I have always found the management team and staff to be open, transparent, warm and friendly. On my visits, I witness the amazing care the team consistently provide, and can see Dad is settled and looked after well. There is always lots of laughter, and everyone is engaged with. I am consistently updated
on Dad's health and well-being. It is a weight off my shoulders knowing that Dad is safe and happy. I can't thank Penny, Emily and their team for the amazing work they do.
Reply from Penelope Cottrill, Manager at Waterside Care CentreThank you so much for your lovely words. Reading your review means a great deal to all of us. Knowing that your dad is happy, settled, and well cared for gives us such pride. We understand how difficult it can be to place a loved one in someone else's care, so it means the world to know that you feel reassured and supported by our team. We truly believe that every resident should feel safe, valued, and loved, and we're so pleased that you see this in the care your dad receives. The laughter, smiles, and special moments shared each day are what make our home such a wonderful place to be. Thank you for recognising Penny, Emily, and the whole team. They are passionate about what they do, and your kind words will mean so much to them. It is a privilege to care for your dad and to be part of his journey. Thank you for placing your trust in us

Looking after residents with dementia is a demanding role but all of the staff are exceptionally caring and helpful. They always seem to have a positive attitude and nothing is too much trouble.
Waterside has a very calm, relaxed atmosphere which allows residents to move around freely.
The catering
team provide food to an excellent standard and accommodate special diets.
All staff are involved in the varied activities and families are encouraged to attend and join in.
We can highly recommend this home for residential dementia care.

Over the past 2 years, I have noticed that while there have been staff changes, there is a core staff who seem more permanent. I feel that this is good for long-term residents and also suggests a good level of job satisfaction and satisfaction with the management and working conditions.

We made the right choice after my father was in a previous care home, which could not cope with him; we found Waterside, thank goodness. We should of bought him here first. Lovely staff, so patient and genuinly very compassionate and caring. Never seen anyone lose patience with the residents. Kept clean
and tidy all areas and personal bedrooms.

My husband was cared for two months, he was so well looked after with such kindness and dignity. he always looked smart and well shaved his clothes always changed, the staff were always in there tending to his needs. He never asked to come home which is so comforting to us as a family. The end was rather
sooner than was thought but the care was amazing both to him and to us as a family.
The home, was very well staffed and the communications with staff were excellent nothing was too much trouble.
Lots of facilities there for residents.

The home is well run and staff training good. The staffing levels are good and the staff appear to be hard working and to cope well with the needs of all the residents who are all suffering from Dementia.
Plenty of activities are provided. The standards of cleanliness is high. Over Christmas and New
Year, there was the opportunity for relatives to join in the activities - Christmas party, Christmas, Boxing day and New Years Day lunch.

My husband was cared for from 20 July 2023 to 4 July 2024 when he died. I cannot praise the staff enough; they were all, without exception, gentle, kind, considerate and so very caring towards him. Staff members kept us informed of any GP or hospital visits he required and of changes in dietary regimes.
The communication via staff from the home was excellent and I wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone who may be considering placing a loved one into residential care.

My husband moved into Waterside Care Home in January 2024. He had been in another care home for four and a half years but his dementia had worsened to the stage where they could no longer look after him. Waterside has proved to be an excellent choice for him. The staff are caring and attentive and he
is always well-presented whenever I visit. He settled down very quickly, is always calm, and enjoys the food that is provided. The staff are very considerate towards me and keep me informed about everything that I need to know. I am very grateful to all of them and can highly recommend Waterside.

My nan has been living at Waterside for the past year and I was very impressed with the care given. This was the first time I visited the home and felt very reassured by the manager that Nan had settled in well and had formed relationships with the residents. I observed my Nan doing an activity with
a member of staff and all residents looked happy and settled. I was able to leave Waterside knowing that my nan was being well looked after. I enjoy seeing their posts on their up-to-date online page. I would like to thank all the staff that work at Waterside care home for all their hard work, you all do an amazing job.

My grandad was a wonderful man who deserved the best - that was what the staff at Waterside provided. Grandad called Waterside home for nearly 7 years, staff became family and in the last week we spent with Grandad - although heartbreaking it was evident we had extended family. Grandad was always clean
and tidy, and well looked after and staff always had his best interests at heart. We've seen new staff and old staff but in the end, it was the whole team that came together.
The staff were compassionate, caring, kind, and sensitive and went out of their way to make us comfortable. (It can't of been easy as we're a big family). It wasn't just the care staff either, it was the chef, the lady who does activities, the laundry people with kind words, the handyman, the cleaners, the admin staff. All were so kind and it touched our hearts massively. We'll be in soon to see you all.
Keep up the hard work guys, real-life angels who make a huge difference.
Grandad thought the world of you.

My husband moved here in September 2023 from another home and since being here, the staff have done more for him here than anywhere else. As a result, he seems very settled, far less agitated and at times more willing to take part in social activities. The care and attention that all staff have given
him and others in my eyes outstanding and they have been so supportive to me during what was a stressful time of having to make the move here. Staff always keep me up to date with his care and already I have attended seasonal events so that I can feel a part of the Waterside family.

Current Review Score: 9.5 (9.544)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.5 (9.544) out of 10 for Waterside Care Centre is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.6 out of 5 from 16 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.9 out of 5 from 16 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.644 for Waterside Care Centre is calculated as follows: ( (127 Excellents x 5) + (55 Goods x 4) + (6 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 188 Ratings = 4.644
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.9 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Waterside Care Centre is based on 16 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 3.9
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 47 registered maximum number of service users is 9.4, which has been reached with 16 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
