What can I say. The care my mum received was top class. Within 12 hours of my mum being in the home she was showered which prior to this was non existent. The food she was given was excellent. My mum was not the easiest but they were Firm but kind and that never changed the kindness that was shown to her was lovely. Her end of life care was amazing and she had a very peaceful death for that i will always be in your debt

I am so happy that she was put there for respite. Kelly the home manager your staff are a credit and all I can say is thank you Maria.

Brilliant Care Home!
Umika Care Home is truly a home from home. The staff are caring, compassionate, and always go the extra mile to make residents feel loved and supported. It's such a warm and welcoming environment - we couldn't ask for a better forever home for our beloved mum.

A special thank you to Stacy, who is an amazing carer - kind, patient, and dedicated. Knowing Mum is in such good hands means the world to us.

Reply from Kelly Santa Cruz, Registered Manager at Umika Lodge Care Home

Thank you Julia for your kind words. It means so much to the staff and Stacey will be forever appreciative of the recognition. We thoroughly enjoy having Mum as part of the family and reminiscing with her about her past, it sounds like she has had an amazing life and we hope for that to continue with us for a long time!

My mother-in-law Yvonne has been at Umika Lodge since Sept 2021. Nothing is too much trouble for these wonderful carers. There are no nasty smells when you walk in and always clean and tidy. The staff are all so welcoming, friendly and entertaining! The activities including singers and parties they have are brilliant. The food is lovely and was even tempted to have Christmas dinner there last year. My partner was so worried when Yvonne first went to Umika but we have had no problems and the difference is amazing. This care home is the best by far as my own mother was in a care home in Vange near Basildon and it was abysmal. Well done Umika, keep up the good work.

Reply from Kelly Santa Cruz, Registered Manager at Umika Lodge Care Home

William, we cannot express how much these words means to myself and the staff. Yvonne always bring light to our lives and smiles on our faces. We have enjoyed the past 5 years and look forward to many more, celebrating many occasions with her, and your family.

Overall Experience
My father came to Umika Lodge in March 2023, he had previously had an unpleasant experience in a nursing home in Southend, so we were both a bit apprehensive. However, from when we arrived it was clear we didn't need to be. Umika has a lovely family atmosphere, it was warm and welcoming. Dad had some major health issues and had several hospital admissions during his time at Umika, he was always pleased to return there when he was discharged. Dad gave the carers quite a few challenges but they rose to and above the challenge every time.
Dad was well cared for during the last months of his life and although it was never easy to leave him when I visited, I was always confident that he was safe and comfortable. The care provided extended to me too, especially during his last few weeks.

I would definitely recommend Umika Lodge to anyone looking for a care home for a relative.

Thank you for your kind review. Dad and yourself are very missed by all. His banter with the staff always brought a smile to our faces. Dad was a pure delight to have as part of our family. We hope you will not be a stranger.

My mum has been with Umika since the beginning of May. I have seen a complete change in her for the better, she now joins in in the lounge, her voice is now strong as before it was a whisper where she had spent so much time on her own. She's eating extremely well and now has what she fancies. The staff are very friendly to both my mum and myself and always have a smile, and will always chat finding that extra minute to speak making you feel that your opinion is valued, I'm so happy that my mum is now living life with them instead of just existing and that is down to Umika staff which I really appreciate. I would like to say a big THANK YOU to all the staff as now she's happy I can relax, brilliant care.

Reply from Kelly Santa Cruz, Acting Home Manager at Umika Lodge Care Home

Thank you for these words. It has been amazing witnessing Mum flourish here. Seeing her get involved with the activities and exercises was just amazing. She too has worked so hard to get back onto her feet. It is our pleasure to support her in achieving all she has in the short time she has been with us. We look forward to seeing more!

Just wanted to update my review from last year. My nan is so settled in Umika Lodge Care Home, she has made so many new friends. The staff are also fantastic and you can see how much they care about their residents.
My nan continues to thrive being at Umika Lodge and as a family, we are forever grateful to all of the staff for ensuring she is always safe, happy and well looked after.
My nan also enjoys all of the daily activities Umika Lodge provides, and considering she has never really been someone who bakes or plays games, it’s been lovely to see her enjoying herself.

Thank you all.

Our dad recently passed away at Umika Lodge after a long battle with dementia. I cannot praise the home and staff enough. The home is clean, bright and well-maintained. The staff are all brilliant and showed such a lot of care for our dad.

Over the last few weeks, we visited daily and were welcomed every time and looked after. A big thank you.

My mother took up residence at the Umika Lodge 6 months ago. She has completely settled in and is very happy there. The staff are caring, friendly and easy to talk to. My mother loves the freshly cooked food and eats very well. She enjoys the external entertainer/singer and dances along. The staff made a fuss of my mother on her 80th birthday recently, which we really appreciated.

Thank you for your review! We have enjoyed helping Mum settle in. These times can be hard for all the family but we like to make everyone as welcome as possible. Soon the parties will be open to all! We have enjoyed watching her flourish and make friends on the dance floor.

My mum came to Umika Lodge in September 2021 and the difference in her is absolutely amazing. At home, she was not eating or taking her medication, but the home have somehow managed to help her put weight on and taking her medication is not a problem anymore. The staff are loving and very attentive and I know my mum has her down days but the staff are wonderful with her. If anyone is worried about putting their loved ones into Umika Lodge, all I can say is don't be. They are very professional and nothing is too much trouble. The parties they do for their residents are fantastic and my mum loves having a good dance and sing along. Well done all at Umika Lodge, keep up the good work.

Thank you very much for your kind words. Your mum is such a loving person and it is a pleasure to have her living with us at Umika Lodge and you as a relative. She is the ' life of the party' and it doesn't take much persuasion to get her up to dance.

I had a really bad fall and came to this care home, which was excellent in every way. I could not have asked for any better in the way of help and care. I was feeling very low and all the help that I received was good for my recovery. I needed to be fit to fly and all the staff had helped me on my way.

Review from Jean B (Partner of Resident) published on 27 August 2019 Submitted via Postal Card

Manager and staff most helpful and senior staff and carers were excellent. Cleanliness of service staff was excellent. Kitchen staff and cook, could not have asked for any better. My partner very much loves the Cherry Pie and eats all his dinners (really great). TV in his room and carer looking out for him made him feel good and progress to get and feel well in himself gave him the confidence to get well from a really bad fall in his home.

Since the care home has been under new ownership, the care and facilities have improved to a much higher standard.
