We were extremely happy and reassured by the way Mum was cared for at Barton Court.
The accommodation is always spotlessly clean and the décor is bright, airy and cheerful - beautifully decorated with plenty of photos and examples of residents' art of craft work. Mum liked the food and the menus looked
great.
Residents were gently encouraged to take part in any of a full and varied programme of activities - yet another side of Barton Court which is really impressive and reassuring.
The staff are extremely competent and hard working. They treated Mum with so much respect and kindness - it made a huge difference to her and to us. They were also very vigilant. On any occasion when she needed extra medical attention it was picked up and actioned extremely promptly.
We were always made most welcome, when visiting and kept fully informed at all times. We could not possibly have asked for better residential care for Mum. A huge "Thank you" to all the staff.
Reply from Charlene Freshwater, Registered Manager at Barton Court Care Home LtdThank you so much for your incredibly kind words and for taking the time to share your experience at Barton Court.
We are delighted to hear that your mum felt so well cared for and supported during her time with us. It means a great deal to our whole team to know that the care, kindness and reassurance provided made such a positive difference to both your mum and your family.
Your comments about our staff, activities, environment and communication are truly appreciated and will be shared with the entire team, who work very hard to ensure residents feel safe, respected and at home.
Thank you once again for your trust and recommendation. It was a privilege to care for your mum and support your family.

Visiting Barton Court recently to visit a resident was a very pleasant experience. It was, as usual, clean and bright with happy (but not intrusive) music playing. The tea trolley came round with drinks and biscuits for everyone. The staff were, as usual, friendly and helpful.

Mum initially entered Barton Court for respite care, following which she then stayed for 2 years.
The care home was local and staffed by a wonderful and consistent team of carers under the supervision of a very capable management team.
All staff were approachable, helpful, considerate and competent.
All issues, however minor, were addressed in a timely and satisfactory manner.
Good systems and procedures were evident, particularly during COVID and other infectious outbreaks.
Mum was well looked after in terms of care; moreover, there were well organised events both in and outside of the home with numerous trips out.
The home was regularly and thoroughly cleaned which was evident on all family visits.
The food and general hygiene was very good.
All in all, we were very pleased with Mums stay at Barton Court, and wouldn't hesitate to recommend the home to any elderly and frail person with dementia.
A big thank you to all the staff.

Barton Court Care Home provided Mum with a lovely, clean, warm room. They were very accommodating when it came to Mum wanting her own bed and chair in her room.
The staff were very good at recognising any health problems Mum had and always kept in contact if any occurred.
Security at the home was
very good.
We were always made welcome.

I feel my Mum has been well looked after, ever since she has been in the home, I feel she is safe and happy. The staff are very approachable, and friendly. Also, I feel I can visit my Mom whenever I feel I need and want to see her. I am so pleased we were able to get her in Barton Court, as a family
we could not give her the care and attention she needs. We hated to have her away from us, but they have helped ease the pain with their support and care.

My dad became a resident in Barton Court in October 2022 after being moved from another care home as he was very unhappy.
I cannot thank the staff enough for the care they give to my dad. He is now happy and content, joins in with outings and different activities within the care home.
The home is
very clean, staff are friendly and nothing is too much trouble
I would definitely recommend this care home to anyone looking.

I came to Barton Court in May this year just to see what it was like. I have now decided to stay for good. I have found the place is cleaned every day and is always bright and has plenty of fresh air. The carers and all staff are very friendly and helpful... could not do enough for you. They give you
plenty of varied meals, and if you wanted more, you only have to ask. There are three gardens to sit in, one with exercise machines. The doctor comes once a week if you need to see him. Also, the hairdresser and chiropodist. The entertainment - there is something going on every day if you want to join in. Also, outings in the minibus and two or three barbecues, weather permitting. Entertainers come to the home. I think I have found the best care home.

