This care home is what you would wish for a loved one. The personal care shown by the team is outstanding. All residents are treated as respected individuals, and the team takes the time to get to know each person so that your loved one is embraced into the family-like atmosphere.

The hygiene standards

are excellent, and care is taken with each room, with little touches that make each resident feel like their room is their sanctuary. The overall feel of the care home is one of quiet professionalism. The staff are well-trained, kind, and highly professional. The residents are always encouraged to join in with activities and take time out if they wish. There is a structured approach to all meal times, and everyone is appropriately catered for. This care home was the best thing to have happened to my relative. I know they are safe, loved and happy here.

My Nan moved into Whitehaven in December 2023 and has settled in very well.
We are so very grateful to all the staff, as they are so lovely and kind, and nothing is too much trouble, we have lots of updated on my Nan's health, etc.
Would recommend this care home, and how lovely the staff are.

Whitehaven is amazing! My grandmother moved in last December and from day one, all the staff made her (and her family) feel very welcome.
The staff are always so friendly, kind and caring. They take such good care of their residents, that nothing is too much trouble for them.
My grandmother is 95
years old. Her room is always kept clean and tidy. If there are any health concerns with my grandmother, Whitehaven will always keep us updated. Thank you, Whitehaven!

My mum has been a resident at Whitehaven for a year and a half. From the beginning, the staff and owner have been so kind, patient and professional treating myself and my mum with care. I have learnt a lot about Mum's illness through spending time at Whitehaven. They are always finding ways to stimulate
the residents which is a joy to witness and be a part of. Only last week I attended the garden party and it was a lovely day and the staff made it so!

Mum was only in Whitehaven Care Home for a short time in the later stages of life, but in that time, the manager and her team made her very comfortable. They were very kind and attentive and very welcoming to myself and our family. She had a lovely downstairs room with views on to the garden. The staff
were all very happy and professional in their jobs whilst also creating a family feeling. My sister and I were pleased that Mum had a bit of normality after months of being in and out of hospital and only wished we’d made the move earlier and we’d like to thank everyone involved in her care.

Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5
My late sister-in-law lived at Whitehaven for five years. The care she received was amazing, she was always clean and tidy and neatly dressed, and her room had lots of her personal possessions to make it homely. I was always made welcome when visiting, and as I couldn’t come very frequently as I don’t
live nearby I would receive photos of her doing activities. There always seemed to be outings and celebrations to join in. All the staff were so caring and coped with her various medical setbacks, especially during her last few weeks. The album made of her time at Whitehaven was a lovely memento for her sons. The reason for the facilities rating is that a bit more room to take indoor exercise would have been nice.

Whitehaven has more than surpassed my expectations. When looking at care homes for my aunt who suffers from Alzheimer's, I wanted somewhere where she would be well cared for, treated with dignity, her individuality would be respected, any interests encouraged and where she would also be stimulated.
It was also important that the ethos of the home would be one of family.
Alzheimer’s presents many challenges, not only for the sufferer, but for those who are responsible for their care. I cannot thank the manager or the staff enough for their patience, understanding and kindness shown to my aunt for the excellent care she has received since becoming a resident 22 months ago.
Residents are encouraged to take part in a variety of in-house activities, as well as outings to cinema and music clubs.
The atmosphere at Whitehaven is that of a family home. I visit regularly and feel very much part of the Whitehaven family. It is lovely to see that my aunt has regained her ‘sparkle’.

Dear Mum passed away two months ago at Whitehaven where she had lived for 15 months. The care the staff and management gave Mum was nothing short of exceptional, such a lovely family atmosphere and so caring. From the very first ‘look-see’ visit we knew this was the right place for Mum. Being fiercely
independent in spirit she wasn’t the easiest of residents to please and look after, but in time she came to regard Whitehaven as her home. I loved visiting, felt part of the Whitehaven family and miss it, lots. And within the restrictions of that terrible disease, dementia, Mum was relatively happy. The food (much appreciated by Mum) is great, and clothes and rooms kept clean and fresh. Activities every day with parties and gifts on special occasions. The manager and many staff came to the funeral and at the wake gave me a Memories book with photos of Mum and tributes, hugely personal and touching. My Auntie, Mum’s sister, was also very appreciative of the care Mum was given.

