My mother has been at Manor Lodge for several years. Since the care home has come under new ownership I have noticed an improvement in the level of care, including much better staff interaction. The main community room used to be a very depressing experience and Mum preferred to stay in her room -
I didn't blame her. Now, however, it is a very lively place. Esenome Okodugha has contributed greatly to this - she is a great asset to the staff.
The fees have increased alarmingly over the last couple of years - well ahead of inflation and "increases in the minimum wage" - a statement that speaks for itself. There has also been a high turnover of managers. But Mum is happy there, which was not always the case, and I am happy with the level of care she receives.

Thank you for sharing this feedback Gary. I am pleased to hear that the improvements have been positive. Please keep us informed on the things going well and the things you feel need attention so we can continue to maintain a happy place for your mother. Many thanks

Mum became a resident 2.5 years ago. In that time we have seen a lot of changes and managers. Not all for the good. However over the last few months things have improved. Food is important to mum, she now enjoys what is being offered. Activities are a personal choice, but having a weekly planner would
greatly help her make choices. She comments on how lovely and caring the staff are, all departments but is saddened that a lot of agency staff are used, not ideal for continuity. She does acknowledge that some of the regulars are good and know what needs to be done. For your staff to have to keep'training' agency staff , who may never come again, is hard and time consuming. There was a time that we were looking at moving mum, but she is now happy here and gets on well with the staff.

My Mum has lived at Manor Lodge for over two years now and is settled and happy there. She is fortunate to have a room overlooking the garden, so that she can see flowers and birds as well as other residents taking a stroll along the deck. I am not too sure of what activities are currently available
as Mum has extreme mobility issues and spends most of her time in her own room. The staff are always friendly and helpful with delightful smiles for everyone.

Mum has taken to vegetarianism late in life and since she is also a fussy eater (she isn't keen on beans) it is tough to provide her with an enticing, varied diet. The staff do make an effort, but there is often not a vegetarian option on the menu for her to choose (or reject!). The staff have had rather a long period of uncertainty regarding in - Home management, they have all worked harder to cope with rather fluid leadership. Now there are new appointees in place all should be well - personally I am already favourably impressed!

Reply from Christina Williams, Registered Manager at Manor Lodge Care Home

Thank you for your feedback. I'm pleased to hear that you feel things are moving in a positive direction. I can also confirm that vegetarian diet options are available. Additionally, I am currently working with the chef to review the menus, the overall dining experience in the home, and explore ways we can enhance both the presentation and the variety of choices offered. We are also looking at how to make these choices more visible and accessible to residents.

My mother went into the home shortly before Christmas 2024. It took her time to settle in, but now she seems very settled and peaceful. My sister and I so appreciate the gentleness and kindness of the staff. It is a real help to us and gives us peace of mind knowing that she is being well cared for.
Thank you!

Couldn't be happier for my husband to be at Manor Lodge. He is well looked after, loves the food and staff. Hopefully, the new manager can sort out staff retention. My husband is taken out occasionally to the local garden centre for coffee and cake, which he loves. Overall, a lovely place to be.

Please refer to my past emails stating that although Manor Lodge is clean and most staff are kind and caring the lack of activities and mental stimulation is non existent to the point where my mum has deteriorated and has withdrawn from participating.
I hope things improve under new management and
residents need to be taken out on a regular basis please.

My 2 weeks, respite care was very enjoyable being looked after well - didn't like a nurse coming in suddenly at 4 am.
A good Christmas lunch, but salmon was as hard as rocks! My room was great, well furnished but bed was against wall - bad.
Staff coped well with dementia care, but could have been
more attentive to TV needs. General atmosphere was pleasant - well done!

Whilst in the care home, my relative was treated with the utmost dignity and care. When she passed away, it appeared that the management did not care about her relatives or her personal possessions. When I collected her possessions, several items were missing and I had to ask for some which had been
put in store and not with her possessions. There was no contact or appearances at my relative's funeral or remembrance service at the church. I am really disappointed with the management once my relative had passed away as they had no thought of feelings for the relatives. I have heard nothing from the home and it is twelve months since.
The staff were most thoughtful with our loss but not the management.

The most amazing manager, outstanding. She is so caring, understanding, helpful and efficient. She went out of her way to find the best and most convenient room for Mum. She is the most lovely and personable hands-on manager. Even when plans changed and Mum needed to stay longer she sorted everything
out. The staff are all lovely and attentive. They really care and know all the patient's needs. After a visit to the care home before Mum stayed the manager even helped us get Mum back home and in the house by pushing her up the ramp. This just shows how far she goes to support and help. The care home is definitely a 5-star and beyond experience. Thank you for everything to the manager and all the adorable caring staff!

Manor Lodge is in a perfect setting in a leafy part of Exmouth, and with a small but pleasant garden. Rooms are well appointed and some, like Mum's, open onto the garden. Care staff are kind, helpful and attentive to the residents and their visitors. We enjoy our visits and often bring our little dog
who is a popular guest with the residents. The reason for the missing 5th star is that there is a notable lack of presence by the Aiveda management, despite promises. With costs escalating since Mum first arrived, there is a risk of a perception of 'business' over 'care' from the company. Overall, I would recommend Manor Lodge to anyone looking for residential family care in Exmouth.

Thank you for taking the time to review our care home. Your feedback is very valuable to us. I am pleased to hear that the carers are supporting your mother to the best they can. I am however sorry to hear your dissatisfaction over the presence of our manager. I am surprised to hear this as the manager is usually at the care home Monday to Friday. I have discussed this with her and she has advised that her office door is always open and occasionally may have been closed due to attendance at meetings. Having said this, should you wish to discuss this in detail, we would be more than happy to meet you.

My mum settled into Arthurs Court ready for Christmas 2020, continuing to enjoy the family of staff and residents through to this Christmas 2023 when she peacefully slipped away from this life. As one of four siblings we all agreed her new home offering social life and developing new friendships enabled
her to be best cared for as dementia developed. Living close by meant we could see her and speak with staff frequently, reassured by the continuity and social events arranged. We really appreciated the regular calls to discuss personal aspects of care and explanations of medical support as her needs progressed through 2023. Overall the service and personal interest taken by staff in their residents have impressed, confident that her room will offer a great space for the next resident to enjoy their later years.

My stepmother was a resident at Arthurs Court Care Home from January 2023 to September, when she passed away. She was suffering from vascular dementia and required one-to-one care for 12 hours every day. I was deeply impressed by the high standard of care and training of the staff looking after all
the individual residents. My stepmother was a difficult patient due to her dementia, the care was brilliant. I really can't thank the staff enough. Thank you so much.
