If you’d like to join your loved one at mealtime and help support them, you’re very welcome to do so — just have a quick chat with the team beforehand so they can make the right arrangements. If Government guidance ever changes (for example, during situations such as COVID-19), the home always follows the latest advice to keep everyone safe and well.

Overall Experience
Being in Whitehaven is like being in your own home, with caring help. The rooms are clean, warm and inviting. The staff are friendly and caring, sitting and talking to the residents. Food can be changed to personal taste. Fluid intake is encouraged, personal hygiene is high.

Management is present and approachable. There is almost daily activity to engage and stimulate. I can only highly recommend the home.

From Day 1, Whitehaven wrapped my mother in a warm blanket of care. After investigating 11 facilities, I was relieved to discover that we had finally found the home she needed. I never once regretted our decision.

My mother’s combination of Alzheimer’s/Dementia plus other health problems and physical limitations posed a major challenge. She needed professionals with a particular set of skills, professionalism, patience and understanding. Also, I live thousands of miles overseas. So regular, reliable communication with people we could trust was vital. Whitehaven met all these challenges and more.

From June 2008 to September 2012, my mother thrived at Whitehaven, with its family atmosphere and culture of respect for individuals. I saw her happier there than she had been in years. She genuinely regarded it as Home, sometimes, when there were a lot of visitors, wondering aloud what all these people were doing in “her” house.

Whenever I arrived, sometimes unannounced, everything was spotless and fresh, bathrooms immaculate, and my mother always clean and nicely dressed. She enjoyed the food, seeming to have a better appetite than before. The atmosphere was upbeat and positive, with plenty of activities and celebrations to keep residents engaged.

I was emailed frequent updates on my mother’s situation, including photos of her not just on special occasions like birthdays and holidays, but simply showing her happy and contented. Staff maintained regular contact with her GP and other medical professionals involved in her care. The manager immediately alerted me to any problem by phone/email, and followed up with the action taken and resolution. I never felt out of touch but always part of a team working together for her.

I will always be grateful for the care the people of Whitehaven gave my mother that kept her healthy, safe and content.

A warm welcome at first meeting with the manager. The home is compact, clean and homely and mums room overlooking the garden is lovely. We always found the staff friendly, caring, available and coping admirably with the differing needs and demands of the residents. Activities are always taking place to stimulate residents, regular drinks and biscuits offered to all (and guests!) We are so pleased to have chosen Whitehaven for our mum. She passed away peacefully on Saturday 30th January and was well looked after by the managers team. Thanks
