Westlands is in the heart of Teignmouth and provides high quality residential and respite care in a beautiful homely environment with stunning views over the River Teign and Shaldon.

The home has undergone a major refurbishment in 2020 and provides a very high standard of accommodation throughout 24 bedrooms, all with ensuite facilities, beautifully decorated lounge, sun room and dining room. The terrace and garden benefit from the fabulous views.

The home has three cooks who produce excellent home cooked food. Residents enjoy a full program of activities which include weekly trips out to beauty spots and cafes, music, singing, arts & crafts, quizzes, crosswords, group discussions, seated exercises and film afternoons. My auntie needed far more care than she was getting elsewhere. I was determined to move her once lockdown was over. I asked an online friend and Westlands was her top choice. I live over 100 miles away, so needed to find out from locals.
When I spoke to the care manager she was friendly, helpful, informative
and supportive. She even emailed me photos of rooms so that I could make an informed choice. She visited my aunt and phoned me to say she’d be delighted to have her as a resident.
My Aunt moved in during June 2021 and soon settled in. She is extremely happy there, and even though her Dementia has progressed, it is a joy to visit and see how loved and cared for she is. She enjoys the trips out and a visit to Dartmoor to see the ponies and have an ice cream is one of her favourites.
My aunt has improved in many ways and her wonderful sense of humour has returned, even though her memory hasn’t.
I have found the staff supportive of me too and can rest easy now. It’s a huge relief!

Westlands Care Home looked after my lovely mum, they are just amazing, the care and love they give to all residents are just amazing. The rooms are lovely and the food was fab. The manager and staff are just wonderful. I would highly recommend.

My mother's visit was a respite stay to allow scheduled building works to take place at home. We were able to book the necessary dates and when we needed extra time we easily extended her stay from two weeks to three.
Westlands is small and easy to get to know. South-facing with super views over the
Teign estuary. Generous sunny terrace and small level garden. My mother often commented that the staff are cheerful and kind, the food is good, and there is some kind of activity every afternoon. The owner plays a direct role and has a lot of contact with staff and residents, managing some activities himself.
We had good communications prior to and during Mum's stay. I felt sure she was safe, cared for and treated as an individual.

Living up country and with Covid 19 restrictions, Westlands Care Home was chosen for my sister on location, local reputation and most importantly the CQC Report. The owner and manager are excellent. They lead a team of extremely caring staff. They provide the 24 hour care and supervision that could
not be provided at home. They provide a phenomenal stimulating service making Westlands the substitute home one hopes for. My sister has Dementia and one of the features of this cruel disease is the effect it has on reasoning, personality and behaviour. Unfortunately, from being a lady with impeccable manners, she developed a loss of inhibition which affected her manner towards the staff and other residents. This was totally unacceptable as she was disrupting the atmosphere of the home. Westlands does not have a locked door policy and despite the good security, my sister found ways to leave the building with the staff in hot pursuit. Sadly she is now in a secure unit but closer to family.

What a fabulous home! My grandmother moved in the home over a bank holiday weekend and I cannot fault the home for their patience with the move being from out of the county. The owner, manager and the whole team at Westlands Care Home cannot be more professional, friendly and courteous! The birthday
celebration for the grandmother turning 99 where we could attend was amazing, she thoroughly enjoyed her cake and attention. Thank you so much to Westlands for looking after and caring for her so well.

My father was a resident with Westlands from May 2019. At that time, he was very depressed and struggling with anxiety. He’d really lost his joy of life and we were very worried about him. After a very short time at Westlands, he became a changed man - his cheeky sense of humour came back and he was
often found laughing and joking with all the wonderful staff. He was made to feel very secure and part of the Westlands “family” and this significantly reduced his anxiety. He enjoyed day trips out (when lockdown permitted) and really felt at home there. So much so that when he came to visit us, he couldn’t wait to get back to Westlands. He always raved about the quality and taste of the food and how lovely all the staff were. We were thrilled that, over time, they got Dad enjoying crosswords, scrabble and crafting and I have some wonderful photos of a very happy Dad during his time with Westlands. We couldn’t have asked for more and we’ll be forever grateful for all they did for Dad.

We visited Westlands and discussed our issues of trying to find a new home for our elderly mother, who had recently lost her husband and suffered from dementia. The staff were extremely helpful in understanding our concerns and provided a high level of confidence. Over the next few months, we exchanged
further communications which led to my Mother taking a respite trial and then becoming a full resident for over two years. During this time, the Westlands team provided a very professional and caring service. Medication was reviewed regularly, with consultation with doctors and the amount of medication was able to be reduced drastically. The weekly afternoon activities provided regular social interaction and enjoyment. Dietary and favourite foods were accommodated regularly and provided regardless of the time of day. The very friendly, cheerful and helpful staff provided a very comfortable environment for my mother and took away our concerns. Thank you to all of the Westlands team.

