The care home in which our mother is a resident is overall very good. (Our mother has Dementia) The reason I haven't given it 5 stars is that, although our mother can he difficult, our gripe is with her hearing aids. At times when we visit, she hasn't got them in, and times like when I went to visit
her yesterday, she did have them in, but they weren't switched on. Another small gripe is that some of her clothes go missing only for us to see other residents wearing them, even though her name and room number is inside the garments/shoes.

Thank you very much for your feedback and for bringing these concerns to light. We have invested in sensory training and 1-1 training sessions for the hearing aids, as some are not clear and different…read more

Riverlea is a wonderful home. It's light and airy and very clean, it doesn't smell. The carers and cleaners are absolutely brilliant. So caring. They have regular activities and most importantly they don't treat our elderly as children. They treat them as their elderly parent - they have a small bar
called the Drunken Duck and if somebody wants a glass of wine or beer they can have it. My mum doesn't have dementia, but the home is mixed and everybody gets used to it and help each other. Best care home I could have hoped for - and I saw a few before I decided this was best. Mum loves it and I know staff are loving mum as she's a feisty old bird that will give them a run for money. I'm saving up for a room - it's really good.

The staff are what really makes Riverlea House. Super helpful, caring, patient, interested and professional at all times. We have been very impressed with and grateful for the help we have had in transitioning Mum to residential care, they have been with us every step of the way, nothing has been too
much trouble. Even to the extent of accommodating Mum with her particular likes and dislikes, e.g. brown bread, fresh fruit etc! Riverlea House is in a lovely location, nestled in the very picturesque village of River with a garden backing onto the River Dour. I cannot recommend it highly enough.

I have nothing but praise for Riverlea Care Home, especially the manager. Our situation was complex, but she supported us every step of the way, ensuring my mum's smooth transition from an inadequate placement. Thanks to her dedication, my mum has improved significantly.
A professional involved in
our case recently described Riverlea as the best care home he has seen since Covid.
The staff are welcoming, creating a true sense of community within a safe and nurturing environment. There are a range of activities and events. Food and drink are plentiful.
Moving my mum to Riverlea last year was the best decision we could have made. I'm truly grateful for the care provided and highly recommend.

Relating to my Mothers room, which is kept clean and tidy, my Mother is well looked after. There is always plenty to eat, meals are of good quality. Drinks are provided throughout the day. There are a variety of activities if you wish to participate in. Visitors are always welcome. I feel reassured

Every visit I make to my mums I get updates on mums health. Staff are always very friendly and get offered a cup of tea. I live in Wimbledon so it takes me a good three hours to get to the home I get emails on what my mum needs a top-up on spending money toiletries etc.

Since the amount of choice at mealtimes has been reduced, the quality of food has improved.
When I call for assistance, staff always attend as soon as they can.
The staff are generally courteous and considerate.
The manager is always willing to be available when I wish to speak with her.

Mum has settled in well, after a few months of initial adjustment!
Any concerns raised with me are passed on by myself to staff, who then deal with them.
Management is excellent.
Care Home has helped with arranging transport for Mum to attend hospital appointments. This has been very welcome if the
family are unable to assist on the day.

My brother has been a resident at Riverlea House since April 2023, and in my opinion, the care for him by the staff at the home has been first-class. He had a severe stroke that has meant he has a high dependency on the care home, he needs assistance with washing, dressing, food, and toilet functions,
as he is unable to walk and has limited coordination. He also has diabetes and gets tested twice a day and is given insulin based on the test results, along with various other medications prescribed by his doctors, He gets constant care and attention, his room is cleaned daily, and meals, snacks, and drinks are provided. I have witnessed this in person during visits and on video calls. He is very happy with the care home, the staff, and the services provided. He does not participate very much in activities, due to his condition and that some activities do not interest him.

What a fantastic afternoon - we were invited to join my mum for a Christmas lunch and entertainment. The welcome was first-class and the meal was excellent - the chef and her team out did themselves - as good as any restaurant. Thank you all for a perfect afternoon, we thoroughly enjoyed it.

Mum has been living at Riverlea House for almost two years now, she is very happy there and always says how lovely the staff are, with an open door policy, we are always welcome to visit whenever we like and stay for as long as we like. Family are invited to all functions and we have just spent the
afternoon having a Christmas lunch which was absolutely lovely. If Mum has health issues, I am contacted immediately. Overall, I feel Mum is safe and well cared for.

Mum has been at Riverlea for almost 2 years.
Since her arrival, she has always seemed settled when we visit.
The staff are really welcoming when we visit. Mum loves the staff and says they are 'lovely'.
A recent medical issue has been handled sensitively and with the local GP/hospital. We have been
kept up to date with what's happening.

Mum has been a resident at Riverlea for over 2 years and settled in well, the staff are really kind and caring.
When we visit they always let us know what is going on with Mum's care.
She is cautious and always clean and well-fed.
The little things like the availability of the hairdresser and someone
doing her nails is really good as well.

This care home is a safe and caring environment which feels like a home from home for the residents. The rooms and communal areas are clean and fresh with good seating and bright and attractive decorations that reflect the seasons. The staff and manager understand my mother and are always respectful
and responsive to her needs which have been challenging on occasions. They welcome visitors and are obviously invested in supporting the wider family by providing personalised care for residents.
I would highly recommend a visit if you are looking for a residential placement for a family member.

Amazing care home. The first thing we were told was let us do the worrying, enjoy spending time with your mum. Since mum has been living there for the last year a weight has been lifted. There were the usual feelings of guilt and failing her but the care she gets is outstanding. Residents are treated
with care and dignity. We recently had a medical incident where Mum was taken very ill whilst out with us. We were only a few minutes from the home and cannot thank them enough for all the calm and professional care with Mum but also with us. We were terrified we would lose Mum and the manager and care staff were so supportive, reacted quickly to minimise Mum's distress and provided lots of reassurance. Mum now refers to Riverlea as home, which we thought would never happen. There is always an activity to keep her entertained and I have not heard Mum laugh so much for a long time. Thank you everyone for being so caring. The home is spotless, food is amazing and the staff are caring.

Current Review Score: 9.7 (9.687)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.7 (9.687) out of 10 for Riverlea House is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.7 out of 5 from 18 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 18 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.737 for Riverlea House is calculated as follows: ( (157 Excellents x 5) + (49 Goods x 4) + (3 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 209 Ratings = 4.737
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.95 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Riverlea House is based on 18 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 3.95
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 44 registered maximum number of service users is 8.8, which has been reached with 18 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
