Very helpful and caring and nothing is too much trouble. My wife is well looked after and any problems are reported to me either when I visit or by telephone if serious. Overall, very pleased.

The care that my mum receives at St Brelades is very good.
I obviously can only comment on what I see and hear when I am at the care home visiting Mum.
The staff all seem lovely and are very friendly. They often pop into Mum's room when I am there and have a chat with Mum and myself.
Since Mum has been at the care home, which is a couple of years, she seems better in herself than before she went in there. The staff seem very caring, and nothing is too much bother for them.

Recently, I have seen a lot of work being carried out at the home, which is good, as it was looking a bit unloved after Covid times.

The staff at St Brelades are caring and helpful. My mum is always clean and tidy, her hair done, her nails done. On the odd occasion, she is in her slippers and pyjamas because she does not want to get dressed, they are always very apologetic and explain the reasons why she is not dressed for visitors. The staff are always happy to make time to discuss any questions or concerns I have regarding my mum's health or care. The staff are always keeping the ladies entertained with crafts, music, film afternoons, memory tasks and seasonal fun.

I have visited on two occasions and have been very impressed. The staff are friendly and helpful, always resident-focused. The atmosphere is clean, yet homely. Visitors are welcomed, served refreshments etc. Having worked in a number of care settings I am impressed by this one. Residents appear calm and settled and enjoy a variety of activities.

My mother recently passed away at St Brelades aged 98 after five years of wonderful care. She was very happy there, as is her sister who is still there. The staff are always kind and gentle and welcoming to visitors at all times. The end of life care she received was so much better than if she’d passed away in hospital. A big thank you to all the staff who worked especially hard during COVID to keep everyone safe. My mother couldn’t have been in a better place.

Thank you for writing such a lovely review. We appreciate your kind comments especially at this difficult time. We miss your mother and have fond memories of the times we shared with her and will continue to speak of her fondly especially with her beloved sister. I will pass your kind comments on to the staff.

Overall Experience
My mother was at St Brelades for just over four years. She entered under different management, and I worried greatly when there was a change of management about 18 months into her time there, but they retained crucial/long-standing staff. (Some staff members have been there 14+ years, form strong bonds with the residents and are passionate about making a difference to those in their care).
At the end of my mother's life, I visited the home at obscure times - into the evening and over staff shift changes. My mother's room was fairly central to the home (ground floor), but the staff would not have known I was there. I heard only kindness spoken to the residents, some of whom could be quite challenging.

My mother was not the easiest person, but she was treated with compassion and respect throughout. At the end of her life, it was very clear that she had been looked after by staff who knew her; knew her likes and dislikes, and had built a positive relationship with her; all of which is essential.

My brother-in-law and I cannot praise the home too much for their care of my sister.

From being a very unhappy and muddled lady, she is now so relaxed and happy. The amount of thought they give to every resident's need is brilliant.

Overall Experience
My mother has been a resident at St Brelades for 8 years now. Her deterioration with dementia has been a slow process indeed. From the time of her 95th birthday last December, she has been totally bed bound. However, throughout her stay the standard of care from staff has been excellent and that excellence comes from experience.

The only blot on the landscape has been clothing laundry. It is not for me to pick the battle with the staff involved but complaints to management have yielded little noticeable improvement.

Reply from Cathy Chuck, Manager at St Brelades
We welcome comments and feedback from our service users and their families and friends as these offer us valuable information about our service delivery.

We are sorry to note the ongoing issues with this service user's laundry. Measures were put in place to ensure that delicate garments were not...

Overall Experience

The care my mother has received since being a resident of St Brelades Care Home has been excellent. The staff are attentive, thoughtful and kind and have always treated my mother with respect and dignity. They have taken the time to get to know my mother well and understand her needs. My mother is treated as an individual, and the staff have formed a special bond with her. Although my mother has advanced dementia, she is keeping very well and takes pleasure in activities and human contact.

St Brelades is a care home which sees the person beneath the dementia and respects the fact that the individual had a full life before the disease took hold and changed them. I wouldn't hesitate in recommending the home to anyone who has a friend or relative needing expert care in a loving homely environment.
