I am more than happy with the care my uncle received at Willow House, good communication and updates on my uncle nothing was ever too much and having dementia the staff were well trained to deal with his illness and provide a safe caring environment, there were lots of activities provided and family
invited to fun barbecues, days out in the mini bus and lovely photos taken of their days out to provide memories to loved ones, I would recommend this care home to anyone and the beautiful gardens gave a peaceful place to sit in summer months and watch the birds feeding from the lounge area, I would like to thank all the staff members who looked after my uncle
Reply from Janice Federer, Registered Manager at Willow HouseThank you so much for your kind and thoughtful words about the staff and the home, appreciation for the staff always motivates them to continue their hard work and true compassion. Your uncle (and his cheeky smile) will be sadly missed by all at Willow House. He was always a pleasure to care for. We will miss seeing you as well. You are always welcome to pop in for a cup of tea and to say hello to the staff

We have known Joyce for more than 40 years. We feel our annual visits (an 800 mile round trip) to see her are valuable.

We felt a difference in the atmosphere of care on this visit.
Although she was waiting for us in the lounge, Joyce was not appropriately dressed for going out on a chilly morning-

she needed more layers, gloves, a scarf, for example. We had to prompt office staff for her cash.
We noticed a lack of alterness to her visitors' arrival on the following day and when we went to her room she was not dressed.
We felt Joyce would have benefitted from a more engaged handover when we arrived back from our outings. There was a lack of attentiveness to find out what she'd been doing to help her relive her enjoyable outings later.

During our time with Joyce we were very aware that she is, and has, been firghtened by another resident which made her quite agitated.

Reply from Janice Federer, Registered Manager at Willow HouseThank you for taking the time to share your feedback following your recent visit with Joyce. We recognise how important your visits are to both Joyce and yourselves.

I am sorry to hear that aspects of your experience did not meet the standard of care and attentiveness that I expect. I will discuss your concerns with the staff and we will review your comments to ensure a more attentive and person-centred approach moving forward.

I was also particularly concerned to read your comments regarding Joyce feeling frightened by another resident and the distress this has caused her. Please be assured this matter will be reviewed promptly to ensure Joyce feels safe, supported, and reassured within the home environment.
We value feedback such as yours as it helps us identify areas where we can improve.

Please do not hesitate to contact me directly if you would like to discuss any of your concerns.

When visiting with my Mum to choose a residential home for my father due to his Alzheimer's we felt Willow House was the first home we felt confident he would be safe and happy. The staff have been wonderful in their consistent kindness, patience and thoughtfulness in what is a difficult and generally
undervalued role.
He has always been treated with respect and as an individual. The staff have spent time getting to know the person beneath the dementia, and this effort has meant he never asked to leave, or question why he was there. My sisters and I have always been supported and helped if we had questions about his care. They have been proactive in arranging GP reviews which have been prompt ( The attached GP surgery is excellent).
Janice and James are capable and very effective in their management - always approachable and fully support their team of excellent carers - who are kind and compassionate to their cores.

Willow House is an extremely kind, clean, efficient care home. My mum was there for nearly 3 years and died there. I never once visited or had concerns on her care. The compassion they show residence and family is on another level.

My mother received the best care from all the staff at Willow House during her short residency. I cannot praise them all enough and will always be so grateful for the support my mother and I received from everyone at Willow House. There is a wonderful supportive feeling of empathy and a very homely,
caring feeling as soon as you walk through the door.

Thanks to all the wonderful staff, my mother had a very calm, comfortable and peaceful end of life. She was not amongst strangers and in her short time there she was able to enjoy some wonderful trips out, the delicious dinners and benefit from the welcoming, happy and relaxed atmosphere in Willow House before she passed away.

The whole of the above is thanks to the leadership, dedication and humour of Janice and James.

