Grassington House is a 13-bed, spacious semi-detached townhouse in Dorchester established as a care home in the mid-1980s.

All meals are cooked within the home. There is an extensive menu and the team can cater for all, the menu choices are led by residents through regular feedback of what they would like.

The home has a variety of activities including trips out into town (as it's a short level walk from the town centre) and trips on the minibus around the countryside.

Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5
Grassington House is a wonderful example of how a care-home can provide a well organised and professional service within a family atmosphere. The staff really care about the health and comfort of their residents and work very hard to ensure a stimulating programme. Continually engaging with people in
their twilight years, is a very challenging and exhausting process but the staff at Grassington House manage to do it with tremendous good humour. A variety of trips as well as fund-raising activities for a host of good causes is well illustrated in the gallery of photographs on display in the care home. Accepting someone as precious as your dad needs more care and support than you are capable of providing and then finding a place that you feel you can trust to provide all the care and support you want for them is so difficult. In Grassington House, our family genuinely feels we have found a place where they can do just that.

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.6 (9.588) out of 10 for Grassington House is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 5.0 out of 5 from 7 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.6 out of 5 from 7 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.988 for Grassington House is calculated as follows: ( (82 Excellents x 5) + (1 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 83 Ratings = 4.988
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.6 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Grassington House is based on 7 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 = 3.6
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 13 registered maximum number of service users is 2.6, which has been reached with 7 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Hey everyone! I’m Meg!

I’m the Managing Director and Co-owner of Grassington House Care Home, which I run alongside my lovely husband, Marc. Around the home, you’ll usually find me doing a bit of everything — from answering emails and tending to the garden, to jumping in the driver’s seat of the minibus for our next adventure, and of course, quality-testing our daily fresh bakes(someone has to make sure they’re safe!).

Outside of the home, I’m a very proud mum of three and nana to one, with another little arrival joining us soon. I love nothing more than spending time with family and friends or heading out on long country walks with my lively, lovable lab, Bee.

I’ve worked in the care sector since leaving school and hold qualifications in Health & Social Care. From 2013 to 2022, I was the Registered Manager here, so Grassington House truly feels like a second home to me.

I truly believe that great care is about kindness, dignity, and creating a place where people feel safe, valued, and genuinely at home — and that’s the heart of everything we do here at Grassington House.

Hey, I’m Louise!

I’m the proud Registered Manager here at Grassington House Care Home. I’m in the home daily, making sure the team feel supported and everything’s running smoothly — but you’ll most likely find me having a cheeky coffee, whether that’s in the conservatory or sitting in a resident’s room, putting the world to rights!

I’ve worked in healthcare for over 25 years now (which makes me feel old saying it out loud), and 14 of those years have been in elderly care, which is absolutely where my heart lies. I joined the Grassington family in 2022, and honestly, it’s the most unique and special place I’ve ever worked. The team here are amazing and truly cares about what they do.

When I’m not at work, I’m usually spending time with my family, planning my next trip away or being bossed around by my several very spoilt cats!

I’m passionate about creating a warm, supportive environment where residents feel respected, listened to, and truly cared for — and I’m proud to be part of a team that lives those values every single day.