My mother was a resident at Westlands from November 2018 until February 2021, when Mum sadly passed away. At all times, I found Mum's care excellent. At the time of Mum's death, she could not have had better care and attention and I would like to say a big thank you to all the staff involved in Mum's
care as it was second to none. Even though during the pandemic, things have not been easy, I have been able to see Mum on various occasions and spoken to her regularly on the phone, for which I am extremely grateful. At all times I have been kept up to date on Mum's health and well being. I would not hesitate in recommending Westlands to anyone. Again a big thank you to everyone at Westlands, who are all excellent.

I have known Westlands for some years both under the previous owner and the current one.
I run a singing group in the village across the river, and we have sung at Westlands' Christmas party every year until prevented by COVID-19. We have also gone over to sing in the summer. I was so impressed by
the warmth of reception there and the recommendations from friends who had relatives living there, that we moved my mother in after my father died. My mother lived there for 3 years, passing in 2018. I have been back to visit the staff and a few residents who I got to know since.

Since the day our Mum was admitted to Westlands, we have been delighted with everything that has been provided. She was admitted 6 years ago; the care and support she has received has been excellent. All the staff are friendly, caring and sincere with the other residents and family members. Standards
of care, cleanliness, food, rooms etc, are outstanding. The staff are simply wonderful – knowledgeable and professional, who have forged strong relationships with our mum, who quite simply love her – watching her face light up as a member of staff attends to her, gives us so much comfort, knowing they have her trust as they look after her needs.

With reference to any sections dealing with the interior of Westlands, due to the pandemic, my comments are confined to the period December 2019 to March 2020. Since then the interior has been refurbished and there have been some staff changes. My mother quickly settled into Westland's homely atmosphere.
We are welcomed at any time by friendly, cheerful staff. My mother is being extremely well cared for and her family kept up to date on any issues she might have. All questions and concerns are promptly answered and properly dealt with. When medical attention is needed this is promptly sourced; staff have taken her to appointments. She enjoys the food, her likes are catered for including the icecreams she enjoys on group outings which she also enjoys. Staff are very good at getting a 99-year-old lady into the home's transport. They have been, and are, working extremely hard at communications, including the internet, between my mother and her four children during this stressful time.

When it became clear my mother needed more help and care for her needs, my sister and I had to make the difficult decision to place her in a more, safer environment. We tried 2 previous care homes where she was not happy and settled. A previous carer that was visiting my mother at home suggested Westlands.
My sister and I went to visit the care home and were extremely impressed with the staff, cleanliness and ambience of the home. We felt comfortable to place mum into Westlands. We were allowed to visit at any time and always found mum clean, well dressed and comfortable. The staff are amazing, and the care is second to none. Since my mother has been in Westlands, she has been happy and settled. My sister and I are more relaxed now knowing she is being looked after so well. During the pandemic, we have been kept up to date with emails, video calls, photographs and WhatsApp. We would definitely recommend Westlands to anybody who has to make the same difficult decision we had to.

My mother has been a resident at Westlands. She was very happy there, and in particular, she felt secure and safe as she was becoming more infirm. She could not have been in better hands in the time leading up to her death. I witnessed professional care and friendship. She was treated with dignity,
kindness, respect and humanity. This afforded family members certain peace of mind, and we are grateful.

My mother, who suffered from Parkinson's disease, was looked after as a resident at Westlands for several years.
Throughout that time, I can honestly say I never had the slightest doubt that we had chosen the best home, and the best level of care possible for Mum. The staff gave Mum a personalised
care plan full of warmth and affection, and there were many occasions where we saw staff going out of their way to be helpful, friendly and caring even when, towards the end of her stay, Mum was confined to her bed and needed special care.
The building is spacious, and well equipped, with an outdoor terrace for those that are mobile.
If you are looking for a care home of the highest quality, and a happy and safe environment for your loved one ... you have found it!

My Mother sadly passed away on 16 October 2016 at Westlands Retirement Home, Teignmouth.


I would like to say a big thank you to all the Staff at Westlands for the wonderful care they gave Mum during her stay there. This is an excellent Home, where each resident is treated as an individual and where

personal needs are catered for in a safe and caring environment by an excellent group of Carers and a highly respected Manager. Personal dignity is respected at all times and family atmosphere is always encouraged with family member always made welcome.

Alison Govier joined Westlands as Manager in June 2020 bringing with her 15 years experience in care including 6 years in a hospital setting and 9 years in two very successful care homes in the region. Alison's qualifications include Level 4 Diploma in Health and Social Care, Level 3 Diploma in Clinical Healthcare as well as being a fully trained Phlebotomist.
