Overall Experience

Over several visits, I have always found my brother-in-law well cared for. HE is always in good spirits. I find the staff to be attentive to all his needs, often dealing with sometimes complex issues, in a very professional manner. They go to great lengths to a lay any concerns that I may have. I feel that nothing is too much bother. They show patience and understanding. I am so grateful to all the staff who work together to make his life comfortable and healthy as possible.

My brother has been at Karam Court for approximately one year now. During the whole of this time I have received nothing but reassurance and appropriate advice and understanding from staff. I have been overwhelmed by the knowledge and care given by staff, who have always responded promptly to any questions / points I raise. My brother has benefited so much from being at Karam Court, and I thank the staff for their hard work and commitment.

My sister has been a resident of Karam Care Home for over 4 years. In that time I have observed first hand the level of care and attention that she has received from the entire team. The staff are excellent and have provided faultless care. They are very friendly and approachable and have always willingly assisted with any queries on concerns I have had regarding my sisters health. The management team lead extremely well and have assisted me every step of the way in navigating through paperwork and care plans. The care home is very homely and kept to the highest level of cleanliness. I have always felt my sister is being looked after well in the best possible hands. For all you do - and the kind thoughtful way you do it - thank you!

Kind and caring staff, always made sure Dad's needs were met. Well-prepared meals and snacks throughout the day. The home was always willing to help out with family's special occasions. When my Dad needed medical help, it was always seen to. Lovely home and staff, would thoroughly recommend Karam Court to others.

Dad lived at Karam Court for 5 years. It was clear that he was provided with a happy, safe and caring environment to live in throughout his time there. When Dad's health deteriorated, the staff adapted and responded to his additional needs appropriately. GP and palliative care team were consulted and an end-of-life pathway put in place; the staff provided meticulous 2-hour care as he deteriorated. In addition, the consideration towards us as a family went above and beyond our expectations. I have worked in NHS for 42 years and have never witnessed such excellent end-of-life care. I do not know how to put into words the gratitude my family and I feel for the care Dad received throughout his five years at Karam Court. All the staff deserve a commendation for having such a wonderful caring and supportive work ethic. Thank you to all at Karam Court who looked after Dad and provided such fantastic care.

My dad had been a resident at Karam Court for a number of years - always treated with dignity, respect and kindness. Towards dad's last days, we were lost as to what to do for him, to make him as comfortable as possible. The care home seniors stepped in immediately and assisted us in arranging palliative care for dad. He was assessed at the care home, with us present and this was a great relief to us. His care continued in the care home with palliative nurse support. Dad's final days were addressed with dignity, genuine care and gentleness and every thought was given to him and to the family at all times. Dad slipped away peacefully in an environment he had known and enjoyed - he never once asked to leave. The support of the carers was outstanding and they felt the loss of dad as keenly as we did. We couldn't have asked for more, we will be forever grateful for how you looked after our dad, at all times. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts - dad would say the same too.

My brother came to live at Karam Court in 2018. He was a confused man. He's been in hospital a couple of times and was living alone in a flat. He was finally diagnosed with Vascular Dementia and Frontotemporal Dementia. I find the staff who visited him to be knowledgeable and friendly. They had a place for him. They had identified a man who would friend him. My brother settled in really quickly. They were kind and patient with him. They have unreservedly helped with problems. It was a great choice of home for him.

Overall Experience
My nan was a resident at this care home until she passed away recently.
During her stay, staff were overheard shouting at patients and being quite forceful.
My nan expressed her complaints about how the staff both treated her/spoke to her and how she felt undignified there.

Following her passing, her daughter attended to collect her belongings. This was one day after she had passed and the staff had packed away her belongings into black bags without family consent. This was something her family wanted to do and it was extremely inconsiderate considering the time frame after her passing.

Reply from Nicola Hope, Manager at Karam Court Care Home

I cannot speak highly enough of the care that was provided for my mother and father. The home itself is modern and well laid out and feels very secure and extremely well managed, and the care staff are second to none who are very dedicated and go beyond what is expected of them. I am extremely grateful to Karam Court and feel blessed that Mom and Dad were so well cared for.

My dad has been at Karam Court now for 15 months. He is energetic on the whole and needs plenty of space to walk, night or day and needs people to engage with him. Myself and my family are extremely grateful to everyone at Karam Court for the way they care for dad. The food is wonderful - he always has second helpings! He is clean and tidy, his clothes are cleaned, ironed and returned in no time at all, but most importantly, often when I visit I find him chatting and laughing with the carers or doing paperwork with them as he used to when he was at work - he is happy. During the good weather, he will potter around the garden. They take the time and the trouble to think of new ways of engaging him as his dementia changes and report back to the family when we visit each day. As dad's condition moves on, we know that we have a full team working with us to care for him and that is priceless.

Overall Experience

My Dad went into Karam Court just before Christmas 2017, having shown "challenging" behaviour (due to his dementia) at two previous establishments. The change in his attitude and behaviour was almost instant, thanks entirely to the wonderful staff at Karam Court. He relished being given small tasks to do as he felt useful again.

Dad was always clean and well-dressed when I visited, and I could tell that he felt comfortable and safe there.

The staff seemed to know instinctively how to treat Dad so that he did not feel threatened or challenged in any way, and it was obvious that he felt happy and well looked-after.

My thanks go out to all the staff, they are a credit to their profession.
