Mum seems quite happy at the home but spends a lot of time alone in her room which must be very boring.
We had mums 100th birthday celebrations recently and the home were very accommodating and made sure a fuss was made of her.
Reply from Kay Smith, General Manager at Adelaide LodgeThank you so much for sharing your feedback. We're delighted to hear that your mum is happy that means a lot to us. As for her spending time in her room, this is often down to personal choice or individual needs, but please rest assured that our activities team regularly provides one-to-one engagement to keep residents connected and stimulated, as their well-being is always our priority. We're also delighted that you enjoyed the celebrations for her 100th birthday, what an incredible milestone! she truly deserved every bit of the fuss, and we were honoured to make it special for her.

The staff are caring and helpful. My aunt, who is 103, has been at the home for four years and is generally content. The manager is very thoughtful and efficiently deals with any concerns. The standard of food is the only real area of concern, and it is generally poor. Overall, the home is good with
staff trying their hardest with financial constraints.
Reply from Kay Smith, General Manager at Adelaide LodgeThank you for your feedback. We're pleased you find our staff caring and the manager thoughtful and efficient in addressing concerns. We regret that the food quality does not meet your expectations. Our menus are designed to meet the resident's nutritional needs, using locally sourced, high quality ingredients and are regularly reviewed with residents to reflect their preferences. Regarding financial constraints, please be assured that we prioritise the health and well-being of our residents above all else. We remain committed to providing the highest standard of care and comfort and therefore do not implement any constraints financially on the home.

After approx 18 months at Adelaide I feel grandad and visitors have generally had a good experience.
The areas I have perhaps felt could be improved
1) Sometimes it has seemed/felt like different staff give different info.
2) Activities seem 'female' orientated, but grandad would be a reluctant
participant.
3) Sometimes seemed slightly neglected when in his room.
4) We have some question about 'professionalism' of night staff.
Reply from Kay Smith, General Manager at Adelaide LodgeThank you for your feedback. We are pleased to hear that your Grandad and his visitors have had a positive experience at Adelaide. We appreciate your comments regarding potential improvements and value the time you have taken to share them with us. Our commitment is to deliver exceptional care and provide a diverse range of activities, please be assured that we will carefully review your concerns and implement enhancements if necessary.

Mum receives excellent care and attention. I have no concerns for her wellbeing. However, she does complain about the food quality/cooking. She also complains about the night staff not attending quickly enough and not returning when they say they are going to. (I am unable to verify that she is telling
the truth).
Reply from Kay Smith, General Manager at Adelaide LodgeThank you for your feedback. We're pleased to hear that you feel your Mum receives excellent care and that you have no concerns about her wellbeing. Regarding the food, we strive to provide high quality meals with plenty of variety, however, we will arrange for someone to speak with her to make sure her preferences are met. Our call bell system is closely monitored and any delays in responses are investigated immediately but we will review your concern to ensure this standard continues to be met.

Mum has been so well looked after since moving into Adelaide Lodge. We were worried about moving her into a care home, but she has been made to feel so very welcome. We have come to realise that mum receives much better care and attention than we could ever provide in our own home. The staff are always
very attentive to all the residents' needs. Food is amazing. Activities always look fun and engaging, and scrap books are a lovely record for mum and the family to share.
Reply from Kay Smith, General Manager at Adelaide LodgeThank you for your kind feedback. We're pleased to hear that your Mum has settled in well and that you feel confident in your decision. It's reassuring to know she was warmly welcomed and that our team's attentive care has met your expectations. We're also glad that you are happy with the quality and variety of our meals, as we strive to provide nutritious options. Additionally, we aim to offer a diverse range of activities to keep the residents engaged and enjoyable for all.

It has been a very good decision, after talking casually to a friend who told me he had just taken his mother in here. As a doctor and a school friend of my son, I thought it may be worth considering. I found the staff warm and helpful, and after a while I was feeling so much better, and my family are
happy for me to stay. The only downside, so much dementia, but grateful I'm OK so far.

We moved my father to Adelaide Lodge as it was near us. He had been in another care home 2 hours away. My sister and myself were concerned that he did not have much longer to live and I wanted to be more available. He was losing a lot of weight and never smiled. He has been in Adelaide for 4 months
now and all the staff have been wonderful with him. Our father is enjoying the home cooked food- the staff help him eat and he is much better. He smiles and laughs now! In addition the support to me and family is exceptional esp when he got ill. So glad we moved him!

My mum has been in the care of Adelaide Lodge for the past eighteen months . She has settled well . Her bedroom is equipped for her needs, and is also always very clean and tidy . There is regular entertainment which includes singers that mum enjoys to sing along with . The carers are warm and friendly
and have got to know mums likes and dislikes . I am kept informed on mums health and any issues there might be . Family can visit throughout the day .

My mother moved to Adelaide Lodge at the end of 2022 and has received very welcome and supportive care and attention. The home is very clean, and my mother's room is comfortable and practical. The staff and the manager have always been helpful and respectful. The activities arranged on behalf of the
residents are also very much appreciated, and my mother particularly enjoys the visits by the therapy dogs.

The staff are genuinely caring towards Dad and show affection to him which is the most important for us as his daughters. The manager is excellent, communicates any concern to us in a timely manner and issues (like his hearing aid battery not being charged) are resolved quickly. There are plenty of
activities to keep him stimulated. We particularly like the record system which we can access to see how he is doing. He enjoys walking around the garden and petting the house dog.

My father came to Adelaide Lodge in December 2019 as he has vascular dementia. He was very anxious before coming to Adelaide Lodge but is now content and serene. The care at Adelaide Lodge is the best, all staff I have encountered have been caring, friendly and so helpful. I do not worry about my father
at all as he is so well looked after, has a lovely room and enjoys the activities in the lovely lounge area.
My mother-in-law was also in Adelaide Lodge until her recent death. She went to the home in October 2019 in very poor health and we were told by her doctor she would not live much longer. Due to the excellent and loving care she received she survived until April this year, enjoyed her 100th birthday, regained her mobility and had a lovely last few years.
I cannot recommend this home highly enough and am so glad we found it when we needed it.

On visiting home, staff very polite and informative. Everywhere light, bright and spacious to make room for walking frames and wheelchairs. Small single bedroom spotlessly clean with towels and flannel. Nice upright supportive armchair beside the bed. Allowed to bring ornaments, pictures and clock to
make it more homely. I was most impressed and 10 weeks later cannot fault them. Have calls from office staff to check everything is ok.

My Dad has recently moved into this Care Home. It's really homely and his room is very comfortable and clean. The care he is receiving is exceptional. He is well looked after and all the staff are very attentive, very caring and gentle. Nothing is too much trouble.
The activities are fun and Dad has
started to join in. Meals are good and snacks are given in between meals including fruit. There are jugs of water and squash in the bedrooms and areas where the residents sit. They are encouraged to drink and helped to drink if needed. I am very happy knowing Dad is in a very safe and caring place.

Current Review Score: 9.4 (9.353)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.4 (9.353) out of 10 for Adelaide Lodge is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.5 out of 5 from 14 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.9 out of 5 from 14 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.503 for Adelaide Lodge is calculated as follows: ( (91 Excellents x 5) + (66 Goods x 4) + (8 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 165 Ratings = 4.503
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.85 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Adelaide Lodge is based on 14 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 3.85
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 48 registered maximum number of service users is 9.6, which has been reached with 14 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
