Housman Court cares for people living with dementia in a warm and welcoming environment which is a home from home.

The highly skilled team cares for residents with compassion and dedication and ensure the residents are supported to lead a better quality of life and are encouraged to remain as independent as possible.

Housman Court offers personalised residential care for older people living with dementia, as well as day and respite care.

Respite care is offered for a duration of one to six weeks, enabling carers to have some time to themselves to run errands or perhaps an opportunity to ease the transition into long term care. Potential residents are invited to spend a day - at no cost - to familiarise before a longer stay.

With regular entertainment and activities the residents receive both the physical and mental support needed to provide a stimulating and engaging environment to enhance their well-being.

Housman Court has its own pub, tea room and hairdressing salon for all residents to enjoy. Outside there are accessible and secure gardens.

Housman Court is in the heart of the town centre enabling residents to maintain close links with the community and take trips to the shops.

My parents moved in in June this year They have settled in extremely well. They were really struggling at home for a long time but within a couple of weeks they're like different people. Quality of life is 100% better than it was Now They enjoy the food the drink the activities. I also work here so
I can see the difference in them every day I am very grateful to the manager and all the staff.

Thank you very much for your review. We are aware of how hard your family worked in supporting your parents at home and the impact that this has on family life and your constant vigilance, while they remained in their own home. While we appreciate that making a decision to find long term care is a difficult one, we are delighted that you chose us to support not only your parents, but your whole family too. Your parents are a joy to take care of and we look forward to sharing many happy times ahead, where they can feel secure and content.

From the moment my mom became a resident they have helped her settle into a routine which was adapted to her individual needs. The fact that we can see her daily care recorded is greatly appreciated by myself and family as we can address any concerns if they are needed.

My mon moved into Houseman court in March 2024 and suffers form Dementia. At first we did not know how our mom would take this move which made the family very anxious. The day mom moved in, I could not believe my eyes she dropped her bag by the door and straight away joined into the activities that
were taking place in the lounge!
It took a little while for mom to settled in she was up most nights at the being, but then she started to settle in. I can see when I visit my mom now that she is very settled and she likes the carers and has lots of fun with them mostly playing them up in a fun way!
I do wish though there were more activities at the home has mom is very active and needs this interaction so she is not just sitting around all day.
There have though been some lovely residents & family events that the kitchen staff have arranged which I have attended and I have enjoyed sitting with mom having lovely tasting meals.

Reply from Tina Saunders, Manger at Housman Court

Thank you for a lovely review, what a character you mom is, always making the staff and residents laugh and keeping us on our toes !Now that the weather is getting better we have a lot of upcoming events including the much anticipated Abba garden party which I'm sure your mom will be the star of.Activity calendars are published monthly to outline what we have going on within the home, we are also open to any suggestions from residents or families so that activities can be person centred and tailored to each residents ability and needs. A clean and welcoming place, staff are friendly and helpful. While my wife has struggled to settle, I was asked on a few occasions to sit with her to calm her down, they've cared for and sorted her out and she is now starting to settle and get involved with activities.

My mom has been a resident for over 2 years as she suffers with dementia. When she was first admitted to the home the care was second to none and thanks to the staff nurturing her she came back from end of life care. However, over the last 6 months, the home has deteriorated drastically. There are never
enough carers resulting in patient neglect. There are no trips organised, few activities and if it wasn't for the kitchen staff there would be no joy for residents. We have had to make the extremely difficult decision to move Mom which is so hard for a dementia patient but we felt we were left with no choice.

Reply from Tina Saunders, Registered Manger at Housman Court

It is with dismay that the staff, residents and families at Housman have read your review, especially as so many made the effort to attend your mother's farewell tea party, to wish her well in her new placement. She will be remembered with great affection as a courteous lady, with exquisite manners. We recognise her move was family decision and recollections as to the antecedent for the move may vary. Residents greatly enjoy the social events at Housman which we record in our "Housman Chronicles". Residents enjoy looking at the plethora of event photographs and seeing themselves taking an active part in the life of their home, which is a place of security. In addition to planned theme nights, there are daily activities, weekly hairdressers, our GP service also visits weekly. Our position at the top of the High Street enables residents to regularly leave the home for shopping trips and visits to the local amenities and places of worship with their families.

My mother has recently passed away at Housman Court, after a three-year stay. The caring staff treated her as if she were a member of their own family. They looked after her every need, and could not have been more kind and helpful. I was always kept fully up to date with her daily life and could pop
in whenever I wanted to see her. Her room was clean and tidy and personalised with her own "treasures" and photos. The laundry staff was excellent and the catering was equally as good, interesting and varied meals were provided, and plenty of tea and cakes! The activities and trips out were suitable for her. I could not have been happier with the care she received and would not hesitate to recommend this home.

