After ten days in hospital, mum was discharged to Amberley House for end of life care. Mum was only there for 8 days before she passed away. During what was an horrendous time for our family, it was such a relief to see mum so well cared for. Amberley house was clean, friendly and the staff were wonderful.
Each one showed my mum and us care and dignity. It was a great comfort to know that she'd been well looked after for this short and last part of her life. A big thank you to all who work so hard to look after our loved ones.
Reply from Sharon Gerrans, Manager at Amberley House Nursing HomeThank you so much for taking the time to share such kind and heartfelt feedback about your mum's time with us at Amberley House. We are truly honoured that you entrusted us with her care during such a difficult and emotional period for your family. Our team takes great pride in providing compassionate, dignified, and person-centred end-of-life care, and it means a great deal to know that you felt supported and reassured during your mum's final days. Your words will be shared with our staff, who will find real comfort in knowing their care made a positive difference to both your mum and your family.
On behalf of everyone at Amberley House, please accept our sincere condolences. Thank you again for your thoughtful review and for allowing us to be part of your mum's care

My mum moved into Amberley House on 15th May 2025. Since moving here, mum has settled well. I am very impressed with the way the service is run. The care and support Mum has is first class. The home is spotless. There is a menu up on the wall, so I can see what she is having on that day. Staff are very
accommodating and welcoming. They have many activities, which mum likes, especially shopping. I couldn't wish for anything more for her, and I am truly happy in the service she has.
Reply from Sharon Gerrans, Manager at Amberley House Nursing HomeThank you so much for your lovely review. I'm really pleased to hear how well your mum has settled since moving to Amberley House. It means a lot to the whole team to know that you're happy with the care, support and warmth she receives, and that she enjoys the activities - especially the shopping trips!
We take great pride in keeping the home clean, welcoming and safe, and it's wonderful to hear this has made a difference for your mum.
Thank you again for your kind words and for placing your trust in us.

Mum was moved from another care home in Liskeard at the request of ASC due to finance. The move has gone extremely well. Mum has settled very well, staff have been excellent with Mum. Lots of activities going on. Mum has been out of her room every day and mixing with other residents, which has helped
her settle in well. I have found Mum more expressive and more able to hold a conversation, which was not so good before. We as a family are really pleased with Mum's care.

My husband had booked 2 weeks of respite care, but on his discharge from hospital on 8th September, he was terminally ill, we were reassured that the room was his as long as we needed - it was almost 7 weeks. The managers and all staff were professional, attentive, good company, with the skills necessary
for his care.
The palliative/end-of-life care was excellent, with appropriate medication. The freedom of visiting enabled friends and family to spend valuable time with him. His only criticisms were "thin toilet paper" and sometimes being missed by the tea/coffee trolley. There was great care and dignity when he died.
Reply from Sharon Gerrans, Manager at Amberley House Nursing HomeThank you for taking the time to share your experience of your husband's stay at Amberley House. We are truly grateful for your kind words about the support and compassion shown by our team during such a difficult period. It means a great deal to us to know that he was comfortable, well cared for, and able to spend valuable time with family and friends.
We also appreciate you highlighting the small concerns regarding the toilet paper and occasional missed refreshments. Your feedback helps us continue to improve, and we will ensure this is followed up with the team.
Thank you again for entrusting us with his care. We send our warmest wishes to you and your family

The staff at Hillcrest were extremely helpful and thoughtful throughout. My step-dad's brief visit. They healed him extremely well in quite difficult circumstances.
In particular, Dom's - dealt with his passing in a kind and thoughtful manner and made the experience more manageable.
Thanks all!