I regularly sing the praises of the care team at Whitehaven, who have supported my friend, who has dementia (and I) for 2 years plus. I visit often and the experience is always positive. There is a relaxed, homely feel to Whitehaven, the residents, despite their challenges, always appear content. The
care staff are very attentive and treat residents respectfully, the activities are very inventive and certainly not repetitive and residents engage with them well. Other pluses are that the food is home cooked, the level of cleanliness high and having resident pets is perfect for our friend and a real asset to the homely feel.

Mum has been part of the Whitehaven family for 11 months now. I use this wording as it is the strong ethos of this very special small independent care home. The home is superbly managed by the manager and her team and the care staff are excellent. Each resident is cared for uniquely and special days
like birthdays and seasons like Christmas are made personal with cakes, gifts and all you would expect for a family member. As a visitor, I feel part of this special family too. Nothing ever seems too much trouble. The residents have daily activities and regular outings. These are open to all but there is no pressure to take part. My mum can become quite agitated at times and I often arrive to a member of staff sitting next to her, chatting and reassuring her. I wholeheartedly recommend Whitehaven to anyone looking for a home, particularly for a relative or friend with dementia. My family are extremely thankful to have found such a lovely home for Mum.

My mum initially went to Whitehaven for respite care and then later as a resident. The home really does feel and look like a home and all residents and staff are one big happy family - including the resident dogs and cats!
The chef cooks wonderful meals, we were surprised how well my mum has eaten
since being here. There is a lovely garden, which we used a lot in the warmer months. The care and support is personal for each resident.
Everyone is encouraged to join in activities but never pressured. The manager and staff initially asked us all about Mum as a person and got to know her past and the family, which meant that they could tap into her memories and tailor activities to her interests. Families are welcome to visit at any time and always have the option to join in with visits, meals and activities if they wish. I don't live nearby, and staff were always happy to talk to me on the phone and to support my mum to talk to me too. I would thoroughly recommend Whitehaven to anyone.

My wife had been resident in Whitehaven for approx 14 months. She has Alzheimer's so probably difficult at times but all the staff seem very well trained to cope in all situations. Staff always find time to talk, to both residents and visitors. Nothing seems to be too much trouble. Outings to the cinema,
garden centre or singing groups are a regular feature. Activities within Whitehaven are numerous and varied on several days each week. Unfortunately, my wife was taken ill and was quickly transferred to hospital. Whilst in hospital, she was regularly visited by a member of management or carer staff on most days until the hospital staff reported that she would have to be discharged to a Nursing Home to fully manage her new condition. Our family are sure that my wife's life has been enriched by the care and dedication of all at Whitehaven Care Home.

A special care home, where staff are genuinely responsive and care.
My mother was a resident here for 3 years.
She sadly passed away in July 2017.
No one could have received more loving, respectful and conscientious care at the end of their life.
The staff took huge care of my mother and us as a
family, allowing us to give our mum a dignified death in her own room with all her family around her.
We feel so fortunate that mum lived here for the last few years of her life.

My mother has been in Whitehaven Care Home since August 2016 during this time she was treated with dignity and respect.
Whenever I visit her, she is always clean and well cared for. The staff treat mum with respect and always have time for her care and wishes. The owner of the home always works to
provide a relaxed environment for the resident and her staff are a credit to her in their exemplary behaviour towards the residents. I could not wish for a better environment for my mother to spend her final years.

My auntie is very well looked after, she tells me all the staff are very caring to all the residents. We have had no concerns as to any aspects of the care and standards within the home. It is lovely when we go to visit my aunty to see lots of items and pictures that have been made in the weekly craft
sessions. The number of personal extras that are arranged in the home for example hairdresser, GP and Chiropodists make life easier for the residents. We are encouraged to visit and join in a number of events which keep the family involved.

They are all very pleasant.

Current Review Score: 9.4 (9.400)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.4 (9.400) out of 10 for Whitehaven Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 5 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.5 out of 5 from 5 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.900 for Whitehaven Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (54 Excellents x 5) + (6 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 60 Ratings = 4.9
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Whitehaven Care Home is based on 5 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 = 3.5
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 15 registered maximum number of service users is 3, which has been reached with 5 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
