Mother, who is almost 100 years old, has been nursed through COVID, pneumonia and chest infections and it's only their devotion to the residents that has pulled her through. 15/10 - just the best!

Although my husband is still to settle to be being cared for by people other than me, he is well cared for, well fed, and comfortable. The manager and staff work very hard to accommodate my husband's dementia and stubbornness. The home is probably the friendliest I've encountered.

My mum has been a resident at Briarlea for over a year now and we cannot fault the staff, care and welcome she has received. It staggers us how much effort and creativity the team put into keeping the residents and their families active. We are kept updated on health matters and spirit on a regular basis but they manage to find a balance of protecting the family from all the details, all of the time. Prior to moving Mum into the home, we found this constant flow of pressure a huge problem- Briarlea manage this so well. We would wholeheartedly recommend Briarlea, a massive thanks to two members of staff in particular and all the amazing team.

He has now been in residence for a week and our family observations are of, attentive carers, a wonderful community spirit, encouragement to participate, but respect for privacy. Coping with change at 85 years of age, I can only imagine to be anything other than challenging. The team at Briarlea are certainly helping my father make the adjustment to his new surroundings. My mum became a resident at Briarlea on 1st September 2022. The staff have been welcoming, providing kind, individualised, holistic care to my mum. The care home has a homely feel and residents can spend time in the tv room, a quiet room to read, their own rooms or in a lovely garden. There are many activities such as team bake of, copying the tv series, singing old wartime songs and excursions. It is privately owned and small, so the staff know the residents well and are very committed to them. It is excellent value for money too. The staff are happy with low staff turnover, staying for years and years. One member of staff told me they all like their manager. All reassuring to me. Such a happy home!

A lovely personal, cosy and homely family-run care home. I cannot praise the staff and the manager enough. They are excellent in everything they do. My mum is well looked after and is always clean and tidy. She loves the staff as they really care about what they do. She loves the homecooked food and going to the dining room to eat. Hello, thank you very much for your recommendation. I am rather surprised by the score of 3 on activities, as we have an extensive programme that has seen not just quizzes, foot spa's, nail painting and sing a longs but cookery club, knit n natter sessions, making passports as part of an activity to fly to Paris on Briarlea Airways (in our own sitting room) to have photos taken in Paris. We held a week-long" Bush tucker trail" with much laughter in the team events, residents and staff recorded songs such as "Amarillo" and did a video to accompany it. Joanne, or Jo for short, has been at Briarlea since 2003. In fact, Jo was the first person that Briarlea’s owners Mark & Sally employed when they first took over the business. Back then, Jo was employed as a carer & cleaner but growing with experience – becoming a valuable member of the care team, before branching out into management, firstly as care co-ordinator, the deputy manager and now care home manager.
As you might expect over her many years at Briarlea, Jo knows all our residents and the home inside out. She’s Briarlea’s biggest cheerleader – and has a real drive to make each one of the care team (herself included) the most knowledgeable, skilled carers they can be. As Briarlea’s residents deserve the best!

Lisa is Briarlea’s longest serving member of staff joining the team from leaving school – she’s been caring for residents since 1992! Over those years, we’ve all become familiar with the bright, cheery energy she brings to work each day. She’s has a wonderful, tranquil effect on the home. Lisa’s Mum, Val (now retired) also used to work at Briarlea. Lisa undertook a hairdressing course and is fully qualified, so on a Wednesday, Lisa and Val pop-in to do hair for any of our residents. But you have to book up fast - their perms are very popular.

She is one of our in-house chefs and makes all our resident's favourite meals, including home-made Shepherd’s Pie, Fish & Chips and wonderful Roasts. But it’s in the dessert department where Lisa truly comes into her own. She’s known for her birthday cakes. As whenever it’s a resident’s birthday, Lisa will treat them to a home-made cake topped with whatever ingredients they desire, recently requested were – chocolate Aero, plus Jelly Babies – you name it, she’ll make it! This cake tradition brings all of Briarlea together. For every individual who calls Briarlea home, Lisa makes sure they feel special on their big day.

Rob is our handyman here at Briarlea. Whenever our residents need a lightbulb changed, a wardrobe fixed or if we’re simply sprucing up the home – we call straight for Rob. He’s our in-house superman. He’s also got a wicked sense of humour. So when he’s not up a ladder, you’ll probably find him larking about with residents. Rob is married to Jo and as husband and wife, they make a winning duo at Briarlea. It all lends to the homely, family-vibe we like to cultivate.