The guest rooms are ok, not overly warm. The bathroom door needs replacing, a bit tired and worn. Also should be more than 1 shower rooms - times limited for guests to be showered. My mum only given 1 shower in 13 days, having requested more.
Food never very hot.
More activities to include going
off site occasionally.
High standard of cleanliness.
Staff are considerate of all residents and show real care.
Reply from Paula Haynes-Parry, Home Manager at Hillcrest House LtdDear Elizabeth
Thank you for taking the time to respond. We are working hard to improve the facilities at Hillcrest House and the rooms are being redecorated. We do have 2 wet rooms per floor and there is not a limit on the number of wet room showers that are provided by the staff so I'm sorry to hear that your Mum was not offered one every day, I will speak to the staff about this. We are always looking for ways to improve the service so all of your comments will help. We have a new catering company at Hillcrest House who provide the food directly from our kitchen, I will feedback on the food to them as like us there is always room for improvement.
I'm happy to see that your Mum was treated with dignity and felt safe and secure, this is really important to us.

I am happy that my wife has lived in Hillcrest House for over 4 years, as she is well looked after. Care is given consistently and with genuine affection. There appears to be little turnover of staff, and the carers know the residents well, although sometimes information is not passed over from shift
to shift. I am always amazed at how the carers cope in the advanced dementia unit, displaying seemingly endless reserves of patience. The physical fabric of the home is slowly improving, but Trevena upstairs needs new windows. More staff dedicated to activities would help.
Reply from Paula Haynes-Parry, Home Manager at Hillcrest House LtdHi John
Thanks so much for taking the time to complete the review, we value your honesty, the home is definitely improving as far as decor is concerned and we will look again at the activities provision on the female dementia unit. The staff are very dedicated to their role and are very patient so thank you for acknowledging that.

Everyone at the care home is extremely professional. Staff and management were very accessable and always gave time to talk you and keep you updated. Staff encouraged Dad to attend activities in such a way that he was delighted to tell us all the new things he had been trying. Everyone did everything
they could to address things Dad wanted to make him feel really cared for and considered. The atmosphere created here is more like a large family, each Staff member going above and beyond.
I would say to any relative who is hesitant about there family member going into a carehome that Amberley will take all your worries away and leave you with irreplaceable memories.
Reply from Sharon Gerrans, Manager at Amberley House Nursing HomeThank you so much for your wonderful feedback. We are truly touched by your kind words about Amberley House and our team. It means a great deal to us to know that your dad felt cared for, valued, and supported, and that he enjoyed trying new activities and experiences during his time with us.
At Amberley House, we strive to create exactly the atmosphere you described - a warm, family-like environment where every resident is treated as an individual and every family feels reassured and included. Knowing that we helped ease your worries and made a positive difference to your dad's wellbeing is the greatest reward we could hope for.
Thank you again for taking the time to share your experience. Your message will be shared with all our staff, who will be so proud to know that their dedication and kindness have meant so much to you and your family.

My father was a recent resident at Hillcrest for approx 9 months, and the care & kindness he was shown in his final days was incredible. Each time I visited, I was always given a warm welcome, and then some much needed support towards the end of his time. Every single member of staff is fantastic, there
arent enough words to describe how amazing they all are. The food is great, and you can add touches from home to the rooms so Dad felt more settled. Dad was treated with dignity and compassion, and it's something I will forever be grateful for. Thank you all so much.

I would like all the staff to know how much we as a family valued the care my father received in the last few months of his life in the Trevenna Unit of Hillcrest House LTD.

On our visits there was always a friendly member of staff to discuss Dad's health. We were all kept well informed. Everyone

was very kind, patient and professional. Dad was very well looked after, with individual personal care and friendly words. Our mother was also welcomed each day on her visits, being given cups of tea and chats and even lunch. Dad had a lovely room where family photos were displayed on the walls, his own blankets, cushions and accessories were accommodated giving a homely touch.

Thank you.

This review is hard to write as my Mum only passed away on 17th October 2024 but the care/compassion/dignity she received from everyone at Hillcrest certainly made her passing slightly less painful.
Every step of the way everything was explained as to what they were doing.
My mum looked so comfortable
and at peace with nothing ever being too much trouble.
They promised they would look after her/make her comfortable and never be in pain and that is what everyone did.
Everyone there made us as a family feel at ease and welcomed from the cups of tea and friendly faces.
