Overall Experience
Dad has been at Mendip Lodge since March 2025, initially for 2 weeks respite care when his "at home" carer was on holiday. He has moderate/severe dementia and very restricted mobility. Both my sister and myself were very impressed with the home, the carers, environment, freshly cooked meals and kindness that we decided Dad should stay rather than returning to his bungalow. This was a great decision and after a short while Dad settled well and we have found the carehome outstanding. Dad has been poorly recently and the staff were prompt at getting the relevant medical support and after a short stay in hospital he returned to Mendip Lodge. The staff were brilliant keeping in contact with us and updating us on his condition.

At the weekend Dad turned 90, a real milestone. The home helped us celebrate with close family by organising a fantastic tea party celebration in the lovely garden. We would unreservedly recommend the home to anyone looking for a "special place" for a family member.

Mum came to Mendip Lodge for respite care. She stayed in a pod, giving her a sense of independence.Although Mum wasn't the run of the mill 91 year old ALL the staff, from cleaners to managers welcomed her and got to know her.
Two carers,in particular , worked hard to gain her trust. They understood what made her 'tick', it was lovely to watch the banter and laughter between them all. A keen cook , Mum loved the freshly cooked food, anything she wanted was cooked or bought for her
Sadly Mum's condition deteriorated but throughout we were well informed we felt as cared for as Mum was. We visited whenever we wanted, sometimes staying overnight, always welcomed
The experienced team were determined to access the best medical care for mum but always balancing it with her well being
Mum passed away so peacefully

The biggest compliment we can pay is that when funeral directors 'collected' Mum they asked of those in the room who were family and who were staff. Thank you all of you

All the staff at Mendip lodge were friendly and accommodating. My dad stayed with them for 3 months recuperating and made such a good recovery he was able to return home stronger, healthier and more able. Mendip Lodge has a welcoming home-from-home atmosphere and always felt optimistic for its residents when I was there. Well done everyone, your dedication is superb.

Thank you very much for your feedback and it means a lot to all of us. I personally saw the progress that Dad made from the time he was in the hospital to when he got discharged from Mendip Lodge. We loved looking after Dad and great to know that he is doing well at home.

My husband was a resident of Mendip Lodge for more than 3 months in 2024. He was recovering from a fall followed by a long stay in hospital. As soon as I stepped into Mendip Lodge I knew it was the right place for him. It's homely, warm and everyone was friendly. When the manager said they could take him a huge worry was lifted from me. To this day I can't thank the manager enough. All the staff were caring, cheerful and very hard working. The food was freshly cooked every day and as my husband's health improved he enjoyed all of it and looked forward to mealtimes. The staff looked after every aspect of his personal care and he was very well cared for. I knew he was in safe hands and that meant such a lot to me. He is now home and doing well. Thank you to all the staff, without exception, for looking after him so well.

The care home staff have been fantastic. My father has been in the care home for over 12 months, they made him welcome from day one, sadly he has deteriorated in that period due to his condition but the care home adapted to him. What is also good he has consistency with the same staff at the lodge.

My father has been a resident of Mendip Lodge for over 18 months. He suffers from Alzheimer's and is 95 years of age. The care and support he receives at Mendip Lodge is outstanding. I live a distance away, and it is comforting to know how well he is cared for by all the staff at Mendip Lodge. The food is fresh and cooked daily to an excellent standard. The staff are all so very supportive of Dad, they have worked at the home for many years, which gives him familiarity. His life is comfortable and safe and he is happy. Well done to all the staff at Mendip Lodge.

Thank you so much for the positive feedback. As you rightly said, the continuity of care is very important for people with dementia. Mendip Lodge has not used agency staff for the past 10 years. Our staff know each and every resident in and out, which makes it possible to offer holistic care. Your kind words are always a morale booster for our staff.

My mum is very happy and settled here. She is well cared for and the staff know her and her needs well. The staff are very friendly and caring, to all the family as well as my mum. The food is freshly home cooked, a variety of activities are provided and in addition to plenty of inside space for the residents, there is a lovely garden.

Generally, it is a very welcoming atmosphere, whenever I visit my mother.

The garden party was well organised, but I'm not sure if it achieved the objective of promoting the Pods. I'm not sure if they achieved their design as they appear very small for the price.

Reply from Jacob Puthet, Registered Manager at Mendip Lodge

Thank you for your positive response for the care home. The Pods (they are separate to the care home) are designed for people who can enjoy the independence in their own space but will have assistance with food, cleaning and laundry. There are single and double Pods to meet to the needs of the residents. Thank you again for your lovely feedback.

I had to put my mother into a facility for respite care and Mendip Lodge was suggested. We are so lucky as this place is fantastic. The staff are great and are very caring. The food is great and Mum is looked after amazingly. This is a smaller facility than other care homes which makes it a nicer choice. I would recommend Mendip Lodge to anybody thinking of putting their parents into care.

My mother came to Mendip Lodge for an emergency week of respite care, found for us by North Somerset Social Services, following a fall (a fracture) while we sorted some homecare out. We are all so grateful for the wonderful care and support shown to Mum and, in fact, to all of us (my dad and myself were really reassured and supported too). We cannot speak highly enough of the fantastic staff. One staff member in particular was so helpful and gave us lots of advice and all the staff worked really hard to make my mum comfortable and welcome for her short stay. You were very accommodating and lovely with her many visitors too! You all really helped us in what was a very stressful time. It’s good to know we can return for respite if needed in future!

My father came to Mendip Lodge earlier in the summer as things were getting difficult at home with my mother trying to support him with his dementia and other health issues. Obviously, it was a big step for both my parents, but I chose this particular care home as, after visiting a number of others, it was by far the best for cleanliness and the general feeling of well-being with staff interacting in a warm relaxed and friendly manner with residents in a large living area that reminded me of a country hotel in Scotland.

I now visit my father several times a week and I am very happy with the choice I made, as although he has a number of conditions making his care challenging, the staff approach this in a professional yet compassionate manner, and I can be sure that he is getting his medication and that I will be informed of any problems. Most importantly, my father is content, too.

Dad has been at Mendip Lodge for almost two years and has always been well cared for by the team, which was especially important to us as a family during the difficult Covid lockdowns when we were unable to see him regularly. He is a proud man and can be challenging at times, as he is well aware of all that is happening to him and his physical deterioration, but the team work very hard to attend to all his needs and approach him with genuine care and compassion.
The coordination with local health services is excellent and I feel a genuine three-way management of his needs led by Mendip Lodge, working closely with the GP and family input.

The team at Mendip Lodge is well established and experienced, and that makes a big difference in the day-to-day continuity of his care and understanding Dad’s particular needs.

Thanks for the lovely comments. When I went to assess Mum in the previous care home they informed that she was not walking, but she started to walk with staff support, from day two with us and now she does not need any assistance at all. She has gained more confidence now to mobilise and enjoys the company of her friends. What a turnaround! Thanks for being such a supportive family.
