I found Mendip Lodge was a small friendly care home which is well managed by management and staff. My aunt was in Mendip Lodge for nearly 6 years and in that time her dementia got progressively worse and she could be very difficult at times. The carers would never know what to expect. However, all the staff from the manager down to the cleaners, managed to cope with my aunt in a caring and considerate way at all times. Whenever I visited or phoned, staff were always ready to keep me up to date on how my aunt was. I was really impressed with how they coped with Covid and kept everyone well and safe. I found the carers especially caring in my aunt's last few weeks of life. Many thanks to everyone.

Thank you very much for your review. We did our best to keep your aunt happy, independent and enabled her to spend time in a meaningful way. She was able to live a life, the way she wanted it to be, with full control. I can't thank you enough for your role in looking after your aunt. You have been...

After a fall and stay in hospital and increasingly being unable to cope at home, as a family we decided with my nan that she needed more care. As soon as I saw photos of Mendip Lodge I thought it looked perfect.
Being unable to visit due to Covid, the manager immediately sent me a video of the home and was really helpful. The move couldn't have been smoother and my nan, always having been reluctant to enter residential care, loved it immediately.
All of the staff including the manager were welcoming and friendly and are always happy to answer any questions. The home itself is homely and has a great feel and happy atmosphere. There are activities for those who want to be involved, including singsongs, pumpkin carving and the guinea pigs which my nan has held. The care is person-centred and my nan feels as part of their family.
My nan is the happiest she has been in years and said herself she couldn't have chosen anywhere better.

I cannot thank the manager and his staff enough.

It is heartwarming to see such a lovely positive feedback from yourselves. Covid did not stop us from showing Mendip Lodge to you and your nan through photos and videos. We always believe that care home is a permanent home for residents and that they should feel 100% confident about moving in....

Staff are welcoming, come to say hello to you when you visit. At the end of life for my Nan, they were very considerate and kept me informed. Any questions I had they were at ease to answer. Also took extra care for my nan's partner in making sure he was managing with his loss, giving support along the way.

Thanks for your positive response. We aim to make the life of all residents meaningful. Though your Nan could not participate in many activities, we managed to ensure that she also was able to be part of our daily activities including reminiscence conversations, singing, hand massage, aromatherapy...

Mendip Lodge is a home in the very best sense of the word. There is a feeling of family and residents are treated with such kindness and care. Comfortable rooms, a beautiful garden and home-cooked food. My dad has lived at Mendip Lodge since May and the staff have gone to great lengths to help him settle in, they are a fantastic bunch!

Mum moved into a care home in Bristol after a nasty fall at home, and then a subsequent fall in hospital. She never really settled, and as a visitor, it wasn't the best experience.
She moved to Mendip Lodge in the summer of 2019, and the change in her is remarkable. She is far more settled and less anxious. The staff are brilliant, really friendly and welcoming. The home itself is really comfortable with a lovely garden area outside, and Mum's room is very light and spacious which was a massive plus after the home in Bristol which felt quite dark and oppressive. The organised events are really good, and it's great to see Mum singing along to old songs and getting involved with the entertainment.

Everyone in the family has expressed the same feelings towards the carers at Mendip Lodge. Thanks for looking after Mum, and keeping her safe through this COVID-19 madness.

My father was a resident of Mendip Lodge for 3 years before he passed away. I cannot thank the staff enough for the care and compassion they showed him. He was always treated as an individual and for that I am very grateful. The staff are very caring and the food is amazing - all home made and delicious. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Mendip Lodge as a place for your loved one to be looked after. As it is a comparatively small home it feels like being part of a big family.

My father was at Mendip Lodge for six weeks of respite care after having several falls. He had never been in full-time care before and at the age of 90 was quite anxious. The room provided was perfect for his needs. The staff were great with him and my family from the moment we arrived and it was stress-free knowing we were leaving him in safe hands. He enjoyed the food and often said there were too many meals! All the staff get involved with the care of the residents and are always pleased to talk to the family when visiting. They have to care for a variety of residents with different needs and do so with patience and dignity. I know my father felt well cared for and safe while at Mendip Lodge.

