Not being familiar with the care system until my mother was really incapacitated and required nursing care from hospital I was upset anxious and didn't know what to expect. However my thoughts were put at ease here at West Haven. Not only did she receive excellent care and dignity, but they became my
family in there I cannot express my gratitude enough. They looked after me.

The Rivers

from Sharron R (Daughter of Resident) published on 12 September 2025
Submitted via Website • Report
Overall Experience 4.0 out of 5
The kindness & compassion shown to Mum & us as her family is evident & is much appreciated, the team are excellent from this perspective.
It is very difficult to leave Mum at the home after we have taken her out, it is distressing for her & us. The team members totally understand this & distract
Mum with offers of tea, a biscuit & a chat as appropriate.
Attention to detail could be improved, as I am sure it can in many residential homes. Personal examples are: no toilet roll in the residents private toilet, missing top sheet at 8.45pm at night with only a fluffy blanket to cover Mum up & jugs of juice being given to Mum despite her notes stating water only.
I hope that these small, yet important occurrences will not happen again now that the new Manager is onboard. All new, current & agency staff need to regularly read the residents notes, it is imperative.
Good & prompt communication with two members of staff on email.
Good link to local medical support.
Thank you for caring.

I am both pleased and grateful for the dedicated care the staff have shown to my father. His needs are many and the support we have been shown is kind and compassionate. There has been a good and immediate response to any queries and when dad needs medical attention the staff recognise this and act
accordingly. They have made a difficult transition a great deal easier.

The staff at Westy Hall are amazing. They work so hard and make sure the residents are safe, happy and comfortable. They always make me feel welcome when visiting and I trust them completely to look after my mum and do what is best for her. It isn't one of the brand new homes that look like 5 star hotels
but it is definitely a very caring home to consider for your loved one.
Highly recommended

Thank you for your caring words, as you know as soon as you come in you all become part of the extended family, we will always have our residents care at the heart of everything we do and never become complacent as we know there is always room for improvements, kind words and feedback is very much important to us all and i will make sure the team know how you feel, it makes our jobs worthwhile when we know we are on the correct tracks

I couldn't praise the staff enough. They all do their jobs with respect and real care. Could anyone explain where the fees go? I wash his clothes, shower and shave him. Management doesn't appreciate, value or support the staff, why? The entertainment manager is the kind of manager we all need at Parklands.
Any chance of getting a more empathetic and supportive management?

Westy Hall

The team are fantastic. The level of care is excellent, and the staff go above and beyond. My relative moved into Westy Hall in April 2025 and I cannot believe how well he has settled and how at home he feels. He is thriving and that is because of the environment that the care team create.
I think
the home would benefit from some investment in the outdoor spaces/garden and front entrance. Also, a more efficient signing in system would help both those visiting residents and the staff. It feels like visitors are taking staff away from their work by asking them to open doors and sometimes they cannot always be there to let people in and out.
These recommendations/suggestions should not detract away from the main point, which is that the care is second to none at Westy and the atmosphere created is that everyone is welcome and loved. In just a few short months, there have been celebrations, days out, llama visits, games nights and pamper days, not to mention lots of birthday cakes. Wonderful care team making tough days much better, Westy Hall is really a special place.
Reply from Katya Lyon, Home manager at Westy Hall

Thank you so much for your review, it means a lot when we get feedback (even if not good as we want to always improve) each residents family become part of the Westy hall expanded family, I take on board your comments around booking in and out of the home, unfortunately visitors have to be reliant on staff as we have to ensure our vulnerable residents are kept safe and not let out accidently by anyone visiting the home. Remember we operate an open door policy at Westy and any comments are greatly appreciated and ideas and concerns received positively and we will endeavour to act on them. Its nice to know your relative has really settled, to be honest it feels like he has been here forever with us :-) .

Mowbray Nursing Home

Unfortunately Dad was nearing the end of his life and needed nursing care. We knew his stay in Mowbray Nursing Home would be relatively short; you do question the decision and there were moments of doubt. However, we need not have worried. From the moment of arrival were met with kindness, compassion
and an understanding of our emotional needs. I simply cannot praise the staff highly enough. The environment was excellent and the room chosen for Dad was perfect. Being able to come and go as we pleased was such a positive, as well as knowing assistance was always close by. Nothing was too much trouble. I was very impressed by all the nursing staff. We continually had updates throughout Dad's time there. It's clear to me that a dedicated cohesive team exists at Mowbray. Special thanks to one staff member in particular, as she really put us all at ease and ensured Dad was well cared for. I will be eternally grateful for how she managed Dad's end of life and her compassion shown at the end. I will never forget her.
Reply from Julie Barraclough, Manager at Mowbray Nursing Home

Thank you so very much; Your words and praise means so much to all of the staff here at Mowbray; it is never easy to face the final stages of life and nothing prepares you for this difficult journey. It was our pleasure to care for your wonderful father and we are always here if you wish to visit us I will pass on your special thanks.Love to you and the familyRegards

Eagle View Care Home

My mum moved into Eagle View Care Home in June 2025 and probably like most families it was difficult time. The staff have been kind, helpful and professional. They have helped my mother settle in. She has commented that the food is "very good" and she has put on 2 kg in weight which was badly needed
after her hospital stay. Eagle View is a modern facility and therefore its facilities are good, it is clean and visiting is a positive experience. My mother is a sociable person and I have noticed her mood has improved being in a positive environment and the home has organised trips out. No-one wants to place a relative in a care home but when it becomes essential to protect their wellbeing I think Eagle View is a good option.

Thank you so much for taking the time to share your experience. We understand how difficult the transition into care can be for both residents and their families, and we're truly grateful for your trust in us during such an important time. It's heartening to hear that your mum is settling in well, enjoying the food, and even gaining some much-needed weight after her hospital stay. Our team will be especially pleased to know their kindness and professionalism have made a difference. We're also glad that your mum is benefiting from the social environment and activities - it's so important to us that our residents not only feel safe and cared for but also happy and engaged.Thank you again for your thoughtful words and for recognising the work of the team here at Eagle View. Level of care and kindness at The Laurels is excellent.
Could not ask anything more of all staff. They are brilliant. Kind, caring and fun as well as professional.
Everything has been considered for the level of support, happiness and wellbeing of my dad.
Managers and staff have welcomed my dad and
visiting family on every occasion. Supportive and helpful in all situations.
Following a recent admission to Hospital, the manager and one staff member in particular and all staff have been caring, supportive and very proactive on ensuring my dad's health and wellbeing were a priority and supported us a family to make a prompt return home possible.
Would not hesitate to recommend The Laurels to others in need of care.

Great staff. Great management.
I sence that the residents feel safe and well looked after at Elm House. I also have a sence if a little community between residents and carers.
The home is a little dated, but overall it is the care delivered that
really matters. Warm hearted. Thank you for the care you give to my uncle.

Excellent care. Staff friendly and helpful to the family as well as the resident. Relative is clean and tidy and the staff have done well getting her to leave her room for meals and the communal room. Meals smell delicious! Premises are spotlessly clean. Management and admin also lovely. Very happy.

My Dad's been living at the Grange for over 2 years now. He has mild dementia, and I'm sure if I were to tell him how long he's been a resident he'd struggle to believe me. That's partly because after an initial settling in period, he's been completely contented there. He likes the staff, and they
seem to like him too - they certainly always treat him with respect and kindness. We visit often, and that helps to maintain a good rapport with the team and keeps us up to date with how he's doing. We're always welcome, and invariably impressed by the standard of care and the variety of activities provided to engage residents and keep them as active as possible. I really hope Dad will be able to see his days out in the comfort and security of this well-managed home.