My dad had been at Barton Court for 6 months and I can highly recommend the facilities and care he has. He suffers from severe dementia and some mobility problems which are both managed respectfully and patiently.
In my experience, all staff, without exception, are resident focused and will spend whatever
time is needed to ensure residents are safe and content.
The surroundings are very light, spacious and airy with outdoor areas available in the warm dry weather. There is also a varied variety of activities available for anyone who wishes to take part including trips out. The menu on offer is always varied.
My dad's occasional medical needs are always attended to by visiting Healthcare professionals along with a visiting hairdresser and podiatrist.
Since moving here from another care home my dad has made great progress due to all the reasons I've mentioned.
If you are looking for a fantastic care home then you really should give Barton Court serious consideration.

Barton Court was our first choice. The staff are very pleasant and work hard, sometimes feel they are understaffed for the huge amount of work Covid safety has put them under, Covid testing, etc. Also, many more residents now since my mum went in, in January 2020. There is always a clean and well-presented
building and meet the needs of residents as best they can.
Reply from Stephen Gilmour, Owner at Barton Court Care Home LtdVivienne, thank you for your kind words! We finished the 16 bedroom extension to Barton Court in December 2020, and we are gradually attracting residents into the new rooms. The new lounges have been very well received, and the new courtyards allow for residents and visitors to be safe outdoors. We even have exercise equipment suitable for residents. The COVID procedures have been very onerous for both staff and visitors, and we hope that you are happy that the home has been kept COVID free. It feels that all the hard work has paid off and our normal programme of activities will soon resume.

During the height of the pandemic, we were forced to put my father into Barton Court after he nearly burned down the house. For the first 5-days, he kept telling us he wanted to go home. But then, suddenly, after such a short period, he settled in and became comfortable and happy. Thanks to the attention
of the excellent staff, especially the activities director, he started taking part in group activities and socializing. He enjoyed doing jigsaw puzzles again for the first time in many years, and he walks around much more than he ever did at home. They took him on a bus trip around the island, and he was so excited; he told us that he saw places he never knew existed on the island. Despite not being able to visit in person during the pandemic, we have been kept very well informed of his progress, and in speaking with him, it is clear that his quality of life has improved dramatically. We couldn’t be happier that we chose Barton Court.
Reply from Charlene Freshwater, Registered Manager at Barton Court Care Home LtdThank you for your kind review, Keith, it is a pleasure to have your father here with us at Barton Court. We look forward to the eases of lockdown to enable Dad to explore more of the Island and to begin our regular outings to the zoo, local theatres and many more places.

My father has been a resident of Barton Court Care Home for nearly three years now. He suffered a stroke ten years ago, which resulted in a permanent brain injury, and this led to a number of ongoing medical issues, meaning that he is unable to care for himself and requires permanent care. The staff
at Barton Court took time to understand my father's needs and have tailored his care to his personal needs. Aside from the care he receives, the activities (pre-Covid) are second to none, and it gives us much joy to look at the photos of what he has been up to on the Facebook page. When we visit him, he is always happy to go back to the home, and the staff are always friendly to both me and his grandkids. We would highly recommend the home to any family who is looking for somewhere for a loved one to stay.

We reluctantly had to put my father-in-law into care. All the staff at Barton Court were very reassuring and helped to make that hard decision, which we now realise was the right decision as he has Alzheimer’s and needs a lot of specialist care which we, unfortunately, could no longer support him with.
It’s nice to know and reassuring that he is well looked after particularly so in this pandemic. We have no worries or concerns about his welfare and his care. All the staff are very professional and caring we are pleased that we made the right decision by putting him into Barton Court, we would highly recommend them.

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.4 (9.429) out of 10 for Barton Court Care Home Ltd is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 10 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.6 out of 5 from 10 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.802 for Barton Court Care Home Ltd is calculated as follows: ( (94 Excellents x 5) + (21 Goods x 4) + (1 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 116 Ratings = 4.802
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.627 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Barton Court Care Home Ltd is based on 10 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 = 3.75
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 57 registered maximum number of service users is 11.4. 10 Positive Reviews ÷ 11.4 = 0.877
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