Housman Court Care Home has been our mum’s home for over two years. During that time we have been very happy with mum’s care in the true sense of the word. We have witnessed and received support both emotionally and practically. There have been times when a problem has arisen but there is always someone
to help solve it. The manager has recently given a lot of her time to support the family dealing with NHS bureaucracy. We would recommend Housman Court to anyone requiring somewhere for their relatives. We have seen personally a different home elsewhere so are speaking from experience.

Reply from Christine Taylor, Manager at Housman Court

Thank you so much for your kind words. It is a honour and a pleasure to be chosen to care for your loved ones, as we understand how precious they are to you. We treat all our residents as an extension of our own family. I will share this with the Housman family. Thank you again.

My Dad has been at Housman Court a short time, we are very happy with the care her is receiving. The home is welcoming and homely, it has been hard as a family seeing him in a home. Dad has never seemed distressed, all the staff are friendly and caring. Dad celebrated his 90th birthday on 4th February,
the staff made his day so special. It meant a lot to my mum thank you all so much.

Our mother had always been reluctant to go into care following fathers passing. However once she arrived at Houseman Court she seemed to settle in well and begin to enjoy her new surroundings. Sadly Moms stay was all too brief but while there the staff showed excellent care and support to her. The care
and support showed to the family following Moms passing was nothing short of exemplary. We would highly recommend Houseman Court to anyone.

My mum was reluctant to go into care, but her experience was a positive one. The staff are so caring and compassionate not only to the residents but to the family as well. My mum received end of life care there which enabled us as a family to be with her as family and be supported by the staff. I cannot
fault any aspect of their care. As we only experienced a few weeks there some respects were difficult to judge but the most important, care, excellent.

Mum has been here for 6 months and the staff have been wonderful and caring from day one. It is a very challenging job at times but they are calm, reassuring, patient, and professional. I feel she is in safe hands, well cared for and any issues they discuss and try to resolve. Members of staff from
receptionist to carers to management are open, honest, and approachable which is so important to build trust and peace of mind for me.

I find Housmans Court to provide a welcoming and homely atmosphere. My mother has a delightful room its clean and personalised with a photograph and my mother's name. I like the opportunities given to the residents to assess, hairdresser, chiropodist, eye care, GP and district nurse all facilities my
Mother has benefited from.
The Manager and Assisted Manager are both very confident, approachable and knowledgeable in the care of my mother who has dementia, this to me is so important and provides an air of reinsurance.
The seniors and care staff are kind, experienced and helpful, always willing to communicate and explain my mother's daily routines and are reassuring if Mom's not had such a good day but celebrating her good days.
Both activities coordinators are wonderful in providing such a wide range of lovely activities and always thoughtful and positive in their encouragement to take part. This included providing a beautifully 90th birthday celebration for my Mother.

Mum was admitted to Housman Court just over 12 months ago, following a decline in her health. Her dementia has progressed rapidly since her admission. Sadly, she has been declared at End of life following an infection that needed hospital admission. The staff have coped amazing well with the situation
and wanted her to return to them because she should be back at home. All of the staff have been incredibly supportive to us as a family and are wonderful with Mum. They are all kind, caring and patient, showing a real love to the residents they look after, treating them all as individuals.

I want to say a big thank you to all the team at Housman for everything that you do.

My mum has been at Houseman Court for over a year now. She has dementia and has deteriorated quite rapidly in her time at the home, which has been tough for the family. I cannot speak highly enough of the care she has received from every single carer we have seen at Houseman. They care for her like
she's their own mum. They have patience, kindness and compassion. In the summer she was admitted to hospital with a UTI and the hospital withdrew treatment and discharged her for 'end of life" care. Despite not being a nursing home, Houseman were adamant they wanted her to be sent "home" to them. She duly was, and they put the necessary support in place. She has since rallied and although still very poorly she remains at Houseman, where they have done everything to make her as comfortable as they can. We are immensely grateful to the whole team at Housman for the dignity they give Mum and the care and love they show her

Current Review Score: 8.9 (8.861)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 8.9 (8.861) out of 10 for Housman Court is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.2 out of 5 from 8 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.7 out of 5 from 7 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.161 for Housman Court is calculated as follows: ( (49 Excellents x 5) + (30 Goods x 4) + (4 Satisfactorys x 3) + (10 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 93 Ratings = 4.161

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 4.7 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Housman Court is based on 7 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 3.7

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 30 registered maximum number of service users is 6, which has been reached with 7 Positive reviews. Points = 1

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
