Overall Experience
My mother was a resident of Manor Lodge Care Home in Exmouth for over two and a half years.
She needed a lot of care as her mobility was extremely challenged by health issues. All the staff are very competent and caring and do their utmost to keep all the residents comfortable and happy.
It was always a pleasure to visit Mum, enjoy her company and the beautiful view of the garden from her bedroom window.

I was always confident that Mum was in good hands and that her needs were being well met by friendly staff giving excellent service with a smile.

My Mum has been a resident at Manor Lodge for a few years, in this time there have been several bad managers! But Manor Lodge has greatly improved under the management of Christina and Claire, the home now seems to be well run, with the focus on the residents, Mum is supported well by caring friendly staff, the home it's spotless clean, and Mum says the food is excellent.
There is very limited entertainment for the residents, but I believe this is due to lack of funding.

My only negative comment would be that communication from staff could be improved, i have always asked to be informed regarding any falls/medical issues with my mum, but this does not always happen.

Reply from Christina Williams, Registered Manager at Manor Lodge Care Home

We are pleased to hear you feel positive impact from the managers. Thank you for your feedback about communication we can address this immediately. From the new year, activities have been more focused.

My mum has been at Manor lodge for nearly 3 years. I wont lie there have been some times when we considered moving. however, since the new manager and deputy have taken over, everything is good and staff seem less stressed. Mum is happy with the food, which is important. As a relative, I feel listened to. No care home is going to be perfect all the time, but there has been a huge improvement and thank you to the staff for looking after mum, from housekeeping, carers, managers, chefs and activities. A great team.

Thank you for your honesty. You're absolutely right - e won't get everything perfect every time, and hearing about issues as they arise helps us make improvements quickly. It's great to know you're pleased with how the new managers are working and that you're already seeing a positive change.

Everything as expected and needed for my relative only concern is that there could be more activities but I understand that staffing concerns could be the reason.

Reply from Christina Williams, Registered Manager at Manor Lodge Care Home

Overall Experience
My mother has been at Manor Lodge for several years. Since the care home has come under new ownership I have noticed an improvement in the level of care, including much better staff interaction. The main community room used to be a very depressing experience and Mum preferred to stay in her room - I didn't blame her. Now, however, it is a very lively place. Esenome Okodugha has contributed greatly to this - she is a great asset to the staff.

The fees have increased alarmingly over the last couple of years - well ahead of inflation and "increases in the minimum wage" - a statement that speaks for itself. There has also been a high turnover of managers. But Mum is happy there, which was not always the case, and I am happy with the level of care she receives.

My mother went into the home shortly before Christmas 2024. It took her time to settle in, but now she seems very settled and peaceful. My sister and I so appreciate the gentleness and kindness of the staff. It is a real help to us and gives us peace of mind knowing that she is being well cared for. Thank you!

Please refer to my past emails stating that although Manor Lodge is clean and most staff are kind and caring the lack of activities and mental stimulation is non existent to the point where my mum has deteriorated and has withdrawn from participating.

I hope things improve under new management and residents need to be taken out on a regular basis please.

Reply from Christina Williams, Registered Manager at Manor Lodge Care Home

Please rest assured that I've taken careful note of your comments. My door is always open, and if you ever have any concerns, please don't hesitate to bring them to me. Kind regards, Christina.

My 2 weeks, respite care was very enjoyable being looked after well - didn't like a nurse coming in suddenly at 4 am.
A good Christmas lunch, but salmon was as hard as rocks! My room was great, well furnished but bed was against wall - bad.

Staff coped well with dementia care, but could have been more attentive to TV needs. General atmosphere was pleasant - well done!

Manor Lodge is in a perfect setting in a leafy part of Exmouth, and with a small but pleasant garden. Rooms are well appointed and some, like Mum's, open onto the garden. Care staff are kind, helpful and attentive to the residents and their visitors. We enjoy our visits and often bring our little dog who is a popular guest with the residents. The reason for the missing 5th star is that there is a notable lack of presence by the Aiveda management, despite promises. With costs escalating since Mum first arrived, there is a risk of a perception of 'business' over 'care' from the company. Overall, I would recommend Manor Lodge to anyone looking for residential family care in Exmouth.

My mother has found her time at Manor Lodge very comfortable and friendly. Her room is attractive and the staff are attentive and willing to chat. She enjoys her meals and the catering staff know her favourite foods.
The staff are responsive to the family when we have questions.

The gardens are attractive and are lovely to sit in the summer.

This has to be the worst care home I have ever had the misfortune to visit. Most of the staff I had contact with spoke very little English.
Resident was there for 1 week only. The worst week of his life. He was treated like a 3rd class citizen. Manhandled by staff, staff used language he found disturbing and left him feeling frightened, vulnerable and scared to go to sleep.

Things taken from his room without consent. Medication not given properly. I would not put my worst enemy in this facility.

My husband moved into Manor Lodge Care Home 2023. he is very happy in his new home and was welcomed along with his rabbits, by very caring friendly staff and manager. They have continued to promote his independence in looking after her rabbits and maintaining the beautiful gardens. He loved to be outside as much as he can be, de-heading flowers, weeding etc. I have a peaceful mind knowing the staff are keeping a watchful eye on him and are at hand if needed. They will answer any concerns or questions if I have asked, always polite, happy and friendly. Well done all and thank you very much Manor Lodge.

We are very grateful to Manor Lodge for caring for my mother-in-law so well. She was treated with respect, care and compassion. As relatives, we were also shown kindness and given time when needed. My mother-in-law would often say that we couldn't have found her a better home. Thank you to all the staff at Manor Lodge and the staff at Head Office we interacted with. The entire team are key to making Manor Lodge an excellent care home.
