerJoined: 2026

Drawing on more than two decades of experience in Health and Social Care, I am deeply committed to upholding strong ethical principles as a manager.

My philosophy centres on supporting residents to enjoy fulfilling and meaningful lives, especially during their later years. Achieving this requires genuine teamwork—not only among staff within the home, but also through close collaboration with family members, healthcare professionals, and by nurturing robust community relationships.

By embracing a holistic approach that takes into account each resident’s unique needs, we are able to empower them to maintain independence and make their own choices, no matter what physical or mental challenges they may face.

It is my belief that, by fostering a supportive and inclusive environment, we can help residents feel valued, respected, and in control of their daily lives, ensuring their well being is always at the heart of everything we do.