In February my mother moved into a residential care home following a number of falls at home. That home was OK but I could not quite put my finger on what was lacking. However, following a more serious fall at that residential home, Mum ended up in hospital. On discharge from hospital, we as a family decided to look for and to move Mum to a new home. At Mendip Lodge, Mum settled in almost immediately and it simply became her new home. Mum is well fed, cared for and warm and happy.

Our cousin, who was resident at Mendip Lodge until she sadly died at the end of June, was a very strong-willed and sometimes difficult lady to please but I have to say that the care she received at Mendip Lodge could not have been better. The staff were very patient, attentive and caring and spent a lot of time talking to her and sharing her memories. She had never married and had no very close family members so really appreciated the one to one relationships she had with many of the staff.
Her room was large, light, airy and kept very clean but her personal belongings and space were respected at all times, she was encouraged from the start to make her room feel like her own home.
There were many activities available for her to participate in at her discretion, and she could meet other residents and chat whenever she wished, or just stay quietly in her room.

She told us that the food was excellent and that there was plenty of choice.

My father has been at Mendip Lodge now for almost 3 years. I am extremely happy with all aspects of his care. We always can be assured of a warm welcome and a lovely smile by the staff who make you feel at home. The staff are helpful, caring and it is evident that they have the training and knowledge to deal with each situation as it arises. My father has several medical and mental health issues and I am confident that the staff are well equipped to manage his needs. The home itself has a lovely, homely and relaxed atmosphere, the meals are of a high standard and residents are always given choices. My dad loved the monthly trips, visiting areas of interest in and around Bristol and North Somerset. The manager is always happy to answer any queries and displays genuine care for the residents. I would have no hesitation in recommending this care home to anyone looking for a residential home for their loved one.

Our mother had been a resident at Mendip Lodge until 15th April when she sadly died. During her time at Mendip Lodge, she had been treated with dignity and kindness even though my sister and I were aware that she wasn't always easy. During her last week, the staff were outstanding. We were made welcome day and night and all the staff were totally understanding of our plight at this time. Nothing was too much. They were all helpful and totally supportive and provided the kindest and truly sensitive care in our mother's final days. This is a Home where the staff do care and I would strongly recommend it should you be looking to place a relative.

Thank you very much for your kind words Paul. It was a privilege to have your mom herewith us and we tried to ensure that she enjoyed an independent, dignified, respectful, person-centred, caring, loving and a meaningful life. As a family, you all were so supportive and caring for your mom. I think as a team, you and us, have made her feel at home at Mendip Lodge. We all miss her witty one-liners.

My Mum moved to Mendip Lodge at the end of September last year and the staff there have all gone out of their way to ensure that Mum is settled, relaxed, happy and comfortable in her new home - a feat far more difficult than it might sound given the nature of Mum's illness.
The staff are all happy and relaxed - as well as extremely competent and professional - creating a lovely atmosphere for the residents. And the home-cooked food is excellent too, including plenty of imaginative additional treats, such as home-made cakes and plenty of ice-creams!
I often feel that Mendip Lodge is more akin to a boutique hotel, rather than a care home, so pleasant and comfortable are the furniture and furnishings, managing deftly to avoid any feeling of being 'institutionalised'.
My brother lives a few minutes' walk from Mendip Lodge and visits Mum several times a week. I live some distance away, but visit Mum regularly and am always made to feel very welcome.

Would highly recommend.

Both my parents are residents at Mendip Lodge and have been for nearly four years. My wife and I visit every week and try to attend Mendip Lodge events as often as possible and so I think we have got to know the staff well. We have always been impressed by the attitude and expertise of the carers. They are friendly and caring while remaining professional. My parents have very different needs and the Home has always responded with complete appropriateness, thoughtfulness and professionalism.

My 91-year-old mother has been residing at Mendip Lodge for the past 16 months where she has been given the most loving care and attention despite her frequent extra needs. Mendip Lodge is a lovely environment but the carers make it even more special. Sadly Mum has needed to move to a nursing home now as her mobility and health have deteriorated to a level where specialised lifting is needed, though all attempts were made to prevent this move being the outcome, and for this, I am truly grateful to them for going the extra mile. I would highly recommend Mendip Lodge to anyone searching for a safe and loving haven for their loved one, my very heartfelt thanks to all the wonderful staff, they have been like a family to me and a great support.
