Tile House is a small dementia-friendly care home in Shanklin, rated Good by the CQC across all areas (March 2019). It combines professional care with a homely atmosphere, giving families reassurance and residents a place that feels friendly and familiar.

Staff take time to know each person properly, shaping care around both health needs and the little things that matter most. That might be a morning routine, a favourite song, or the comfort of familiar belongings in a room.

Life at Tile House has a light touch and a sense of fun. Creative afternoons are a regular feature, whether that is music and singalongs, crafts, or baking together. There are also regular outings, and in the past residents have enjoyed boat rides on the Solent and trips to the seaside. Birthdays are celebrated warmly, making sure residents feel valued and part of the community.

Meals are freshly cooked on site, adapted to individual tastes, with time in the secure garden or a walk into Shanklin for those who enjoy the fresh air. Modern touches such as Wi-Fi and en-suite rooms are available, but the real warmth comes from the everyday humour and companionship shared between staff and residents.

Tile House is not just a care home. It is a small, close-knit community built on kindness, respect and good spirits, where families can be confident their loved ones are cared for properly every day.

Visits are easy to arrange and usually available within the week. Message or call today to find a time that suits.

The moment you step into Tile House you get a feeling of love and a family atmosphere. The staff are very attentive and caring to all the residents. The building is clean and well maintained and the food is excellent. The home is run by a very efficient and approachable management team. I am very fortunate

I have nothing but praise for the care my husband is receiving at Tile House. The staff are so kind and he could not be looked after better in any way. They seem to care about him as an individual despite his dementia. Tile House has such a happy atmosphere - it is a delight to visit my husband there.

My husband arrived at Tile House in September 2024 with Alzheimer's increasingly progressing. In the 8 months of residency the staff attended to his needs, professionally, caring with patience at challenging times. During his last days the staff ensured his comfort and gave 24-hour watch. I would recommend
Tile House without hesitation.

My mother has been a resident in Tile House for over 2 years. During this time family and friends have maintained contact with her on a regular basis, facilitating outside visits and trips to maintain her quality of life. This has been a great supplement to the wonderful Tile House environment which
has consistently provided high levels of quality care and support. The staff and management are a great team - cheerful, courteous, welcoming and sensitive to the needs of residents and families. Communication is excellent. A range of interesting and stimulating activities are provided in the house and garden setting during the year. The house is well-decorated, clean, warm and inviting, creating a good atmosphere. I unhesitatingly recommend Tile House to any prospective client!

Current Review Score: 9.5 (9.471)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.5 (9.471) out of 10 for Tile House is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 6 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.6 out of 5 from 6 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.871 for Tile House is calculated as follows: ( (61 Excellents x 5) + (9 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 70 Ratings = 4.871
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.6 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Tile House is based on 6 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 = 3.6
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 19 registered maximum number of service users is 3.8, which has been reached with 6 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
