Skilfully converted from two hotels, Westerly boasts an interior that is ideal for residential care, while being homely, spacious, comfortably furnished and suitable for wheelchair users. Reviews

7.4 Westerley Christian Care Home has a Review Score of 7.4 (7.403)

The Review Score of 7.4 (maximum of 10) for Westerley Christian Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.2 out of 5 from 6 Reviews over all time. This Average Rating is also the rating value for Westerley Christian Care Home in Google's Search Results - more info

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 3.3 out of 5 from 1 positive Reviews in the last 12 months.

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating of all Reviews over all time. For each review the Care Home / service is rated Excellent, Good, Satisfactory, Poor or Very Poor on a number of areas eg Staff, Management etc. The Care Home receives points for each rating as follows: Excellent = 5. Good = 4. Satisfactory = 3. Poor = 2. Very Poor = 1. These points are added up and then divided by the total number of completed ratings to generate the average rating.

    The Average Rating of 4.153 for Westerley Christian Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (20 Excellents x 5) + (46 Goods x 4) + (4 Satisfactorys x 3) + (1 Poors x 2) + (1 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 72 Ratings = 4.153

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 12 months. If there are no Positive Reviews in the last 12 months, then 2.5 points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 2 years. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with 'Extremely Likely' or 'Likely' in answer to the question 'How likely are you to recommend this Care Home to friends and family if they needed similar care or treatment?'

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 5 Positive Reviews, 3 points for the first Positive Review and then 0.25 Points for each of the next 4 Positive Reviews.

    2. 1 point is available for reaching a target number of Positive Reviews based on 20% of the number of registered maximum number of service users. If the target is partially reached then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home with 50 registered maximum number of service users has a target of 10 Positive Reviews, if it has 10 or more Positive Reviews it will receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews will receive 0.7 points.

    3. If there are no Positive Reviews in the last 12 months, then 2.5 points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 2 years. The calculation is the same as above, except the points are divided by 2.

The 3.25 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Westerley Christian Care Home is based on 1 positive Reviews in the last 12 months and is calculated as follows:

    1. 3 = 3

    2. Target of 4 positive Reviews (20 registered maximum number of service users ÷ 5). 1 Reviews ÷ 4 Target = 0.250

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

This residence has a very homely atmosphere and very welcoming to visitors on arrival. The staff are friendly, very patient and kind towards the residents.
A separate library can be used for watching TV or for having guests.
Recently decorated and carpeted throughout, which improves the overall appearance.
Some new pieces of furniture would be nice, as the furniture in the individual rooms is rather shabby and worn - wardrobe door not securely fixed/bedside cabinet door sticks/ glass cabinet does not have the key to open the door, so difficult to open.
It would be better to return to a structured weekly activity programme. With regular activity, the residents have something to look forward to and more likely to participate. Without this stimulus, their physical and mental wellbeing suffers. If asked what they want to do, it is more likely to be met with indifference.
Although some comments have been negative, overall I can see that Mum is happy and that makes me happy too.

Simon Lee, Director of Care Services at Westerley Christian Care Home responded to this review on 19 May 2017:

Dear Anne, many thanks for your comments. We have taken them onboard and our activity program will be reviewed to ensure stimulation. We have a maintenance program for renewal of furniture and will look into your comments further and replace if necessary. Again we thank you for your constructive comments, we welcome these to better our service.

Care is good but frequently it is apparent that one extra staff member would make a big difference. Frequently the staff are too busy to spend time with someone in need. Sometimes a member of staff cannot be obtained when called.

I visit Westerley Christian Care Home on a regular basis and am always very impressed. The residents all seem happy and well cared for and there is a lovely family feel about the place. The staff are welcoming and respectful in their dealings with the residents and display compassion and care and act in a professional manner. I often arrive at meal times and the food always looks appetising and the menu seems to be very varied. Residents take part in activities within the home and are assisted to continue with their interests in the home or outside for example attending clubs. Management are always on hand to answer questions or discuss any problems.
I have recommended Westerley Christian Care Home in the past and will continue to do so.

My mother has been a resident at Westerley Christain Care Home since December 2014.
The staff are all very friendly and caring and Mum is treated with dignity and respect and is encouraged to be an independent as she can be.
They have a service most mornings and usually have communion once a month. The residents have activities during the week.
The food is good and the chef goes out of his way to provide an interesting and varied menu and also goes to great lengths to cater for each individual's needs.
I always feel very welcome and am kept regularly informed of Mum's progress.

I have recently had dealings with the assistant manager of this home, and have found her to be most constructive and sympathetic in implementing changes to support my mother's needs.
The home itself has a pleasant and welcoming atmosphere and staff are friendly and helpful.
The activities are good when held and staff are very inclusive of all residents, making sure everyone has an opportunity to participate.
There is an attractive garden where residents may sit during the summer and enjoy some sunshine and outdoor leisure.