I cannot speak highly enough about the care given to my mother during her stay, particularly when her health deteriorated and she required extensive care. Nothing was too much trouble and every effort was made to keep her as happy and comfortable as possible. The management and staff were extremely
caring and thoroughly professional throughout her stay and I am grateful that I managed to find her this home from home.
Reply from Janice Federer, Registered Manager at Willow HouseThank you so much for your lovely review of our Home. Your Mum was such a kind and respectful lady with a lovely sense of humour. We have nothing but positive things to say about Willow House. My mum moved in February, following a fall and feeling increasingly unsafe in her own home. Despite her being more than a touch uncertain when she arrived, the staff were so welcoming and did their best for her - she was not always easily
pleased when it came to food, but the cook did her best to cater to Mum's wishes. All of the staff were very kind to Mum, from the cleaning and washing team, to the daily carers and especially James the Deputy Manager, who Mum had a soft spot for. Sadly, Mum's health took a turn for the worse, and she ended up in hospital for a while, but she was determined to get back to Willow. Her final few weeks were where I really understood and felt the kindness and patience of the whole team, their job is not an easy or glamorous one, but they all take pride in their work and do their absolute best for their residents. I wish that Mum had been able to stay longer, and enjoy the family atmosphere.
Reply from Janice Federer, Registered Manager at Willow HouseThank you so much for your review and your kind words. We are all so glad that your Mum was able to spend her final days with us. She was always kind to the staff, which they appreciated. Your Mum was a special part of our family and was loved by all.

My husband has been in Willow House since March 2025. I cannot fault the care my husband has received. The staff go above and beyond. They treat my husband with care and dignity. He is always clean and dressed well. The meals are very good. I can even stay and have a meal with my husband.
The manager
is very approachable. I had a concern regarding my husband's health, right away they arranged for a doctor to come and take bloods. I cannot fault this home it is always very clean with no nasty smells.

I feel very lucky that our father is at Willow House. He has Alzheimer's and arrived at the Home in December 2024. The staff are friendly, cheerful, always available if we have a question and always impress me by how much they seem to understand my father and how well they manage his dementia & confusion
- with patience & kindness.
We can visit whenever we wish and are made to feel welcome.
My father is able to wander freely around the home & garden and is taken on trips out with the other residents.
The whole atmosphere is of a home environment.
A big thank you to all the staff who do a wonderful job.

My mother has been at Willow House for almost a year. Although she has found it hard to accept her frailty, she is being cared for to an exceptional standard. All carers are kind and friendly. I can visit whenever I want, and am made to feel welcome. The management are approachable, and truly care
about their residents. The food is to a very high standard and cater for individuals if needed. Doctors and nurses visit weekly, there are hairdressers, podiatrists, dentists and opticians who visit regularly. I am impressed with the level of on going training which is reassuring. Everyone, from the cleaners, gardener, catering staff, carers, management and other visitors are obviously happy in their work and this shines through. Why can't all care homes be like this!

My mother lived in Willow House for 5 and1/2 years before she died in March. Throughout that time the staff have been immensely kind and caring and they have looked after Mum well as she has become increasingly frail. The home is in a wonderful garden, which she loved, and there are many summer activities
in the garden as well as indoor entertainment throughout the year. The food is excellent and home cooked and the staff make a great effort for occasions such as Christmas, Mother's Day etc and for everyone's birthday.
I cannot thank them enough for all their support and understanding as Mum became older and more frail. They have been very supportive to me and I have always felt able to approach the managers with any concerns, which are always listened to. I don't know how the staff do such a difficult job with such patience and understanding. My sincere thanks to them all.

Current Review Score: 9.7 (9.743)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.7 (9.743) out of 10 for Willow House is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 19 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 18 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.793 for Willow House is calculated as follows: ( (189 Excellents x 5) + (20 Goods x 4) + (13 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 222 Ratings = 4.793
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.95 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Willow House is based on 18 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 3.95
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 30 registered maximum number of service users is 6, which has been reached with 18 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
