The Review Score of 6.3 (maximum of 10) for Rydal Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 3.1 out of 5 from 1 positive Reviews in the last 12 months.
a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating of all Reviews over all time. For each review the Care Home / service is rated Excellent, Good, Satisfactory, Poor or Very Poor on a number of areas eg Staff, Management etc. The Care Home receives points for each rating as follows: Excellent = 5. Good = 4. Satisfactory = 3. Poor = 2. Very Poor = 1. These points are added up and then divided by the total number of completed ratings to generate the average rating.
The Average Rating of 3.257 for Rydal Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (11 Excellents x 5) + (11 Goods x 4) + (1 Satisfactorys x 3) + (12 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 35 Ratings = 3.257
b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 12 months. If there are no Positive Reviews in the last 12 months, then 2.5 points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 2 years. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with 'Extremely Likely' or 'Likely' in answer to the question 'How likely are you to recommend this Care Home to friends and family if they needed similar care or treatment?'
The 5 points available are broken down as follows:
4 points are available for the first 5 Positive Reviews, 3 points for the first Positive Review and then 0.25 Points for each of the next 4 Positive Reviews.
1 point is available for reaching a target number of Positive Reviews based on 20% of the number of registered maximum number of service users. If the target is partially reached then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home with 50 registered maximum number of service users has a target of 10 Positive Reviews, if it has 10 or more Positive Reviews it will receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews will receive 0.7 points.
If there are no Positive Reviews in the last 12 months, then 2.5 points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 2 years. The calculation is the same as above, except the points are divided by 2.
The 3.083 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Rydal Care Home is based on 1 positive Reviews in the last 12 months and is calculated as follows:
3 = 3
Target of 12 positive Reviews (60 registered maximum number of service users ÷ 5). 1 Reviews ÷ 12 Target = 0.083

Review submitted from a Postal Card by Patricia B (Wife of Resident) on Monday 30 April 2018. Relates to April 2018.
My husband was in the home from September 2016 until he died 5th April 2018. He could walk when he went in and something happened in Sept 2017 when I found him in agony in bed and he never walked again. I don't know what happened? He was hoisted everywhere. Left wet for hours in a wheelchair. The food was rubbish. At the end, he refused to eat and drink. I used to take in yoghurts, coffee, orange juice and bottled water. I provided all of his bedding. Towels, toiletries, new clothes when his disappeared. They were always short staffed. His medication was given spasmodically.

The staff are kind and patient. My aunt is often taken out by staff either on a visit somewhere or just to the local supermarket. There has been a problem with laundry but after speaking to the manager I am confident they are solving the problem. They are also about to decorate her room with her choice of colour. When living some distance from the care home it is very important that I feel I can rely on the staff to look after my aunt and they are all doing a great job.

Review submitted from a Website Submission by Louise S (Daughter of Resident) on Wednesday 15 March 2017. Relates to March 2017.
We were allowed to put some of Dads clothing and personal items in his room before he moved in so that his room was ready for him which made the moving in day easier and gave us peace of mind. Dad was welcomed at the door by the manager which was lovely. Every effort has been made to help him settle. The nursing staff are exceptional and obviously very experienced. I have been delighted and somewhat moved by the fact that every member of staff I have come into contact has obviously read my Dads care plan. They are truly committed to treating Dad as an individual, understanding "the man", which is then giving them a true insight to his needs. The carers and domestic staff have all made us welcome and seem to care about us all as a family. The staff seem passionate and excited about investment being made into the home and changes being made. They have an obvious pride in the home and care they provide. Everyone seems to work as a cohesive team and good communication is apparent.
